“I wish I could say it gets better. It does get less painful over time. We just need to do what we have done all our life; get up, put one foot in front of the other and find something to do that day. I wish I had any words of wisdom, but I don't. I did find that trying to take care of myself helps.
This time of year is especially difficult for me and for you also.
I love to read and that helps me as it takes me away from everything for awhile.
Take care of yourself and keep in touch, please.”
“Good morning, everyone! It's even cold here in So. California. Cold for us.
The days are dwindling down to a precious few until Jason leaves on Sunday mornings. I have enjoyed our Sunday morning coffee meetings.
If I could find some place to move to, I would leave when Jason does.
Anyone found a great site to move to? this format did it for me.”
“It's so good to see you, Sim. How are you doing?”

“Hi, Not so good CA . With the passing of my Soul Mate this past summer, I am totally lost ! As you may have noticed my participation on HP has dropped to naught..
Nothing seems to matter anymore. ! Cannot imagine how you survived the loss of your loved ones. Too bad you are 3,000 miles away, we could share a brew and pine over times long gone. AUH20464 ! Ur Grandson for POTUS !!!”
“Brown has 49 more states to try and make a living. He could buy shades for California or Hawaiian shirts for Hawaii, plaid for Oregon etc., that will keep him busy. He needs to give up and find a real job!”

“Hey,...It is better than selling used cars. Hope you are well !”

“You're right and I think the guy is just plastic enough to try all of those. Your comment about "plaid for Oregon," by the way, is hilarious. I live on the Congaree River right across from downtown Columbia, SC and, when I retired, I decided I was going to reclaim a lot of my yard from the brush that, over the years, had taken it over. Hence, I spend a lot of time in old khaki shorts, old plaid shirts, and snake boots working in the brush and on the bluff that overlooks the river. My neighborhood is old and very diverse and a couple of young gals who are army nurses recently rented a house across the street. I still don't know them well---they work odd hours---but one of them is from Washington state and asked me, when I first introduced myself to them, if I was from the northwest. I told her I was from here but asked her why she thought I might be from her old stomping grounds. Her answer? The old khaki shorts, the plaid shirt, the snake boots! Too funny!”
“MacArthur wasn't fighting on all those islands. He left the Philippines and returned after the fighting was over. We will never know if or when the Japanese might have surrendered. They did plan to fight to the death.”
“It's still terribly sad, years later, to see the photos of Pearl and Hickam field.
Sadly, I remember my great uncle saying after the war the reason he was given
Command of a Navy ship, at such an early age, was because so many Commanders had been KIA. I believe he was 21.”
“I doubt the Japanese would have surrendered if we blew up a remote island. Who would see the destruction?”

“General Douglas MacArthur, Commander of US Army forces in the Pacific, stated on numerous occasions before his death that the atomic bomb was completely unnecessary from a military point of view: "My staff was unanimous in believing that Japan was on the point of collapse and surrender."
General Curtis LeMay, who had pioneered precision bombing of Germany and Japan (and who later headed the Strategic Air Command and served as Air Force chief of staff), put it most succinctly: "The atomic bomb had nothing to do with the end of the war."”

“You didn't read. "WE ANNOUNCED IT." How do you hide a nuclear explosion especially if you want your enemy to see it?”
“Raising more money for the republicants will not help one bit. They have lost the women, gays, minorities, middle class and the poor. The only way they can win is with more voter suppression. We are on to their game and no matter what states pass in regards to voters, we will meet that challenge.
Time to call it a day, republicants.”

“They have a plan, first it was gerrymandering the districts, then it was to work on voter suppression, and next is to remove voters when electing Senators. Once they get the last one (if they get it), it will be the trifecta and the minority will run and ruin this country.”
“Those democrats are a bunch of wusses. The ACA site will be fixed. More people will have health insurance. Once again, the democrats are running for the hills. They could have had single payer, but listened to the insurance companies instead. Man up, show some guts, fix the ACA site and finally, stand up for healthcare for millions of Americans!”

“Good luck with that. The State exchanges are working fine yet few are signing up, less than 1000 per state.”

“The website is the easy part and the least of your problems. Mathematics, and the law of supply and demand is your real enemy.”
