“We live in a world where people can hear a song in Arabic, Portaguese, spanish, Indian and be moved by it and decide to sing it. It is not unusual for an Opera singer who might have a native tongue of English to sing in German or French or Italian. Why should we be surprised that in this modern age, people are being exposed to more music and more people are travelling those "less traveled" paths and creating new fan bases of the genre or the language. She must be an incredible spirit to love something, be moved by it enough to want to do it and take massive action to make it happen. How many of us would go to Lebenon without speaking the language to chase our dream? She's truly special.”
“so federal government sets the objective and local government sets the method to reach the objective?”
djoel10 on Dec 9, 2013 at 09:28:27
“Yes!! local districts determine the curriculum they will use to align with the common core standard. There have a lot to choose from. These are produced by private companies. In Michigan, only a few of the districts are now common core driven. But in time, if they want federal funds, they will all be.”
“If there was true buyers remorse, they would be voted out to such a large extent that you could change the law. But that didn't happen, did it?
The constitution is the highest law of the land. The constitution says Congress makes the law, The president signs the law, and supreme court interprets the law as constitutional. This law passed all of that...therefore, it is the law of the land. Shall i slow that down for you?
The constitution is in perfect harmony with this law. You can cry about it, but it doesn't change that fact.”
“The sliver is not growing. It is staying stagnent and even disperseing more and more. The numbers Palin is talking about is sophmoric. We are runnig a country that is sitting on the greatest amount of wealth in hisotyr. We are sitting on the most educated country in the history of the planet. We are sitting in a country that has more Universities per square inch than any country in the history of this planet. At the same time, we are sitting in a country that has real problems of poverty, real problems of income gap and wealth gap. Those gaps are the seeds of the destruction of this great country. Palin is just a person who uses red hot button words like "slavery" or "holocaust" to get some attention. Otherwise, she has no deep insight into anything. She is the least read about our history, about our current situation, and even about where this country needs to invest. She's not worth two minutes of discussion and it really upsets me that Huffington post even covers her because it means money for Huffington post. She is literally a rat in a ship. There is no value in her being involved in any aspect of politics.”

“She has as much right to a voice and opinion as the oft mentioned Martin and as far as the sliver size, regardless, as we move into 14 and the news of unintended consequences with Obama care/admin actions continues we will get a chance for a re-count on where we are going.
We do have a lot of higher education available in the US, too bad that the US pop cant seem to make good use of it seeing as we are something like 21st in a rating of educational skills.
I'll have to back up and look at the source numbers Palin used but the facts that I am aware of are almost overwhelmingly negative and she would he hard pressed to see a worst case than I do.
With 85% of our national debt in short term notes at historic lows of interest everyone seems to forget the days when interest was 6's and 7's. When this cycle reverses all of the problems we have $ wise will be amplified.
Remember when the tech economy (not Clinton or his congress) balanced the US budget and wiped out our debt? What did our politician do? (they spent the surplus)
Don't expect politicians to save the world, its not in their job description”
“It's an old game the tea party plays to pretend they are not the fringe. Sara Palin is supported by about 20% of the population. Both sides of the Isle, on average, do not respect her. No serious individual looks at Sara Palin as a serious political thinker or a person with deep insight into our society. But there are a few people who like her a great deal because she knows how to push the right buttons to get cash. I mean she's smart in that way...but even a mouse is smart in that way. If you run a trial of a bunch of mice pressing a red button and sugar comes to them, they will press that red freaking button all day. That's all People like Sara Palin do...They press the red button that leads to money.”
“she raises the toxicity level in every environment she goes. She goes around comparing a modern healthcare bill to slavery. She's an absurd and ridiculous person. She's a caracature of a hack politician. She knows how to milk the system and make money. She's been good for the left leaning media and right leaning media. She just is not good for the average american who wants a decent government.”
“There has always been room for a few dummies in our political landscape. But the 24/7 media cycle and constant access has made it worse. Palin is a product of fox and huffington post. Both sides love it because she immediately gets a response. The faster she disappears from the public discussion, the better off we all are.”
“Palin does not represent neither side of that divide. Just a small fragment. Most republicans dislike her more than democrats. It's a small sliver of the republican party holding everyone hostage right now. The truth of the matter is that different views based on a good chain of reasoning is great. Different points of view looking at different outcomes. But it has to be reasonable. Going around and saying the absurd and ridiculous just to make some cash is just ridiculous. Frankly, Huffington Post is just as responsible for her popularity as FOX. They both love her cause she makes it rain (money) without any benefit to Americans in general.”

“The sizable "sliver" is small but growing just like the extreme progressive "sliver" is progressing.
I would caution you that, to a great degree, the math behind Palin's concern is accurate.
As a nation we are spending ourselves into a hole.
If there is a coming conflict it will be about what services our government can provide and how we will pay for them.
If Palin mis-spoke it was to use the slavery description instead of indentured servitude (more accurate)
While Palin may speak for a more extreme right populace you would be greatly mistaken to think that the majority of conservatives and independents don't see her point and agree with the math.
There is no sex in the champagne room (got to love CR) and no free lunch. Managed by the obama admin our growth is moving sideways, impediments to growth are multiplying and head winds are growing.
A huge segment of the US population has to balance their bank account weekly-daily and about the time the Fed eases QE3 you will see the 0% money our government is living on disappear.
When real interest gets to above 3% this issue will be front and center.
By 2016 this will be a front page issue along with the factual numbers on obamacare (whichever way they come out)
My opinion is that it is not going to be pretty”
“She's not used to the attacks. She makes money off of it. Just like Miley Cyrus. Go ahead and make fun of miley on your facebook. It just keeps her in the public conversation. Unfortunately, the price of Palin is much higher than Miley's twerking...it poisons our political process and, our society.”
iyanovskay on Dec 6, 2013 at 09:06:47
“With all my respect, Miley doing that to herself and do not insult another person with dirty mouth.”
redgg78 on Dec 6, 2013 at 09:01:50
“Palin 'isn't used to the attacks?' That's a thigh-slapper if I ever heard one. She's been the most ridiculed and viciously maligned politician of the last 10 years. If every left-wing commentator who attacked her was fired, there wouldn't BE any left-wing commentators.”

“There is nothing poison about expressing an opinion, this is after all the USA. I hate to refer to hollywood for leadership but you should consider picking up a copy of "American President" and fast forward to the conclusion where Michael Douglas (I would point out that he is a fine upstanding progressive and a good actor) speaks about his membership in the ACLU and flag burning.
Yes I am a member................................................Liberty and the USA means that you must be able to celebrate and respect your country's flag and at the same time defend another persons right to burn that flag as a protest.
We have serious problems that need serious answers and your 15 minutes of fame are up.
With our country divided 52-48% it is pretty simplistic to just refer to an almost equal segment of the population as hateful and poison.
Get out and talk to someone who does not think as you do, you will probably find you much more in common than not.
I'd be glad to see more reason and less poison but then it was your choice to go there.
Not exactly what I would expect from your tag line. Reach deeper”
“And Huffington Post and other organizations like it helped her. That's the price of jumping on a story without checking in a bit first. That's the new brave world.”

“Any allegation against white or heterosexual people is automatically believed, evidence isn't a big deal to the true believers. In this case, however, the credit card receipt leaves little wiggle room to go after these straight patron. If there was, 90% of liberals would believe it.”
IndyStacey on Dec 6, 2013 at 09:14:00
“I agree to an extent, but the restaurant manager verified her story at the time. Apparently, he didn't fact check either.”
“That's the standard around here. Judge first without all the facts, fuel the fire, claim a moral superiority, and then, if it's convenient, get around to the facts later. Oh...but never apologize for all the hatred spewed aimed at the conservatives/religious because they just deserve it.”
“Labeling and generalizations was convenient tools used to dismiss and discount Nelson Mandela. It is also a convenient tool used today to dismiss and discount peoples aspirations. There was an objective to attacking Mandela - in order to keep power in the hands of the South Africans with European heritage. There is also an objective to labeling Muslims as terrorists - to divvy up assets. When the media is used as a tool of propaganda to label people it has an objective - and it's not usually about peace and love. (see Nazi Germany's propaganda about Jews, or early American propaganda about Native Americans, or propaganda in England about Mandela and his group, or current propaganda attempts of Muslims in the United States).”
“You seem to think that you can cherry pick data, lie, and just plain make stuff up because you believe you were personally wronged.
"70% of the congress voted for the plan"
It doesn't matter if they were voted out afterwards. they were voted in, and they voted. Consistent with the law of the land. No where in the constitution does it say that one republican has to be included. Or that laws that were passed by congressmen who were voted out shall be null and void.
"The government has no right to tell me what I must buy for my own good."
The constitution is our statement of vision and values and the government is that vision made real. So when CONGRESS passed the Bill, The president signed it, it became LAW OF THE LAND. When the SUPER CONSERVATIVE supreme court confirmed it, that law became even more powerful. It's been triple checked by the constitution. So, YES THE GOVERNMENT HAS EVERY RIGHT TO TELL YOU TO OBEY THIS LAW.
By the way, your previous link showed your blatant disregard for the truth. You like to make stuff up. So I looked at the Forbes article too. It's written by Pacifi Institute Research - a cult dedicated to their God "the Market". "The Market" is all powerful and all knowing and it's powers must never be checked for ye shall face severe punishment! What a bunch of crock!”

“"It doesn't matter if they were voted out afterwards."
Of COURSE it matters. It's called "buyer's remorse." That's when you pick something up and later realize you got the wrong thing.
"it became LAW OF THE LAND. "
The Constitution is the highest law of the land.
And the law as it stands now with all those exemptions that Obama wrote, IS NOT THE SAME LAW THAT WAS PASSED.
"So, YES THE GOVERNMENT HAS EVERY RIGHT TO TELL YOU TO OBEY THIS LAW."
“I just think there is too many smart people in these rooms. Most of whom lack spine. By that I don't mean we need fearless brutes. We need individuals who have the ability to move forward because she feel the pain of the common person and knows that if she stops because of her own fears, the cost will be high for the common man. Intelligence is not all that special. many people have it. Courage is what allows us to jump through our own superstitions, our own fear, our own generalizations and assumptions to make that leap. She goes where the evidence leads her and doesn't stop because it becomes too costly.”
“Indeed. But at her level lots of people have brains. They just don't have the courage to go where logic, reason and compassion takes them. They let fear stop them. She seems to feel the fear, but keep moving forward - the hallmark of courage.”
