It's true that health care reform and health insurance reform entails much, much more than just only a public option. There are many, many aspects, and no single one is "essential". That's true. It's also true that we need a public option. That's still true.

So to me, this is not a mixed message.

People just need to stick with the facts instead of "reacting" to every news cycle.”

I'm surprised she did not mention the nearly 400,000 African American soldiers who served in the U.S. Army during World War I.

Most of them worked in segregated labor battalions, but about 20 percent fought in two specially created all-black combat units, the 92nd and 93rd Divisions, under command of white officers. Those two divisions yielded famous regiments such as the 369th "Hell Fighters" and the 372nd "Bloody Hand" ... which were not allowed to fight alongside white soldiers and were not even allowed to fight in U.S. Army uniforms. Instead, they were assigned to the French Army, where, for example, the entire 372nd received the Croix de Guerre, France"s highest military honor, for battlefield valor.”

“This just confirms that Obama is a "brand" more than just a "candidate." Obama the brand stands for something that people want. In it's broadest possible definition, Obama the brand is about possibilities and being inspired to do that which one didn't think they could. So, the Obama brand is a self-improvement brand, a self-esteem brand. But through the improvement of one comes the improvement of many. So the second part of brand Obama is the idea that we're all connected. If you view Obama as a brand, then it's easy to compare him to Starbucks, which isn't really just a coffee company (it's a lifestyle or experience), or to Apple, which isn't just a computer company (it's a lifestyle or experience), and so on (these are just examples, not endorsements). These brands -- or rather, all successful brands -- say something about you. Voting for Obama, buying Starbucks, buying Apple, etc. ... these choices say something about the individual, and for the Obama brand that "something" is far beyond mere politics.”
