“The police did act stupidly in the case, which was why the charges were dropped when they arrived at the station. To review it from a racial standpoint, can you imagine a prominent WHITE professor being treated this way? The police officers would have been fired!”
Will The Unemployment Disaster Be Obama's Katrina?

“When the house is burning down no one is too concerned with the mess on the lawn. The Obama policies did avert a financial meltdown. Unemployment is high, that is certain, but unemployment was not on the front burner 10 months ago, survival was. Let's give the guys credit for averting the financial meltdown and give him time for phase two, dealing with the unemployment problem.
Rome was not built in a day, Arianna, but it was burning down when Obama arrived. Give the guy a break!”

“The biggest problem with Glenn Beck is that he lies, often and without recourse. When people were shown to be liars in the past, the public abandoned them, but no more. The conspiracy theorist, birther crowd that supports beck believes in alien spaceships kidnapping innocent people and anal probing them.
I suspect in time, the crowds will diminish and Glenn Beck will be a victim of his own folly. Until then, it is wise to pressure advertisers while countering his nonsense with the facts. Free speech is protected, but not free broadcast speech. Broadcast speech requires sponsors.”

Lauralics replied on Nov 22, 2009 at 09:32:13
“The biggest problem for Glen Beck's naysayers is that his "supposed" lies are backed up. I'm not a regular viewer but have tuned in once in a while, the segments I caught shows a very methodical Beck that lays out his observation to the hilt. To top it off, he doesn't even use his words to vilify those he is highlighting, he replays the words of the individual he is talking about. One thing that cannot be denied, if it came out of their mouths and their affiliations are documented, Beck replays them over and over. It's called using their words against them and that is dangerous for "their" agenda, not Beck's.
ps The advertising boycott gives Beck MORE time for his presentations, it is backfiring on all that believe he will be removed.”

“The good news is with the internet and phones you can stay in touch with your kids. Being there for them is everything and letting them FEEL that will win the day for you overtime.
I went through a very bitter divorce and my wife wen to every extreme to alienate my kids from me. At first, it had an impact, but being consistent there for them, in their corner and having a friendly ear won out over time. They are both grown now and we are very close.
Being there is what they will remember. Be there for them, however you can be.”

“Being there has nothing to do with the internet and telephones. Nothing.
Being there is just that being there. When you have no choice the internet and telephones are better than nothing, but if your not part of at least their weekly lives you are not on the same wave length, you do not know their friends and their friends do not know you, and so forth and so on.
There are thousands of fathers out there who society somehow, someway, believes that they do not love their children the same way a mother does. B.S.- is what that is.”

“Simply stated, we need to re-implement something along the lines of Glass Steagal and we need to break up the "too big to fail" financial institutions to get back on track. Derivatives remain in place - and remain a time bomb.
We need real financial reform which hopefully the Obama administration will undertake once the bleeding has stopped. Obama has successfully averted a world wide economic collapse for now, but a lot of change and regulation must be implemented to stop this foolishness from happening again.”

“The decision was that mutually assured destruction was reached, and to continue to build weapons for the hell of it was a dumb economically - something we have yet to come to understand. For all of Russia's problems they have moved well ahead of their 1989 position economically and we have continued to eat ourselves alive.
Until and unless we gain some realistic perspective of our military power and the realities of war and peace, we are doomed to economic disaster and ultimate defeat on both fronts. It would be wise to learn from the Soviet Union's realignment of their priorities.”

One Grizzled Veteran's Dream
Commented Nov 11, 2009 at 15:26:39 in Politics
“While helping a much older WWII veteran move into a new house thirty years, I noticed in one of the boxes a bunch of medals. I asked him about them. They were his. He had never talked about the bravery or the savagery of the battle in Europe he had fought, never mentioned the medals he had won. I asked him about it and he replied, much as you say in your article, he hoped no other men would ever have to fight as he had, ever saw the slaughter he witnessed
We owe a great deal to those who fight and die and those who fight and live. Most of all, we owe them a wish for peace fulfilled. Thank you for reminding us that war should only be fought to end something - aggression - and to restore something - peace.”

Who Caused the End of the Cold War?

“Unemployment is at its highest level since 1983 - when Reagan was president. The Reagan administration presided over the largest tax increase in history - on the middle class - the almost doubling of the social security tax. There were two major recessions during Reagan's Administration, along with the collapse of Savings and Loans and the beginning of the deregulation that lead to this latest disaster.
Reagan gave great speeches and dressed well. His administration, upon closer inspection was a relative disaster that gave us the greatest debt up until that time and the largest tax increase, more corruption on Wall Street until Bush and a failing economy that forced Bush to raise taxes to prevent a collapse.”

“The article makes a stab at the true nature of the Fall of the Berlin Wall - which was a realization that the intense Empire of Russian desire was failing and focusing on domestic needs took on greater importance than striving to be a super power. Gorbachev and Russia made a strategic decision to stop the weapons race and focus on a more sustainable economy.
America is behind the power curve on this decision. We continue o try and dominate the world stage much to our economic demise.
Reagan was a show man, who notice the parade and got in front of it and make a speech. He had nothing to do with the collapse of the Berlin wall than to be at the right place at the right time. Gorbachev had already made the decision.”

Why It's Wrong When Wrongdoers Are Allowed to Admit No Wrongdoing
Commented Nov 09, 2009 at 17:04:30 in Business
“Sadly, this is what passes for justice around the world. The wealthy, when found guilty of committing a crime are slapped on the wrist, given a wink and a nod. Casablanca's famous line that "I am shocked, shocked to find there is gambling going on here" is a prime example. Such as it has ever been.
What happened on Wall Street, and was passed through by Bush and then Obama was the bailout of corruption of monumental proportions. Nothing was done, no one was found guilty of anything.”

His progress after that period will indeed be amazing. Shortfalls? Yes, certainly. But we expected the man to hang the moon. In realistic terms his accomplishments to date have been monumental.”

Breaking Up the Big Banks, and Why Congress Won't Do It

“Of course you are absolutely correct. This awful mess started when Glass Steagal was repealed. Re-instituting Glass Steagal would be tyhe obvious solution. No one does the obvious simple solution in Washington, however. Thus we will screw around dansing around the issue until another financial catastrophe occurs.
We need to realize the solution to the quagmire in Washington DC is to vote the bastards out every two years until we have a whole new congress. It matters little who they are - just get some new blood into Washington. The health care debate has shown conclusively that the old guard has to go!”

“You are so right, I have been saying the same thing and passing it on to as many ppl as possible. If you want to vote democratic, republican or any other that is fine, just vote out the incumbent. If the congress will not pass term limits, the ppl can enact them with their votes if everyone on both sides would just come together on this very idea. In addition I do not see why most of the congressional business cannot be carried out electronically from their home office. It would be a lot less expensive then flying them around the country all the time, and a lot harder for lobbyist and backroom deals if the members were not so accessible in Washington. The business world increasingly runs on "Go To Meeting", why shouldn't Congress set the 'high tech, transparent. low cost, environmentally friendly' example?”

“When their is one conservative TV station, and Six Moderate to liberal stations, you cannot say FOX is winning the ratings war, unless you compare all the liberal stations against the one conservative one.
