“I would suggest we all now contact our Senators and Congress people - and push for not only the Public Option, the opening up of Medicare to those 55-64, AND the elimination of the anti-trust exemption for insurance companies. The only thing the Senate bill does is advance the cause of the insurance industries to the detriment of the American People!
I have already contacted mine...and will not rest until we see a bill that WE can live with!”

“This is where I see a problem... if an employee decides to use the exchange, why would the employer be fined $750? This does not make sense.. The only way it makes sense is if the employee did NOT opt to buy on the exchange and had no insurance.”
PAsteelers replied on Dec 19, 2009 at 19:54:50
“NO, if the employee buys their own private ins and receives a subsidy then the employer will have to pay the $750.
If your employees use the Exchange, you won't be penalized. ok?
Here is some info about the Exchange.
THe In the first year (2013) the Exchange is open to individuals who do not have coverage elsewhere and small employers with 25 or less employees.
In the second year (2014) the Exchange is expanded to small businesses with 50 or fewer employees and individuals who have been offered insurance by their employer, but whose employer's plan would be unaffordable because the premium is more than 12% of the family's income.
In 2015, the Exchange is expanded to small businesses with 100 or fewer employees and the administrator of the Exchange is given the authority to continue expanding the Exchange to larger employers as the system is ready to handle increased capacity.
Businesses that want to continue providing their own health coverage as they currently do today will be able to continue to do so - no business is required to enter the exchange.”

“Jerry25, So you do not want them to eliminate the anti-trust exemption for insurance companies?”
jerry25 replied on Dec 19, 2009 at 23:29:42
“My message said I do support the elimination.
It is in the House bill and Reid promised to put it in the Senate bill as an amendment until Ben Nelson objected. Nelson is worse than Lieberman as far as being on the side of the Insurance companies (former Insurance Commissioner).
Progressives can't hurt Nelson, but Lieberman thrives at getting even with Progressives.
Progressives are partly to blame for this by paying to much attention to Govt. takeover of insurance, rather than the sure way to piss off the monopoly insurance companies - real competition amongst themselves. As of now we won't have it.
I asked that question to a higher level insurance person and she said - "what would be the point of having a McDonalds on every corner."
I would hope that in the end, the Anti-Trust Exemption is dropped and Snowe supports the final bill - and forget about Nelson - though he might support it too, if Snowe did. 61 votes!”

"* Employers not required to offer health insurance but firms with 50 or more full-time workers would pay a $750 per employee penalty if any of their workers obtain federally subsidized insurance on the exchange."
Are you saying firms with 50 or more will pay a $750 penalty if their workers obtain federally subsidized insurance? Or do NOT obtain federally subsidizedd insurance?”

“The Senate bill has no employer mandate. But firms with more than 50 workers would have to pay a fine of $750 annually per worker if any of their employees obtain federally subsidized coverage on the exchange.
I hope this answer it for you.”
