“PETA lost me over the Pres. Obama vs. fly incident. I used to be sympathetic. Animal rights lost a crucial ally when whomever is guiding PETA ran the organization off the road. I wouldn't give PETA a penny these days.”

“You need not give PETA any money or any attention at all. It's easy to walk into your supermarket and tell the manager and the meat manager in a friendly and concerned fashion that you and your family don't buy anything that started out as an animal raised on a factory farm.
When our supermarket started carrying a small number of free-range meats and dairy products, we thanked them for contributing to our health and well-being. They have since expanded, and lots of people in our community are now buying free-range. I still give our appreciation regularly to this supermarket and its parent chain. We can now get free-range turkeys every Thanksgiving -- turkeys who lived comfortably naturally, and died with very little trauma. The practice of promoting the right to a comfortable existence for all creatures will benefit you and your family. There is no good future to fostering cruielty.”

“oldGunny, you and me both. I'm staying! And what we need is for there to be a Constitutional Convention to amend our dysfunctional constitution. I'd also like to see fewer initiatives, all of which tend to be sponsored by special interests, some with seeming good ideas but no idea how to pay for them. When these interests can't persuade the legislature to do their bidding, we get the signature gatherers standing outside my favorite supermarket and yours telling us why we need to get Proposition X passed, but failing to say how we will pay for it after it passes. Participatory democracy gone amok.”

“I fail to see the connection between western cities that depend on water from far away and green jobs. For example, Los Angeles depends on water delivered by an elaborate system of canals from northern parts of the state. Actually, the way the water is delivered is pretty green. Also, the city has stringent--and I mean stringent--water use regulations that reward conservation and punish waste and overuse. People in Orange Co., just south of Los Angeles, are the leaders in using brown water and even cleaned up sewage water for all uses, including, drinking! The most surprising statistic for California is that, as a whole, the state uses the same amount of energy it used in 1978 even though the populations had more than doubled. No other state can claim those bragging rights--none.”

The Republicans have convinced the majority of white church goers that Democrats are the spawn of Satan. In addition, church members listen to their pastors slyly endorse the Republican. I guess its because the only really progressive areas of Georgia are the city of Atlanta and Athens. Atlanta, a relatively small in population city, is ringed by heavily Republican suburbs.
