“Not that I am a McCain supporter because I am not, but why must the Huffington Post participate in the chauvinistic behavior exhibited towards femaie candidates? No photos of Palin as Mayor or Governor, just photos of her as a beauty queen. So what is the crime in being a small town girl? Would you show the childhood photos of a male candidate? I think not. I don't understand how Ms. Huffington can call her a feminist and a responsible mother if she is going to use a woman's gender against her. Shame on you for behaving just like a republican.”

“Yes, the issue is bigger than Hillary. Women's issues are consistently ignored by the democrats and republicans. The democrats take for granted the women's vote and when they think they will lose it, they drag out the roe vs wade whip and beat us with it. It is time for women to register as independents and to refuse to give our votes unless we get something that we want in return. Four more years of McCain/Bush might teach the democratic leadership to pay attention to women.”

In this primary battle there was one disenfranchised group that was going to be mightily disappointed--either Afro-Americans or women. Hillary Clinton had everything going for her--except a good campaign strategy. That is no one's fault but her campaign team. That it was so close DESPITE having a poor campaign team shows how many other advantages she had--name recognition, the party establishment, a very popular ex-President hubby, and so on.
Hillary could have swept the primaries if she had, like all the others, owned up to her Iraq War vote being a mistake and apologizing. But, she didn't. That's no one's fault but her own.”

The democratic party is about to lose a huge segment of its membership to the ranks of independent because Obama was too weak to invite Hillary and the interests of those 5 million to the ticket. Obama's ego has got the better of him. He has forgotten the voters. This will cost the party for many generations to come.”

“And what are your interests? Your interests boil down to two things: Make Hillary president, and put Obama back in his place. Your post is an exercise in deceit. The difference between the two candidates' policies was tiny. The ability to get the policies enacted was the difference. Hillary's campaign showed that even with a gigantic lead in name recognition, money, etc., she could not get it done. Same with the health-care issue after Bill was elected. Being a good president means you GET IT DONE. Bush got what he and his people wanted. Even Bill Clinton didn't do that, losing Congress and ushering in the Bush years.”

No man would be ripped to shreads the way she has. Many of you justify your chauvinistic comments by saying it's Hillary's individual fault not because she is a woman. Well that is what is always said when female bashing is going on. The hatred for women in America, the invisibility of 52% of our population, is shameful and may ultimately be the roots of the downfall of America. I don't know of many places where blacks are routinely enslaved (it wasn't just America doing it) but the world is still full of females enslaved from childhood for sex, enslaved by having no rights and being penalized in a burka (like W's buddies in Saudi Arabia. Michelle Obama may be proud of her nation right now but I am ashamed of our country for continuing to polically, economically and socially support the enslavement of women.”

As a woman, I applaud that Hillary Clinton has made a serious run for the Presidency, and I respect her right to finish out the primaries and complete that run. Completing the run will in and of itself be historic.

However, I believe that she should continue toning down her inflamatory language to her supporters in an effort to begin the healing of the divides in the Democratic Party. Also, she should have the grace to bow out after the last of the primaries have been held and there is NO chance of her winning the nomination. By then, FL and MI will have been decided, and there won't be anything left to fight over.”

There are women in all sorts of political offices today, who ran against men and other women, who did not resort to using the gender card when campaigning, who have a real resume, and who did not have numerous "dodging Bosnian sniper fire" moments. People like you hold on to the gender card to play it any time you are our of substantive arguments. No one is permitted to see HRC as the problem without it being in your mind chauvinistic women bashing with no basis but gender preference. The people posting negative items about HRC are in good part female and are doing it because they have decided for reasons other than gender that she is not the person they want for the Dem nominee or as president. But apparently you think they are not entitled to their opinions. Your opinion is the only one that counts and consists of saying that anyone criticizing HRC must hate women and want them in burkas. I submit that it is you who are in the stone age; not the people who do not like HRC SWEETIE.”

“It is ultimately sad that you would feel this way. Any man would have ripped to shred for lying about Bosnia and any man would be ripped to shreds if he claimed that his competency to be President was based on his role as a first husband or a spousal relationship qualified him for the Presidency.

With equality comes the right to be bashed like everyone else. Did you see HIllary ever have to explain her religious beliefs, or talk about her radical ties from the past.? To suggest that she was destroyed by the Press or by male hatred of woman is a stretch one really can't make in the face of the simple fact that she ran a very poor campaign initially; tied her qualifications to her husband; but most important of all, she VOTED FOR THE DAMN WAR AND STILL REFUSES TO ADMIT THAT IT WAS A MISTAKE.”

“I was so horrified by the attacks on Hillary's minister - I mean who cares what her minister says, it should be about her. Obviously sexist.

I was also appalled that the media spied on a private Clinton fundraiser and played recordings of a minor, poorly worded remark that Hillary made - one out of so many eloquent ones over a long campaign. Making a big deal about that proves how sexist the media is. They would never do that to a man.

Meanwhile Obama literally fabricates stories about bringing about peace in Northern Ireland and opening borders in Macedonia and escaping fictitious sniper fire. I mean if that were a woman that would have been the end of her campaign - lying about so many things. More proof of sexism.

Yup, that Hillary had it tough, boy. The media just endlessly talked about Whitewater, Filegate, TravelGate, cheating in the futures market, Vince Foster...boy was she vetted. That's all you heard
for months and months of this campaign. They never treat male candidates like that. I mean just
look at Bill Clinton. Nobody every went after him for anything.”

Uh ugh, a new generation has stepped forward to serve - the boomers in the form of Clinton-Bush neoliberaism have had their chance for the last 16 years, and look what they have wrought.

The torch has been passed.”

BlackLeatherRain replied on May 19, 2008 at 14:59:37

“Glad you can't see past the cleavage, there.

Clinton is criticized for HOW she ran the campaign because she did it so BADLY. I realize that many of her supporters are willing to claim sexism for each and every valid criticism of Clinton's campaign, but let's take a rundown of the Ship of Utter Fail that Clinton has tried to sail to Denver:

1. Clinton hired prominent aides that take significantly different positions on her issues than she wanted her campaign to show (one of her proponents of counting MI & FL actually voted AGAINST counting them when he was given the choice, another worked for a government whose trade proposal she claimed to oppose).
2. Clinton hired a campaign manager who didn't bother to read the rules of the contest (much as she didn't bother to read the NIE - go figure).
3. Clinton's big state strategy was horribly overwhelmed by Obama's 50 state strategy.
4. Clinton's big donor strategy was horribly overwhelmed by the little-man, we all count strategy.
5. Clinton's GOP-Lite campaign (used by NO OTHER MALE campaigners) was detested by Democrats who tired of it with the GOP in 2004.

There are other reasons... not that you'll listen.”

dp54 replied on May 19, 2008 at 14:58:31

“I don't care about the "how" or "what" Hillary does. She is total negativity with her lies, insincerity, selfishness, and it was always about her, not the country, not you or me, it was about her. My criticism of her is the same of any candidate, because leadership, honesty, character, and concern for others is what is required of a person for the highest office in our country. Just because Bush got in without any of these qualities does not mean the requirements for President have changed. People forget about what makes a true leader. She is not it.”

ThunderclapNewman replied on May 19, 2008 at 14:56:39

“The complaints about Hillary's tactics in the campaign have nothing at all to do with her gender.

The complaints have everything to do with Hillary's lack of a moral center that would stop her from doing things that have severely damaged her reputation and Bill's legacy.

Gender is an issue in part because Hillary has repeatedly played the gender card---even whining that the boys were ganging up on her. She has set the women's movement back 20 years with her constant use of the gender card.

While there is no doubt that sexism is a serious problem around the world, you must remember that it was ever thus, and several millenia of sexism won't disappear overnight, or even over a decade or two.

But to say that American women are hated is both hyperbolic and divisive. It is far better to work for equality than to complain and carp about perceived injustices.

You cannot blame anyone but Hillary for the failure of her campaign---she did it with her own little hatchet. Blaming others implies that Hillary isn't capable of making decisions---rightly or wrongly---about her campaign, and that's sexism in a very blatant form.”
