“Your brainwaves must block out anything that isn't GOP smear trash. Watch the segment again. It's not that complicated. The "#saveourgirls" campaign brought pressure on the Nigerian president to accept international help. That makes a difference.”

“Even Reagan appointed judges, retired conservative judges, etc. were saying the constitutionality of Obamacare was a slam dunk case. That it was a closer vote just, again, shows the politics over law of this court. Scalia admits to listening to right-wing talk radio, and Thomas is basically a tea-party nut.”

“Exactly right. They are even blatant about it (McConall's comments about 'out number one priority is to make Obama a one term president', never mind the economy or jobs, etc. and admitting that the sole reason for lack of bipartisanship is not merits of legislation but to deny Obama a claim of bipartisanship). That all Americans' aren't outraged over the GOP's sabotage politics is a failure of news to tell the truth, out of fear of appearing partisan and losing con viewers.”

“You're right. But there's no evidence the Bengazi talking points were intentionally mis-leading at the time. Repubs want to work under the assumption that everything we know now was known the second after Bengazi happened, and that there is no 'fog of war' which simply is not the case.”

“Worshiping inherited and tax funded wealth, granted through linage, is gross in the modern world. The only reason Kate is put up on this pedestal we're supposed to worship is simply because of who she married: this also should be considered backwards and antiquated in the modern world. The fawning over the British royal family is silly and stupid.”

“I admit it will be fun to see the Repubs sweat throughout the 2016 campaign season, first through another freak-show circus tent parade during their primaries, then Hilary beating whatever flawed huckster they choose like a boulder rolling over an ant, despite being outspent by 100 million by the Koch brothers, then their existential crisis after they lose, worse and longer lasting than last time. One factor this article doesn't mention is the repubs continual instance on destroying the economy, creating gridlock, etc. just for political gain. Another positive headwind for Hilary this article doesn't mention is that Obamacare will be a clear positive for Hilary and Dems in 2016, and Americans will realize all the gop 'it will destroy America' bluster over the past 7 years have been all nonsense and a waste of time (for seven years!), which the gop should be punished for. However, Once Hilary is President, because of extreme gerrymandering they'll still probably retain the House and so will still be able to threaten default, (or nuke the U.S. economy by actually going through with their default threats) play extortion politics, shut down the government again, and so on. The only hope is that the media will finally call their anti-American, party over country, way of "governing" for the awfulness that it is, and enough independents and moderate republicans will wake up and realize how damaging this style of sabotage politics is to the nation and utterly reject it.”

“Bundy galloping around waving an American flag while denying America exists (duh) is an apt symbol of how so many on the radical right (which now represents the Republican mainstream) wrap their dangerous anti-American zealotry up in faux patriotism. They'll continue to hate America until their fantasy version of a 'real' America, where only white people matter, where rich don't have to pay taxes, where corporations are free to poison the air and banks free to steal, where anyone anywhere can carry a gun and are encouraged to shoot first in any confrontation, where Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security are abolished, abortion is illegal, Christian prayers are required in schools and Bible Sunday school replaces science classes (never mind their harsh gun and lavish the rich while punishing the poor stances are anti-Christ), and so on, emerges.”

“"The Daily Show" gets news right more often than supposed 'real' news networks (Fox and 'mainstream' playing the false equivalency game). He's smarter than most of them too, and he's not a mere sounding board squawker repeating echos and 'bullet points' from a partisan boss either, like the 'newscasters' on fox news either.”

“It's as brilliant as ever. If it cared about ratings they'd suddenly make Don a serial killer. But it's a smart show; the smartest show on TV; really, smarter than the general audience. Like a great novel, it rewards repeatedly looking back on. "The Great Gatsby" wasn't a big seller in it's time either, but if it pandered to the audience of its day it wouldn't be the classic it now is. "Mad Men" is the same way.”

TibbieLuvr on Apr 15, 2014 at 19:40:37

“I have to disagree. It's not the smartest show on TV. Not even close. Although Scandal had a hiccup a couple of weeks ago, it's back on track, and IMO, it leaves MM in the dust. I've watched every episode of both series. Of course, neither of them will ever be as good as Breaking Bad.”

“That argument loses credibility with their instance that raising revenue, despite historically low to moderate tax rates and loop holes for billion dollar corporations, should not be part of the equation, as well as their refusal to pass immigration reform which would lower the debt, and so on. What it's really about is the radicals wanting to mold the U.S. into a Ayn Rand society where government has no role in helping the lives of its citizens and the chasm between the haves and have nots widens even further.”

“What Leno fans fail to realize is just how much Leno copied and emulated (stole) from Dave. Letterman is an innovator who, more than anyone, shaped and influenced the way modern American humor is now, especially the whole random and stupid are smart and funny aesthetic, the deliberate informality, the irreverence, the dismissive of the conventional. I remember being shocked and delighted watching Late Night as a kid (weirdly first discovered as reruns on daytime cable) seeing this guy upset TV framing by walking towards the camera, playing by his own rules (willing to be rude to guests, if they deserved it) sucking up to no one or anything, including (best of all) NBC and GE (his bosses). It was daring, edgy, stuff, and I was hooked; he was like a hero. Truth be told, he'd lost some of that edge for a while, but could still, bar none, deliver the smartest interview; he clearly had the best wit of all the talk show hosts, and comedians in general; he'd still make me laugh. I suspect a lot of his haters (and Leno lovers) are just conservatives upset that Letterman never pandered to Hollywood or politicians or to manufactured patriotism the way Jay would. Dave's a legend, an American icon.”

“You repeat a lie enough times until they believe it: same with talking points, despite all evidence or logic. The only people who are "harming" the American people through the ACA are the Republican governors who refuse to expand Medicaid simply because of spite. Tell all those millions who's lives and finances are saved because of the ACA how much they've been "harmed"; try convincing them they're better off not having insurance if/when they get sick. The way the GOP have slandered the ACA for political gain is near treasonous.”
