“Yes, beloved, I read the article. Let me ask you this? Is taking away guns the logical solution? If so, how wise is that? If it became unlawful to carry a gun, how many of these types of situations do you believe that action would mitigate? Whether we like it or not, guns serve a purpose, beloved. You can thank the forefathers for that one. To rid ourselves of them now would only make us sitting ducks for the enemies abroad. And trust me, they are just waiting for us to do so. I am merely suggesting that those who are in authority to enforce the law, should be more vigilant about carrying that authority out. Please refer to the reply I responded to seaboardstation. Law enforcement officials are on watch. Therefore, they should be more watchful.

Another thing, "the article" may well have said that he didn't make it through the metal detector, but if I recall the article was shared from another source. They don't have anymore information than you and I. Neither of us know whether or not he made it through. However, I am certain that if someone on duty was more observant of what was going on at the time, he wouldn't have taken out 3 people. That's a fact. ”

“Understandable, but minor details. The fact still remains that law enforcement are trained to be vigilant. Whether a shooter makes it past security or not. When I was in the Navy, we were put on watch to ensure that nothing outside of the norm happened. You know what we did in these instances... we watched. ”

“This really has nothing to do with gun control laws, as much as it has to do with law enforcement being more vigilant on the job. Blame is not the intention here... just saying. How can anyone other than enforcement and officials be allowed to get through the front door of any government building without setting off some type of alarm. Perhaps, instead of making stricter gun laws, we need better equipment that informs the law enforcers that a gun is present. Just a thought.”

Rosejunkie on Feb 11, 2013 at 15:55:22

“The metal detector normally sits right inside the entrance. I don't know how you could do it any other way. So many thing are metal, everyone would be going off if it was on the door. Besides he would have shot them if they had been outside and possibly got away. This is what I do for a living, I spend 5 days a week in uniform waiting for some stupid *** to come in firing. I don't have an answer......The metal detector will go off if you have gum wrapped in foil. If you have an idea let me know, I sit behind a metal detector and x-ray machine 5 days a week until the court rooms are empty. Lets thank the 2 officers that stopped the shooter, Thank you.....”

Attilatheblond on Feb 11, 2013 at 15:30:26

“To be fair, we need to recognize that the security checks are a few feet inside the doors in most courthouses. Not AT the doors, which would be a logistic nightmare. The shooter was reported to have been in the public part of lobby, where people generally wait to pass through the metal detectors, and people exit the building.

Now, can law enforcement be better? Probably. I was in line at a courthouse security checkpoint and saw some pretty dense security people at work (rent-a-cops, not real law enforcement officers). There was a big trial involving some gang members charged with murdering several people going on. The rent-a-cops stopped three young men with gang tats when they set off the metal detector alarms. The young men explained the reason the machine bleeped was that they were wearing steel-toed work boots. Rent a cops nodded, APOLOGIZED for delaying them and sent them on without passing a wand or patting them down. The rest of us in line had some real qualms about going any further into the courthouse and a couple called the guards out on their negligence, which only got a shrug from the 'officers'. Yeah, they could be more diligent, but there is always lobby space before one reaches the checkpoints.”

brownie56 on Feb 11, 2013 at 15:17:50

“he was in the lobby been there more than once the lobby is open then when inside u pass through metal detectors”

jazabelz on Feb 11, 2013 at 15:14:43

“Did you read the article? Once in the lobby, everyone has to go through the metal detectors. Most buildings are like this -- I suppose you could have the metal detectors at the doors into the building, but in that case, the shooter merely would have waited on the steps -- so your logic still doesn't work. More guns does not equal more safety.”

elogco on Feb 11, 2013 at 15:14:05

“Yes, I would agree. The problem is these deaths by gunfire are endemic in this country. It's directly a result of the gun culture that not only interprets gun ownership as a fundamental right but also popularizes gun violence in every media outlet known. A push back must gather momentum in order to expose the dangers to public safety such attitudes pose.”

Stickman125 on Feb 11, 2013 at 15:13:51

“Or both!”

DarrylBrowne on Feb 11, 2013 at 15:13:26

“Stricter laws and greater scrutiny is the answer, not your mamby-pamby "better equipment" idea! The equipment was there, the shooter started shooting before he went threw it. Can you read? There are far too many crazies carrying guns legally in the US. There have been multiple and mass shootings on a regular basis ever since the massacre in Sandy Hook. There is little to no defense left for gun mongerers. Face reality! People who have guns kill!”

How To Not Sabotage Yourself

How To Not Sabotage Yourself

Commented Feb 10, 2013 at 08:24:11 in Healthy Living

“Great advice! The reality of it is that we are the masters of our own fate. It won't be easy, but we must remind ourselves that it will definitely be worth it. Oftentimes, we sabotage ourselves by thinking we must achieve perfection. Perfection is a deadly delusion. Master thyself, and the delusion will cease to be a target we aim for in life. I find that whenever I allow myself to get into that zone, telling myself to "Get Real" puts things back in perspective for me. Mindfulness is definitely the key to not sabotaging ourselves. Thanks for sharing this with us.”

Tennessee 'Don't Say Gay' Bill Is Back, Now Requires Teachers To Tell Parents If Child Is Gay

Commented Jan 31, 2013 at 08:24:22 in Gay Voices

“I wish all of these hateful people with their own agendas professing to be "Christlike" would be called up and sent to their own little make believe world of perfection.

What a ludicrous, prejudice, hateful idea! No wonder our school systems are falling so far behind! Teach! That's all our teachers are responsible to do. Not patrol how many little boys are playing with too many little girls, or how many little girls are climbing trees. This is why I believe it's so important that we have a better system of finding out whether someone has tendencies of being a "nutcase" before we give them power to make our laws.

That has to be the most foolish bill yet! Not saying the word, "gay, gay, gay, gay, gay," (sorry, had to say it a few times) isn't going to somehow make it magically disappear. These lawmakers will see this when their son and daughter becomes old enough to resent them for trying to change something they simply cannot change. Then their kid will probably be the one who buys a gun and shoot up groups of people because their politician parent made their life a living hell.

The "powers that be" need a nice serving of humility from the only Power that ever will be. The One that created "gays" in the first place. Do they not know that God loves the "weak," the "last," and the "rejected." Helloooooo! That has "the gays" all over it! :))”

Hats off to each of them. Wishing each of them the best... Rest on, dear Amy.”

“When will we get the big picture and begin treating one another with love, respect, and compassion. It seems to me that the powers that are in place need to get a clue and protect all "human rights" and not just their right to be reelected or reappointed. “Well said. Let's just hope SCOTUS goes the distance and rules Nationwide Marriage Equality in June.

Even then though there will be people fighting harder to get a US Constitutional amendment to overturn SCOTUS but they will never get 3/4 of the states to ratify the amendment. Unforunately though just by them pushing the issue, we'd still end up having to spend time and money fighting that too.

Sadly it just seems many people out there are just determined to never let go of their bigotry and hatred.”

“Here's an idea: Let's just do away with every label, stereotype, and title there is, altogether!

After that's been done, then we can start an all inclusive church of no specific religion. We can call our church, "Life!" The church motto, "Live and Let Live." There would be only one rule... The Golden Rule. Don't do anything to anyone that you wouldn't want done to you. There would be no need for a building, per say. We are living, breathing, temples that have been masterfully designed. Therefore, wherever we go, we are already attending church.”
