9 People Who Will Throw A Wrench In Your Dinner Party

9 People Who Will Throw A Wrench In Your Dinner Party

Commented Apr 4, 2014 at 10:15:41 in Taste

“If the people invited are friends or family, do any of the above really matter?”

portia2708 on Apr 4, 2014 at 10:56:32

“WOW...if you have to ask, you must have really great friends and family...my sincere congratulations, but most of us have both friends and family who are great on most occasion, but as the author pointed out, for a dinner party, certain of those friends or family could prove very trying or just plain boring”

“The 'several hundred dollars more per year' for labels idea has been planted by the GMO producing and using companies who are afraid that when people find out that for the most part these foods have not been thoroughly tested and that they do cause negative effects in the people and animals who eat them won't buy their products. Propaganda. Want to watch a good movie on the subject? Look up GENETIC ROULETTE. Labeling GMOs won't cost us anything. The designer just puts it in when designing the rest of the label, end of story.”

They make more than enough money to add to the label without passing the cost on to the consumer or gouging them over it.”

Rick Santorum Questioned Obama's Faith In 2008, Said There's No Such Thing As A Liberal Christian

Commented Feb 21, 2012 at 18:35:12 in Politics

“Mr. Santorum seems to be missing the point that in the United States we have a little thing called separation of church and state. The whole idea of separation of church and state is so that people, and politicians, do not use religion as a means to discriminate against others. The mention of religion in ANY political context is dangerous and against the founding spirit of this country. The United States was founded on the premise of religious freedom. Freedom of religion for everyone - not just Christians, and not just certain types of Christians. As a member of the United Church of Christ, which grew out of the Congregationalist Church organization - I have also evolved to embrace the beliefs that are more in tune with Unitarian-Universalism, which also grew from the same foundations as the United Church of Christ. I am not only concerned for the freedom of faith and freedom of religion in the U.S. of ALL Christians, but for all those Americans of Jewish, Moslem, Hindu, Buddhist and and any other faith. What have we come to?
Mr. Santorum, and many of his fellow Republican candidates seem to feel that it is acceptable to mount character attacks on anyone, including our President, who does not believe exactly as they do. I find this to be discriminatory, prejudiced, dangerous, and mean. Hardly Christian qualities, or qualities that a devout rational person of any religion would embrace.

This is not only sad, but, very, very dangerous.”

Should I Tell My Future Child About My First Marriage?

“Sometimes, people like this woman's ex-husband hide their behavior. Happened to me. Happens all the time. When the honeymoon's over - out come the behaviors that were too excessive to show before. The important thing is that she got out before she was physically hurt. Bravo for her that she got out so as not to allow a child to experience that kind of pain, and, maybe adopt those behaviors. Should she tell her child-to-be? Yes, by all means. A woman forewarned is a wise woman. Even if one is warned to look out for hidden behaviors that may may show themselves over time. No sense in judging her - sometimes these things can be helped.”

“Thanks, Jeanne, for an an incredibly clear explanation of the subtle levels of the mind and of ego liberation through regular TM practice. My favorite part: "This expanded state of self is not selfish. When we are secure within ourselves, we are less obsessed with our own needs and more sensitive to others. Ego liberation begets forgiveness and compassion." The first thing that crossed my mind was: meditate, transcend, and Occupy Cosmic!”
How He Transformed The Beatles

How He Transformed The Beatles

Commented Oct 4, 2011 at 11:13:11 in Healthy Living

“My friends and I were true Beatles fans, listening to their music nonstop, buy the memorabilia, clipping articles from the newspaper. It wasn't until 11 years after hearing about the Beatles that I learned how to meditate. I stuck with both TM and the Beatles throughout the years - meditating and keeping track of what was going on with each them through news reports and through listening to their music. One of my favorite benefits from TM is how it has made me feel connected to everyone and everything. So, it warmed my heart to hear, years later, that George was still meditating, that George had completed the TM-Sidhi program, that Paul was still meditating and had taken his daughter to meet Maharishi, and that Paul and Ringo had participated in the benefit concert at Radio City. I like to think that they also experienced the same benefit as me -- the experience that the world is my family. Thanks for the great article, Jeanne. Can't wait to see the movie!”

Women and Stress: Why We Meditate

Commented Sep 2, 2011 at 17:27:27 in Women

“TM has been there for me through many exhausting and trying times. It was there for me while I was working and taking continuing education classes at the same time, during cross-country moves, career changes, and it is there for me now, as I take care of my 90 year old father. I have been surprised, over and over again, to not only be able to get through these times with a fair amount of energy and stability, but also with my sense of humor intact. I am sure that without my regular practice of TM, life would be more tiring and a lot less enjoyable!”

hp blogger Jeanne Ball on Sep 2, 2011 at 18:22:47

“Thanks Cheryl, for pointing out meditating is not an escape from life's challenges, but a way to strengthen ourselves with greater calmness and clarity for dealing with responsibilities.”

How Congress Rewarded the Corps of Engineers for Drowning New Orleans

Commented Aug 29, 2011 at 11:14:39 in Green

“Thank you, Ms. Rosenthal, and everyone at Levees.org, for your tireless work to bring to light the truth behind the August 29, 2005 disaster in New Orleans. Let's hope America is listening, and quickly comes to understand that it wasn't Hurricane Katrina that took over 1600 lives and forever changed so many others, it was poor engineering, lack of oversight and greed. We need to overcome these faults. Lives depend upon it.”
