“Hell on earth manifested due to ignorance, delusion, fear. This says more about our modern world than we want to know I guess. While the individuals are responsible for this horrible crime, they have been indoctrinated along the way and not just because of Isalm, but because of the current culture of insanity of our whole world and our inability as a species to come together for each other (note climate change). Such a terror to be killed because of love (brutally breaks the heart)...that alone shows what we've become and the fact we are not evolving but spinning our wheels as a species.”

“The issue isn't so much that all MPs are serving in their own self interest, it's that the power structures are systemically corrupted in favour of the status quo monied interests and any MP who stands up against that finds themselves in the hinterland. Russell Brand represents a reaction to a system which has lost its fundamental values and I don't blame him for his anger at the current parliamentary process. We could take the first step in changing it through proportional representation...that would be a big start and we wouldn't be throwing the baby out with the bath water...but of course the current power structures don't want change because it's working well for them. Oh well...all power to you Russell....”

“The "harper government" was in contempt of parliament, i.e. broke the law, lied to the Canadian public and missed taxers funds before the last election and enough people still voted for them to give them a majority...so apparently many Canadian's share the arrogant Conservatives view that they are right in all things even though the majority in no way agree with them including the Supreme Court. It's religious, economic and political fundamentalism at its finest.”

“They won with less than 30% of the vote, so it's not the majority by any means and if you include in the fact the only 60% of the eligible voters voted then it's some 17% of voters who put this government into power...by no means a mandate to do as much damage to Canada as they have been doing”

“Actually the Russians have a pretty big hand to play...called the petrodollar..they are pushing to switch to the petrorubble and get China and India to follow suit and so crash the US economy which has been artificially held afloat because of the petro dollar. The wars in Iraq, Libya, Syria (and Iran next) are due to the fact they tried to move off the petrodollar. Putin is not at risk in loosing the economic might, but undoubtedly has a plan. Scary times from falling empires.”

“Too bad we can't escape politics when it comes to protecting the environment over The Market forces. Money and good lifestyles cause so much delusion. We may have to lower our standard of living, we may have to be more cooperative, less wasteful, more thoughtful, we may have to have people change jobs and phase out whole industries and focus on self sufficiency as a goal instead of massive profits for foreign owners and their current crop of Canadian lapdogs; because if we don't do this now and voluntarily it will be severely imposed on us and our children by mother nature, she is rumbling now. We could do this if there were any political leaders with vision and integrity and whom would actually work for all Canadians instead of their "base". We need to stop putting carbon into our atmosphere now...that is so obvious...http://www.climatecentral.org/news/climate-changes-impacts-are-here-will-worsen-without-adaptation-ipcc-says-17240

“I agree that "Gang control, drug liberalization and suicide prevention/mental illness treatment will do far more." And add on gun control and you will help. Suicide prevention is also about restricting access to the means - that works. So if as you say 2/3 of the gun deaths are suicides, well take away the guns and that'll help. Or keep the guns and make bullets illegal...what do people need guns for? If no one has them, no one needs them.”

Shane Gericke on Mar 30, 2014 at 13:07:07

“Come on, Christopher. Do you really believe that declaring guns illegal means there will be no more shootings? Criminals, by definition, do not obey laws. All you will give them is another law to not obey.

You also will not succeed in "taking the guns away." It's simply not going to happen, not with 300 million in circulation and us living in a constitutional republic that says people are free to own them as they wish.

So, given all that, I get back to my contention that further gun control is both silly and a waste of money and time that we should invest in gang, drug and suicide policy changes.”
