“I am not sure that he wants to do this, but I do feel that he believes that it is in the best interest of the nation. Does he have misgivings? Yes. As late as last week, he was still considering either keeping the same number of troops or beginning to reduce our footprint. He had no good choices, but given all the information, he determined that with Pakistan being the most dangerous area in the world, it would be irresponsible to abandon Afghanistan to the Taliban.”

In my BLACK family we have 2 children....one black and the other of mixed race that have been adopted by my neice and her husband and another by my nephew and his wife in the last 6 years. We love both of these children and they are wonderful additions to our family! I have other friends that have similar familia experiences. Oh...but we aren't rich...just caring .

“Another pet peeve for African-Americans seems to be movies like "Precious". Some are saying that the film is exploitive (i.e. "The Color Purple"). I don't care! I thought that "Precious" was wonderful and I wish that more people would add this movie to their "must see" list. I am planning to see "The Blind Side" this week. I saw the "Making of The Blind Side" on HBO and I know that this is something that I want to see. But, to each, his own. (Alice Walker, the author of "The Color Purple" was a college classmate of mine.......her real life wasn't very easy and I can see some of her reality in the book and movie. People can call these movies "exploitative" if they wish, but life happens to all of us, whether we are black/white/rich/poor or whatever.)”

“In Atlanta we have several sites (like Hosea Feed the Hungry) that feed the homeless on Thanksgiving. They are always in need of volunteer helpers ( people to prepare and serve the meals). Often people who help others, get a lot out of doing this and they also often realize that life isn't so bad.....and it isn't, if you have your health and a roof over your head. Don't stay home, find a place where you can volunteer....and when you finish, enjoy the food too!”
