“USAFVET76,
First of all, thank you for your service to our country. Seriously.
Second, if those are your only arguments against liberals, you'll find that you have much more in common with them than you think. Libs feel that law-abiding citizens should keep their guns, libs are just fine with letting those that choose to risk THEIR money do so, fully support ANY RELIGION to be practiced in our country and have no problem with letting gay people be gay. So you seem to be aligned with libs on the Guns-God-Gays front. As far as our justice system goes, without allowing the alleged to defend themselves as we do, your freedom of speech, right to carry guns or right to practice religion would be stamped out, like in some other countries.”

If it's a rare instance, it's a rare instance -- no need to use an analogy, as analogies often make fools of the brightest men (and women). My sis-in-law was hit three times by lightning, for instance, but she's never seen Rime Ice. And, she lives just far enough from the Denver airport for Rime Ice to become an incident for her -- as it was for this family in Brush, CO.

“I'm not surprised they were able to get a call out before drowning. Mythbusters covered such a scenario and demonstrated how easy it is to drown in a vehicle that goes into the water. The pressure of the water prevents doors and windows from opening until most of the air is out of the cabin. By that time, the panic striken passengers will have exhausted themselves. My heart goes out to their parents and friends. How tragic.”

“My condolences to the family. This was a horrible accident.
advice:
If in a submerged or submerging car, first attempt to lower the windows with one hand and unbuckle the seat belt with the other. If the windows won't open, one needs to bust out the windshield by kicking it outwards with your feet. Most windshields are made to pop out if you kick hard enough.
A 2- to 10-minute lapse exists before a vehicle sinks.
unlock doors, roll down windows or sunroof. A door opens when the water is above your knees, but as it descends this option is gone.
Release seatbelts before you submerge. Help children or elderly.
Break the side window before you submerge if you were unable to open it or the door. Try kicking at the glass. Use a hammer or pointed tool available in the car. A window punch tool works above and below water. Apply force to the corner of the glass not the center.
Try to exit through the trunk before submerged if windows and doors remain closed. Many cars are equipped with rear fold down seats to access the trunk. Know the location of the hanging trunk release pull. Release this and swim out.
Take a long last breathe before the car's interior completely fills with water.
Push open a door if unlocked. The inside pressure is equal to the outside. If you are in a river, open the door opposite the river flow.”

“Everyone who lives and drives near water should carry a hammer or a special window breaking tool where the driver & passengers can reach it. Breaking a window will let the water in of course but it also lets the people out. Once there is equal water in and out of the vehicle, the pressure differential is lost and the doors can be opened. It takes a lot to remain calm in that situation though.”
dems08 replied on Nov 04, 2009 at 09:07:00
“I thought that they showed that many times power windows will continue to operate even if the vehicle is underwater.
I could be mistaken.”
I could be mistaken.”
Gasparilla replied on Nov 04, 2009 at 07:44:18
“The pressure does not prevent the windows from opening, since they are not being moved against the water, as a door is. If the power window still works, or they are manual, they will easily roll down.”

“I wouldn't say those are our only choices. I was simply talking about pollyanish vs. verses brute force mentalities. Neither will work toward relief of terrorism by fundamentalists. This requires the civilians to erradicate these elements themselves. We can support them, but we can't force it on them. It has to come from within. Hard to do when they're pulling their dead children from rubble. It's very easy for them to blame the US for all of their problems, even if it's not our weaponry doing the killing. What a mess.”

“So does the notion that you can bomb them into submission, if that's what you're implying. We're not fighting an army. They live among the population which makes it impossible to erradicate them without killing everyone else. Every single civilian casualty over there breeds several new people who devote their lives to bringing down the US.”

Try to keep in mind that you're getting mostly bad press about the FBI. News media really doesn't care about what any law enforcement agency does right. Ad revenue really depends upon the horrific, juicy stuff. While the FBI has it's problems, they're actually good guys working to keep America safe.”

7 Stories That Prove You Don't Need A Car To Get A DUI

“I completely agree. But its getting more common to react to stupidity with stupidity. A tricycle? A horse? How does a horse ram into a car? I think the author of this article probably doesn't drink, and has an axe to grind against those who do. Just reading the first sentence sums it up.”
Aerows replied on Oct 26, 2009 at 10:12:21
“Exactly. Horses don't "ram" cars. Cars impose themselves where a horse was walking because the person in the car is on a crusade against a) people riding horses b) people drinking c) people not like them.
Seriously, you do not own a horse and live in the middle of the city. You own a horse and live out in the sticks. Someone was probably angry at the person riding the horse, and of course, she got arrested after getting harassed by a cop. Being female in rural areas and having a beer amounts to being "blitzed" if a male gets angry and picks up the phone.”
