“President Fierce Advocate will not take the lead on this. DADT will be left to the next democrat in the White House whenever that will be. It unfortunate that so many people in the LGBT community supported Obama with their time, energy, and money. What a waste! Obama hates gay people. Pure and simple.”

“Nancy: Obama will sign any health bill that crosses his desk---even if it totally outlaws abortion. His team needs a big win and it's all about the healthcare now, baby! So what if he has to throw women under the bus to make that happen? Nancy, Obama is your guy. Your organization endorsed him over Hillary in the primaries. Now it's time to reap what you sowed. If healthcare passes with restrictions and Obama signs it---it's all on you.”

Good Reason for Muslims to Fear Ft. Hood Backlash
Commented Nov 07, 2009 at 18:43:15 in Politics
“Last week I flew out to our nationa;s capital and then came back home. At the airport, the TSA pulled an 80 year-old man from our line for a more vigourous search. Why? When, in the history of aviation in the US, has an 80 year-old man taken down a plane? None. But the TSA pulls 8- year-old men out of the line for searches because they don't want to hurt the sensibilites of Muslims. I hate that, in the name of political correctness, we can't call a spade, a spade. This man who shot up Fort Hood apparently threw up many red flags as to his mental state and where this could go. Was it ignored because he was Muslim and no one wanted to "hurt his feelings?"”

If you want to blame anyone - blame our defenses. If I had any say, I would have taken that guy right in right there. 6 months of evidence and we don't have the guts to take the guy in?

Media Decides Tasered Grandmother Was Asking for It
Commented Oct 14, 2009 at 16:10:14 in Politics
“If the officer didn't have the taser, what would he do with a 72 year-old woman who questioned his actions. Would he shoot her with his gun? Would he wrestle her to the ground? Would he call for a female back up? Too many times the cops are too fast to pull the taser. They pull it when they don't want to answer questions by the people they stopped. Once the woman agreed to sign the ticket, why didn't he have her sign the ticket and be on her way?”

Many make SOCIAL CONTACT via various "communities" they frequent, could be their church, their neighborhood orsuch as the PTA....SOC IAL INTERACTION HAPPENS and IT IS NOT EACH AND EVERY TIME AN ACT OF HARRASSMENT --people being SOCIAL creatures make connections--check out how many actually hook up in such instances--check how many met their "mates" via such---hard to hook up with ANYONE EVER if not socially active in the various "communities" one frequents. ..very lonely existence. Most of us select our SOCIAL arrangements , seek those with whom we share COMMONALITY of INTERESTS. ..nothing unusual about that--little truth to the opposites attracts thingy in reality --no commonality , little chance for CONNECTIVITY !!”

David Letterman is not a politician, nor anyone with undue influence. If he is to some, that's their misfortune. Thinking people recognize he is a comedian with a talk show...not hing more, nothing less.”

The New "Hope" of Barack Obama
Commented Sep 07, 2009 at 09:41:40 in Politics
“A new President has the good will of the people for only a short time. Then the opposition party starts to find ways to exploit him. Obama wasted his good will on a stimulus package that looks to reward those same banks that got us into this mess in the first place. Now, it looks like the health care reform we were promised is going to be compromised into meaningless. I'm not a leader in progressive politics. I'm a liberal and keen observer of my community. The poor and middle class have not reaped much from all the spending Washington has been doing lately. Even the "cash for clunkers" program didn't help those who couldn't afford (or have the credit) to buy a new car. Obama has blown his opportunity to make the change he talked about so much during the campaign. And the poor and middle class will be the poorer because of that.”

he's only seven months into his four year term, but you've already given up; why hasn't he done all of the "gay stuff" he promised? gee, he could have done that the first day, right?
perhaps you would prefer instead for him to have some big bang-up ceremony, be estatic, and then have the whole thing go to hell like Prop 8 did in California, or get struck down by the Supreme Court, setting us back another twenty years.
you can't move past Rick Warren (when was the last time you even heard a single thing about him since the inaguration?), yet somehow the rest of us are supposed to move forward.
you don't bother to sit back and look at the larger picture, realizing what a brilliant politician he is, and in reality is setting up the republicans for complete and utter failure by their turning into the part of "no". how will this play in the midterms, when the economy turns around, and all that video of "no" is playing in commercials?
oh, I'm sorry, let's skip the economy, the wind down of the Iraq war, closing of Guantanamo, stem cell research, insurance coverage for children, respect thruout the world....t he gay stuff is the only thing that matters!!!”

Michael Vick: Black Sheep or Scapegoat on Animal Rights?

“Mike Vick tortured dogs he didn't think were aggressive enough or did not win their fights. He just didn't fight dogs, he killed them if they didn't perform to his standards. He shocked them with electricity and cut them with knives. He is a very evil man. Alec: you say Vick hasd paid his debt to society. Well, only if you agree that a measley few months behind bars was enough punishment. I think Vick got off too easy.”

“George Bush and Dick Cheney tortured men and they are still running around free with no remorse. No one has taken away their pensions or other perks. No one has required them to make amends and travel the country speaking out against torture and cruelty.
But in our society, dogs are holier than brown men, or black men? Pit bulls with lipstick get to lie across the nation inciting violence against "those others" with nary a peep...or even shoot from planes another form of "dog" but pay no price.
I agree with you Alec, Michael Vick is paying the price for his wrong doing while a thousand miscreants continue their outrageous wrongs with impunity. If Vick was white, the public would "forgive and forget" so much easier.
Its so easy to condemn Vick on such acts, everyone can get in on the band wagon and feel oh so superior.”

Why Does Obama Use Executive Power for Everything But Gay Troops?
Commented Aug 10, 2009 at 15:59:14 in Politics
“Obama hates gay people. Well, maybe that's a bit harsh. But the fact of the matter is that Obama doesn't have anyone close to him that is gay. Unlike Cheney who has a gay daughter. It's easier to dismiss gay issues if you don't sit across the breakfast table from a gay relative or friend every morning. Plus, Obama's religious background doesn't lend itself to be inclusionary of gays and lesbians. Espcially if he hanging around with the likes of McCracken and Warren.”

The GOP's White Guy Fix
Commented Aug 09, 2009 at 21:13:42 in Politics
“The reason Obama's approval ratings have sharply dipped among whites with incomes less than $75,000 is because the economic bailout hasn't reached them. This is the group that has seen the largest number of job layoffs. They see billions of dollars going to the banks who give millions out in bonuses, but have kept a tight hand on lending. Even the cash for clunkers program is beyond their reach. You can't buy a new car when you are not working. Health care costs went up 25% but wages did not. Local governments are raising fees, nickel and diming taxpayers to the poor house. The Great Recession is hurting and the Great Bailout hasn't been the remedy.”
Stimulus Spending Fails to Follow Unemployment, Poverty
Commented Aug 06, 2009 at 09:39:03 in Politics
“In my little corner of the world, all the money that Washington has spent so far seems to be going to those who already have enough money. The poor continue to be poor. They don't qualify for the "Clunkers" program because you must be credit worthy enough to be able to buy a new car. The banks have been very slow in helping with refinancing. They got all that money and they're sitting on it. Foreclosures in my state continue to increase every month. My business has slowed to almost a complete stop. I get my food through a co-op where we buy in bulk and buy off-brand products. I only go to the movies when I get a free ticket. At age 52, I thought I'd be living better than this. I lived like this when I was in college!”

“The only thing that can really help people, is to bring back jobs. The government can't hire everyone. The programs in the stimulus ARE helping the economy and businesses, and getting them to a place where they can start hiring people. The fact that we hit bottom in January or February, and could possibly be out of a technical recession by the 3rd quarter is nothing short of amazing. These policies did work, even if people can't immediately see the results.”

States Forced to Cut Services to the Bone: The Opportunity Cost of the Bank Bailout
Commented Jul 26, 2009 at 14:30:48 in Home
“If they money had gone directly to the taxpayers, they would have spent it. They would have put the money towards their mortgages or used it to buy new homes, thereby fixing the mortgage crisis. Many would have used the money to buy new cars, thereby bailing out Detroit's automakers. Some of the people would have put the money into savings, thereby giving the bank the money to invest and loan, thereby fixing the banking crisis. And some people would have used the money to buy items for their homes, going out to eat, or going on vacation, thereby providing both large and small businesses with customers leading to employment of still others. That's what would have happened if Obama had a bottom up rather than trickle down theory for economic recovery. In all my years (52 of them) I have never been trickled on. The money just never gets this far down.”

Not so. The stimulus package includes a large tax cut for households. But they are using most of it to pay off credit card debt and increase their savings. While that is a prodent thing to do from the standpoint of the households, it does not provide the economy with a stimulus.”

Well, we're finding out now, aren't we? We have compromise after compromise and flip flop after flip flop. Some of us have been told that promises made on the campaign trail will be promises deferred and we will need to tolerate discrimination awhile longer. This is not the Change we had been hoping for. For Obama to simply mandate these rights would give too many people leeway to fight against them and create a much bigger problem.
