GOP, Democratic Senators Agree: Get Swine Flu Vaccination

GOP, Democratic Senators Agree: Get Swine Flu Vaccination

Commented Oct 18, 2009 at 21:27:53 in Politics

“Of course they agree. Want to bet just about every one of them receives beaucoup bucks from Big Pharma, and any of them who don't owe favors to those who do? I'm not saying don't get the vaccine, though I doubt I will (I'm 62), but my older daughter (8 y/o) had it and it lasted for about a week, but the fact that both Dems & Repubs can agree on this is certainly not persuasive either way as far as I'm concerned. They're all in the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies. Do your own research. Make up your own mind. Caveat emptor!”

“I have had health insurance through my company for years and hardly ever used it, though my wife and kids have. Just last month I was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma and had no choice but to opt for a surgical and nuclear medicine procedure that excised some of the affected skin and a couple of lymph nodes that might have been implicated. Thankfully, everything went without a hitch, including coverage and payment. I am now cancer free and intend on pursuing a lifestyle that will go the farthest I can to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Don't think because you've been healthy all your life you will remain that way. I'm 62 and hardly ever get so much as a cold, but this could have killed me. I'm glad I was covered and feel for those who may find themselves in the same position with nothing.

Single Payer!!!!”

“Glad to hear it. You obviously have a good plan, as I did the last time I had major surgery (1998) when everything was covered. Now I have copays, a deductible, and a $1000 or $2000 maximum out of pocket cost - still better than a lot of people have, but I don't know how I'd pay that if I got something serious that necessitated my going on disability or something.”

They'd sing along - but, before doing any singing, they'd want to check the lyrics and make sure all "liberal" passages had been stricken from the song.”

“What I have to say about Sean Hannity wouldn't possibly get past the HuffPo censors, so I will merely leave it to your imagination. I'm just going to patiently wait for enough people in this country to get fed up and decide it's time to take care of business. That and remain politically active and involved, and donate money to the people fighting against ignorance, intolerance, and hatred.”

As long as religion exists and people believe in a higher, anthropomorphic consciousness, I would argue humanity is still in its intellectual and spiritual infancy.”

Intelligent Design, Online Edition

Commented Aug 07, 2009 at 00:23:43 in Politics

“I have an almost six-year-old daughter who we adopted at 33 months from China. She was obviously neglected and traumatized and had learned to fend for herself. She was (and is) a survivor. It made her difficult to teach because experience had shown her, even before she could really speak (Cantonese, let alone English), she could trust no one. However, nearly three years later, she's become more receptive to reality and is far more teachable. These people are all ostensibly intelligent adults. What's their excuse?”

pauw replied on Aug 07, 2009 at 11:05:58

“Ego and fear of being wrong. When one builds his/her entire identity around a single thing, such as the literal interpretation of a religious text, intelligent discourse tends to go out the window because the person is fighting for their very identity instead of arguing or debating.”

Your son is wise beyond his years. Best post on this thread! You are so right.

Republican answers to this program just boil down to their inherent rac ism and superiority complexes.

If it's giving a break to working families it's "redistribution of wealth" but to give huge tax breaks, oil subsidies and the like to big business it's "growing wealth" (even though we've been giving these breaks for years and we STILL seem to be in high unemployment?-LOL)”

“I gave up on baseball in 1994, when the game (excuse me, the owners and players) showed their disrespect for the fans by allowing their disputes over money to cancel the world series. I've been to maybe 3 or 4 games since, but only because someone else had already purchased tickets. I don't watch on TV and I don't listen on radio except (god help me) sometimes I watch the world series. I grew up playing baseball and deeply loved the game. Still do, to some extent. I just can't seem to forgive what is now mostly a business, not a sport, for what it did all those years ago.”
