“Mr. President , it is time for Bernanke to go!! He is no friend of the american people. He is no friend of the middle class. He is no patriot of a real democracy, he wants what the Bushies wanted a plutocracy. He has to go, because he is a clear and present danger against the future of this nation as a free democracy. It it time for him to go!!!”

“The Bushies took us into the ill advised war in Iraq and most of the American people were behind the invasion of Afghanistan. Bush/Cheney bungled the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Their buddies got richer while our troops were ill equipped and undermanned. There was no public outcry in the early years and no outrage, or unpatriotic vitriole thrown at the Bushies at the beginning. We had over a year to decide about Iraq, and the Bushies and the repug congress got us here. Obama wisely voted against the war in Iraq. He said all along, he thought Afghanistan was neglected. He is doing what he said he wanted to do during the campaign; keep his eyes on the Taliban and Alqaeda. I know that he had deliberated carefully on this issue and I am willing to give him the support to continue the job. My real prayer is that with the new focus, we will get Osama bin Laden and give the people of 9/11 justice. I believe Obama understands and will act responsibly toward our citizens and our troops. I pray for the success of our president, our nation and our troops. I just wish the democratic congress had the guts to act as responsibly and deliberately in their approach to the financial crisis, health care reform and global warming.”

“We have federal credit unions which are very good for its membership. They are good. And before, the banks were allowed to merge with whoever we had a decent banking system. The problem was greed. Also, the states need more say in what happens on banking in their state. CA tried to stop the banks from their steamrolling consumers on home loans etc.. and were stopped by the Fed as not having the power to interfere. I say if the states have a grievance, there must be some kind of recourse against the fed.”

“Conservative economists have steered this nation into a financial crisis. It is a repug theory to cut govenment spending that has failed this nation miserably. Paul Krugman a prize winning economist and someone to be believed, says that this nation needs to spend more to create jobs and that the stimulus was too small. To give these guys credibility is to spread the fear of the deficit on the short term and give the repugs ammunition for their folly. The best way to pay for the war is to sell "bonds" and encourage patriotism. I will buy bonds, if it slows the money flow to China. Repeal the Bush tax cuts and raise taxes on the rich wherever needed. The government needs to spend, the people need to invest in their country, international corps need to be penalized when they ship jobs overseas and I am glad when the WTO said China was using unfair business practices against american businesses on tires imports, that Obama had the guts to raise import duties. I really wish we could come up with some really patriotic economists, who were interested in coming up solutions, than rehashing old ideas, that don't work even in the best of times. In this nation, we need our government to be as Warren Buffet said: the bulwark against plutocracy. I have little faith in american economists, especially the conservative ones, who supported de regulation and free markets to the destruction of the middle class and american business.”

Noonen replied on Nov 25, 2009 at 21:38:17

“Where do I start?

Well first off, protectionism, which Obama used with increasing tariffs on tires, is one of the things that prolonged and worsened the Great Depression.

Also, by increasing taxes, you are saying that the government has more important things to do with our money (the gov't get its money from us, not the other way around) then we do. You are saying that the government is better stewards than the people. I profoundly disagree with that.

Government plays a role when it is impractical for individuals to do so. For example, military, justice, police, interstate transportation, etc.

Buy just because government makes sense in these cases, doesn't mean that government is the answer to all of our needs. Do you think the government should provide housing?

Finally, your idea of funding things with bond is EXACTLY what we are doing.”

Just another way the repugs show their disrespect for the people of the country and the constitution. They would rather destroy Obama than have our country overcome the disgrace of the Bush years to our democratic system. PS Health Care Reform is necessary. Even the US Chamber of Commerce says it wants health care reform (ha, ha) but they say the Senate Bill doesn't contain costs. Well I think we should give the Chamber what they want-real health care reform. The public option will really present competition in the market place, increase competition among existing insurers and give the american people real choice with applicable costs. The US Chamber says we need health care reform, just who are the repugs representing??? Special interests and the economic aristocracy sustained by the Republican Party policies.”

“I think what is stupid is the outsourcing of jobs to private companies who have been bilking the american taxpayers during a time of war. We need more government employees with expertise and an investment in a job and the success of a government project. And why aren't the democrats doing some talking about the phasing out of the Bush tax cuts. They need to tell us how much money will be generated by the phase out. Also, I think, there are a lot of government jobs out there that are not teachers, fire fighters, police that are needed and a lot more people who would qualify for the jobs. It is rediculous to continue this farce. I keep think Obama will really begin reform and instead of being out there fighting the status quo, he seems to be lulling around and letting the congress squander legislative possibilities. HOW much money will be generated by the bush tax cut phase out??? Why can't those millionaire, billionaires be the lenders to the American treasury through WAR BONDS?? When does Main Street get a break???”

“Wojtowicz accused the Hough's of skewing the Health Care Reform debate with individual tragic stories. And that's the point, the tea baggers don't want to recognize that Health Care Reform is very personal and that each person has a right to their life. The Society works to provide for life's esstentials and health care is an essential. Once the witch doctors cured all, the midwives, etc.. took care of the community. Much of the research and medical education scholarships come from the public coffers. Each member of society should benefit from the "public money" invested to make the society better as a whole. Health Care is a right. In our country, we allowed our system to go the way of the "market place" and it worked well for awhile. But then just like Wall Street, the insurance companies got greedy , gouged the public and people suffered. We need health care justice in the US for the sake of individuals, small business and society. The free market had 60 years notice to come up with a better form of health care coverage for all and failed to do it. The privatizers have made billions on Medicare and Medicaid inspite of the fact they are government run programs. Insurance companies cannot be the driving force behind health care , they have abused the privilege, the market and its customers far too long.”

No one minority group has the right to impose this tyranny on the majority of people who voted for our president and established this legal government. Putting Natural Gas to Work for America

Commented Nov 18, 2009 at 20:18:41 in Green

“I am sorry but natural gas has to be proven safer to use before, I would bring it to my home and into my car. My mother's house blew up when her natural gas furnace misfired. My neighbors in Baltimore have been poisoned by carbon monoxideg due to natural gas leaks. My neighbors home burned due to natural gas. I use oil for my furnace, and have never worried about my house blowing up, my stove blowing up or my kids dying from carbon monoxide poisoning. Convince me that natural gas is safe for me and my family. I am all for finding alternative fuel resources, but natural gas does not have a good reputation.”

They are threatening our President and legally elected officials. There are T Shirts now being sold, that quote a psalm from the Bible which asks people to Pray for the President and the next psalm mentions making his wife a widow and his children orphans. I am sorry folks but I think it is time for the "people" to begin supporting the President, respecting his office and put a stop to societal acceptance "that these characters have a right to spread their hatred and condone violence upon the President, Nancy Pelosi and other elected officials. When Homeland Security suggested that the country was at risk for terrorist attacks from home grown malitias last year, they were condemned by the repugs. These people are dangerous to our national security. They profess the overthrow our govt and the killing of our President. To preach the overthrow of the government is treason. To support the murder of our President is treason. They can speak out , but we do not have to give them an audience. I think this type of rhetoric is dangerous and the FCC should be looking at what Glenn Beck and O'Reilley are advocating. Surely what they are promoting is a lot more offensive than a few curse words. We need to step up and demand accountability from these religious equivalents of the KKK.”

“Yeah, I think 5 years is toooo long consumers. It also, gives the banks/merchants too much time holding onto the money, that should be turned over to the state as "Unclaimed property" to benefit the "common good. In addition, I agree that something needs to be done once the card reaches below $5. Right now, I have in my wallet 3 cards, one with a 1.95 bal, 2.50 bal and 3.95 bal. I also, purchased a mall card one year, but had too much difficulty spending the money in the MALL. And what is the protection for holders of gift cards for companies that go out of business. The American consumer is being mugged every day by the shady undertakings by the financial institutions in this country. It is time for the public to get its superior role back in this economy.”

The Debt Economy - How The Tax Code Encourages Debt : The New Yorker

Commented Nov 17, 2009 at 15:31:45 in Business

“The tax code is used and misused to accomplish economic goals. From tax cuts, tax credits, itemized deductions, energy credits, child care credits, etc...each is directed to help people and businesses operate and to avoid taxation of essentials. Encouraging home ownership is good, the way the real estate industry abused that privilege is what led to the current financial crisis. In addition, I would point out, that while credit card interest rates were itemized deductions, the banks were somewhat curtailed in the amount of interest they could charge and get away with it. Once the deduction was removed from individual tax returns, the rates shot up to usurious rates and hardly anyone noticed. When their actions impacted the treasury each year, visibly, there was scrutiny and accountability. Once that "protection" was lifted, the banksters just ran away with mugging consumers day after day. coincidense? Maybe!!”

They are doing to us, what the banksters did with credit card reform. The congress gave the banks "time" to adopt systems to adjust t the new regs. and of course we know what they did. They jacked up all the credit card interest rates before the regs go into effect. It is one thing for the lobbyists to have a seat at the table, it is another for them to take up all the seats and lie, and lie and lie. When does the congress get mad, mad, mad??? I am getting impatient with all their patience. One thing at least Sen Harkin says on health care reform, that the dems will do whatever it takes to get it done. Memo to Warren Buffett: Put Down the Pom-Poms and Tell Us the Truth About the Economy

Commented Nov 16, 2009 at 23:35:48 in Business

“I disagree. I think we need people Buffet speaking about the economy and his expectations for the future of the country. Buffett assures the American public that taxation of the richest in the nation will not send them packing to another country or dissuade them from going to the office to make more money each day. Fair Taxation, progressive taxation is good for the country. In addition, I think he pointed out his expectations for government. We must have an effective government. He said and I hope the President and Congress is listening- "government is the bullwark against plutocracy".
