“Good afternoon, my friend. Hope all is well.
Did you click on the link that Jaxy posted. It gives 50 'Bushisms'. No. 49 was (when he spoke in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2001).
He said:- "We spend a lot of time talking about Africa, as we should. Africa is a 'nation' that suffers from incredible disease."
If you didn't read the whole likn - you should. It's a hoot!”

“Thanks, BC. Your point should be well taken by our lawmakers. Many seem to forget that since the time of our founders there have been multitudes of changes to this country but, I offer only my own opinion here, never have our politicians used such divisive ideas, and never have they used race and religion to make their challenges.”

“Good for you Mr. Sullivan. Thank you, Sir, for opening your eyes and especially for specifying your reasons which, by the way sir, the other side of the political spectrum has been aware of for some time.”

Actually, I remember it well... we have relatives in Sweden, who already thought that Americans were immature ignoramuses. Of course, eight years later, you can only imagine what they thought of us!
Electing Obama went a good ways to restoring our national dignity. Let's just hope and pray and act like we ARE respectable and dignified.”

“Didn't Bush used to think Africa was a COUNTRY? Bush was such a master of the "Malaprop" - they renamed it for him ("Bushisms") probably because "Malaprop" was too fancy and and hard for the press to pronounce...
But I suppose given the right-wing's propensities, we should just be grateful that they didn't just change the word to "English" (or maybe, "American".”

“Thanks for the one word I haven't heard used in many years. 'Malaprop'! And yet it describes so well the problems that many of us have with this - the most difficult of all languages for foreigners to learn.
I guaranty that if Katie Couric had asked Palin if she knew it's meaning, the poor Guv. would have been even more dumbstruck than she was when asked about what she read.”

“1, - an internal MIScommunication
2. - inadvertently distributed
3. - that should never have been in any kind of press release.
I'm not a sport fan but - isn't there a term in baseball that says ' "three strikes and you are out!"?
Doesn't this say something about the employees at Harper Collins - and the management of the Mall of America which would allow such such limitations.
My thought is that this means that
1. Harper Collins doesn't want the product advertised to any non-english speaking person?
2. The Mall of America doesn't appreciate non-english speaking persons on the property.
BAD ADVERTISING!!”

“Sorry couldn't reply earlier. My internet choice is either dial-up or Hughes, net - so I got Hughes.net. Watching live on the modem ate up my daily allowance so missed the comments for the rest of the day.
By the way - there's nothing courageous about taking that ride (at least not in my mind). I'd lost my husband a couple of years earlier so I sold my house and went off to look for a new one (a 'real' gipsy) and it brought me back to reality. One thing it taught me was that = far from the need to carry a weapon (gun) for protection - if you allow strangers in their own home environment to be themselves, 99.9% of the time they will show you their good side. Trouble is many folks expect others to be what THEY think they should be - and that doesn't work. Everyone is different - and we really should respect those differences.
Thanks for the interest. I also really thought NY would step up to the plate on this one. Upstate NY is so very different from downstate and NYC. They are much more conservative. YES - NEXT TIME!
Best wishes to you and yours, also!”

I loved the bike too. I'm short - and so was she. She carried me around the country years ago on a solo gipsy tour. Found out a lot about this country, it's people, it's history and geography. But most of all I learned a lot about myself. People called me 'crazy'! It was the SANEST thing I ever did.
Do you ride??”

He wants to be married and suggested that life for him hadn't always been easy - but he had always been honest with himself and others.
The man had the obvious traits but he was eloquent. I'm waiting for the Roll Call.
PLEASE, NY get it done!!!!”

Yes, our President plans on a surge (or whatever anyone wants to call it) but at least I understood the problems and the intended solutions; and the fact that the U.N is involved.
And, thank heavens, I didn't hear anything that sounded remotely like our last President's 'eloquence'.”

“is it form over substance. the result is that we still do not have defined goals, merely an intention which is still subject to developing conditions. i did not hear any negative what if's. our plan is to hope everything goes our way--the allies send more troops, afghans will provide competent military and police, afghans will create a democratic government, we will get rid of al quaida and/or taliban. yeah, well every gambler when he or she sits down at the gaming table feels the same way, that fortune will smile on them.
obama inferred that the usa was not a bottomless source of expensive support for afghanistan however, he is willing to add more deficit spending for a questionable operation. and this makes sense to you?
i am beginning to mistrust any man who has not served in the active wartime military, or who has children who are likely to serve in the military, to truly appreciate the implications of war.
"war is hell" so they say. and obama seems not to understand that.”

Can you just hear him saying;-
"Outstanding or unprecedented (instead of extraordinary) things can be accomplished by ordinary people."
That wouldn't make the statement as dramatic - and therefore, memorable.
Sorry, I don't buy this criticism. And yes, I'm here posting this comment but I'm sure there other, more important things to be discussed here.”
