“Please right-wingers... please tell us more about why we can't do the same thing in the United States?

I believe the running argument was that our nation is so much bigger than those who utilize such technology, as if that makes any sense. Even that excuse is now officially shot down.”

Check the voting results from last year. I'm pretty sure the Macon area went for Obama”

“Im in Atlanta. Its a progressive oasis in the sea of deep red south. As more people move here from the north the influence continues to expand.

I'm in Gwinnett County which is the largest in Georgia. I'd say it's about half and half now, although the county went for McCain and the incumbent Congressman (I couldnt pick him out fo a lineup), The side thats closer to Atlanta has more progrressives.

Macon is decent too”

amyhasopinions replied on Dec 27, 2009 at 00:07:21

“I was about to come here and say the same thing, CountryBeforeParty! Atlanta is a blue, progressive island in a sea of red, crazy ocean. I think the incumbent guy for Gwinnett County is John Linder, and I'm always shocked he's not in the news standing right next to Michelle Bachmann when she says something off the wall. I once wrote to him with a concern, and he never responded. But then I started getting all this crazy, pro-life, anti-immigrant, I'm-here-to-represent-YOU propaganda and so I had to email his office and beg them to take me off his mailing list; that I'd no longer be voting for him ever ever again. He represents the opposite of everything I am.

And on a side note, I can't read the Gwinnett Daily Post. It's a progressive citizen's worst nightmare, which makes me too, too sad.

And Macon? Huh, I wouldn't have guessed that. But good for Macon!”

“A lot of Northeasterners, including myself, have moved to the South. The weather is generally nicer, and the cost of living is so much cheaper it's not even funny.

So will Southern states may get more seats, hopefully it will mean more influence for the Progressive movement”

Xarnego replied on Dec 26, 2009 at 19:05:43

“Seems like it all depends on proportions, in cities such as ATL, Charlotte, Chapel Hill, etc. there is a genuine progressive base, other places have entrenched GOP institutional power structures dating to the mass defections of the Dixiecrats to the GOP...

Many nice people in both parts, but there's nothing as surreal as getting a robocall from a paleoconservative southern politician who assumes you are either a red.neck or a good ole boy if european or northern.

My hope is that the exburbs of the major southern cities get bluer, I do not expect the country to go blue, at least not yet, mentally the majority there are still Erskin Caldwell put them in his 1930's novels, in terms of politics...”

“.......see the above response.
But just for your benefit, I will re-post this part from Wiki:

"There is no year 0; AD 1 immediately follows 1 BC."

Your (and skatscan's, and spider9000's) argument implodes and ends right there. Logically, nominally, mathematically and even linguistically, counting from year 0 is not only idiotic, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. That is, unless you learnt your elementary school math from a circus monkey ( actually, scratch that; I think they CAN count), like I said to skatscan,

Next time you might want to pickup a book or 2 or maybe surf some website with real information before exposing the horrible fruits of our "Superior" American education system to the internet and the wworld like that.

And we wonder why they're outsourcing our jobs to India and China. They can still count.”

“Someone needs to tell you that you're wrong

Start from 2000, that's the first year of the decade.”

LaughingMan replied on Dec 12, 2009 at 14:18:45

“No, YOU'RE the one that's wrong.

This decade began at the same time this millennium began - January 1st 2001.

You don't start counting from 0 you start counting from 1. The "0" signifies the '10' at the end of the decade (or the Century and the Millennium, in the case of the year 2000).

It's not rocket science. It's basic Math.”

Vaccination: A Conversation Worth Having

Commented Nov 16, 2009 at 00:07:00 in Living

“It is a good comment, and fair. But here's the thing...

With science there is always risk, nothing is ever 100% effective. So no matter what medicine or vaccine you take, there is always a rosk as to how your body will react.

This is why education is so important. Even on just little things that go a long way. Can either flu shot "hurt" you. Yes. Did you know that if you are allergic to eggs or chicken, you're NOT supposed to get vaccinated? And if you not healthy at the time of the shot, you're not supposed to get it.

If you knew this, that's great. But a lot of people don't know that, and chalk it up to saying "it's all poison". No one is forcing it on anyone. If you don't want to take it, or your child, that's your choice. But this new strain is affecting a lot of children and young adults. It's a tough choice for any parent.”

Nothing like those "marathon" races where one team runs away from the pack, and the race is over by early August.

The wild card is the best thing that happened to the sport in 30 years. More teams have a chance, more fans interested until the very end

And I'm sure Joe DiMaggio would have liked to have the replay a few times. I don't know if he would have liked the expansion teams, Expos fan.”

“Then let's be like Israel and require every one to serve in the military. This way everyone gets health care. Would that be ok? Or would you find another reason to deny it to Americans?

The argument here is not about the military receiving health benefits. It is about every American being able to receive health benefits.

You're question was answered.”

“Ummm yeah, it is the general welfare clause. You don't get to throw the answer out and then ask what the answer is.

And where in the Constitution does it say that we should pay for the health care of the military?”

Lionsden replied on Oct 14, 2009 at 09:51:51

“Country: The federal government has the authority to fund the military and it could be argued that those injured as a result of that power are the responsibility of the federal government vis a vis that enumerated power.

If you have an argument that they shouldn't receive help AFTER the government maimed them, make it.”
