“I am VERY FAR LEFT, but I agree 100%. Children need discipline. And spanking is a legitimate form of discipline for children who have not yet developed reasoning. You cannot nor should reason with a 3 year old.”

“That's what I say too... and I hate when parents say, "I pick my battles".. In my world, unless the child has a job and is paying for stuff under my roof.. there are no battles to pick.. I am the parent. People think parents need to let their children express themselves.. I'm for that...but respectfully and within the rules of MY house. Expression and respect are two different things. Kids today don't have respect because parents often allow disrespectful actions and say, "Oh, he's just expressing himself." Please with that crap. I want my children to respect others and that starts at respecting ME. Teaching right and wrong, there are adults who aren't always "good ones", tell me anything if something happens, that goes along with it. But I will be respected in my own home, especially by a child. Period. That's how I am with mine, and that's how I am with anyone else's who visit me. That's how it used to be, and there were VERY FEW teenage school shootings and mass murders. But guess I'm getting old. :)”

Otherwise he will face the same criticisms that Giuliani did a few years back--- that he is a "so-called Rhino." My prediction? He will start distancing and then publicly bashing Obama next. The fact is, this just shows what measure of a man Christie is; he is only concerned with his own political future.”

The modern day Republican party, especially in the South, has inherited their bigotry with none of their good.”

“The major reason why younger men (usually) stop chasing older women: Biology. Whilst a 50 year old man can easily have children with a 20 year old woman, due to biology, the reverse is nearly impossible, and definitely improbable. I am a good looking 30 year old man, when I was 20, 25 even, I hooked up with and dated women almost exclusively in the 35+ age range; even to this day, I would rather have a conversation with a woman older than me. That said, I am at a point in my life now where I want to settle down, and that means having children, and that is not likely to happen with an older woman. This is why these relationships are less likely to succeed in the long run, than the reverse.”

ebner on Jul 24, 2013 at 22:01:42

“Just because an older man can have kids doesn't mean that is in the best interest of society. It means many kids have to deal with an aging father prematurely, grandkids won't have grandfathers, and don't even get me started on all the birthdefects it causes. An old man with a young woman has never been nature's will. In a way, older women with younger men is a better option- they can adopt unwanted children instead of the older man creating children to allay his desperate fear of aging.”

“The real problem is this "free trade" concept. All "free trade" does is exploit the working class. From 1880 to 1914, the US had a protected economy- and the largest (as a percentage) of immigrants in history. Immigrants came here, took jobs, and this in turn created more demand for more products. Both political parties have ignored the real problem- NAFTA, GATT, the UN- because they have personally become enriched and empowered by these nonsenical debates on things that don't matter. ”

“Companies do this all the time; Black folks were the original cheap labour, followed by the Irish, the Italians, and now, Hispanics and Asians. This is why our current immigration system is broken. The powers that be are opposed to the legalization of immigration, because legal immigrants demand and recieve the same pay rates and legal protections as native-born Americans. As long as immigrants remain illegal, they have little access to legal remedy- if these had been illegal immigrants, they would never have been able to complain in the first place. If America really cared about reducing illegal immigration, we would fine and imprison the business people that hire and exploit these people, not the poor person trying to survive in this world. ”

“This was a good introduction to American culture:
1) They learned that our nation is built upon the backs of the poor, especially immigrants and minorities.
2) They learned that if you own a business, you can treat your employees any way you want, and that the average customer doesn't give a damn as long as they get their "Dollar Deal."
3) They learned that corporations have more rights than people do.
McDonalds did a good job of showing these students how "wonderfull" America really is, and how great it is to live in a country with no price controls, no unions, no benefits, and essentially worthless labor laws.”

“A similar incident occured for me and my roomate (who is on food stamps) today when we went to our Publix market here in Murfreesboro, TN. She had three dollars left remaining on her food stamp card, and we were buying twelve dollars in groceries. The employee (a 70 something year old woman) gave us an attitude when we asked to do a split pay (that is pay the balance in cash). Those who know me know I dont take any crap, so after our food was paid for, I said that Id much rather have the six years back of my life that I gave to the government, than a measly hundred bucks a month in food stamps. Conservatives have no problem in giving billons to the banking industry, but when it comes to people recieving a couple of hundred bucks a month to help them survive, then they complain.”

Mandatory Gun Ownership Provisions Under Consideration In Communities Across The Country

Mandatory Gun Ownership Provisions Under Consideration In Communities Across The Country

Commented Mar 9, 2013 at 12:42:54 in Politics

“I have to disagree with that statement. I live in North Dakota, which has some of the loosest gun laws in the country, and some of the lowest crime rates (murder rate is 2.0 per 100k, compared to 5.1 avg, and 5.4 in CA/4.0 in NY; overall rate is 200.5, compared to 467.2 overall). Gun laws neither reduce nor increase crime; crime is reduced when people have economic opportunity AND "breathing space". In fact, the only states with lower murder rates than ND were MN, ME, UT, IO and VT- states with relatively loose gun laws.”

5oclockhero on Mar 9, 2013 at 12:59:02

“That may be so. Regardless, though, most of America's safest towns of population similar to Kennesaw's are in states that enforce relatively strict gun control.”

“The root of crime, in any community or culture or nation, has absolutely nothing to do with the tools used to commit said crimes. In 1900, the majority of prison inmates in New York state were Irish, Italians, and Jews! Why? Those were the groups of people most likely to live in inner-city ghettos; Harlem was a much nicer neighborhood at that point in time than Hells Kitchen (the Irish slum), i.e. Laco of oppurtunity causes some people to react with violence; American society teaches children that in order to be a man, one must have a nice car, nice house, gorgeous wife, etc. The two ways to get this are either to earn it, or to steal it; and many poor children, whether they are black folks from Detroit or white folks from the backwoods of Alabama, find that the only option to them is to steal it. Crime and violence will continue to be a problem as long as society creates wants amongst its people that these people have no way to fulfill.”

whatever97 on Mar 8, 2013 at 20:34:18

“Poor white people ARE MUCH LESS likely to be in jail than poor black ones IN ANY state that has adequate numbers of both. Part of this is indeed because poor white people are more likely to be so temporarily rather than as part of a multi-generational "culture", but even so, the point remains, race is MORE important than poverty, since it STILL tends to CAUSE poverty. In EVERY recession including this one, black unemployment is SIGNIFICANTLY higher. This is by definition disproportionately happening to black workers WHO HAD a job and a work ethic.
"Culture" DOESN'T explain or excuse THAT.”
