“You know, seems the GOP is making a big deal over this because they say it was a photo for Runners World magazine and that Newsweek was wrong to use the photo that was meant for another publication.

I don't know much about copyrights and fair use like the others on here, but as a former track athlete I'm a skeptic that she's a regular jogger. She hast little to no muscle definition in her legs.”

“....do you not use common sense? it must allude you...

why on earth would a guy look up this research and find this man and accuse him of war crimes if he was innocent?.......Adolf Storms admitted he was in the SS...he just didnt admit to the crimes, because he cant "remember" them...what are the odds of finding a man who was in the SS alive after finding his name in a pile of research that accuses him of war crimes? im guessing fairly slim. Nobody would accuse him of crimes if they didnt believe they were true and didnt have evidence. He needs to be put on trial, age is no a factor to escaping the murder of dozens of people.”

“Well prepare to have your hopes crushed.

I'm not a lawyer, but I can tell you this. Heresay isn't something which is immediately stamped EVIL and tossed out of courtrooms like children with their heads spinning. There are many exceptions to it and I'm pretty sure that prior testimony in a trial is one of those exceptions.

The whole point of the heresay rule is to make sure people swear publicly to their testimony and get cross examined by someone with an interest in discrediting their testimony. Just because that happened in another court, and now the person is dead, doesn't magically null and void what was perfectly valid evidence in another trial. You don't just erase history because the person isn't there to testify.

Do you know something I don't from the article? I'm seeing "witness testimony" and "documents linking." When you suspect someone of a crime, based on admissible evidence, and you fulfill the requirements for an indictment isn't the next logical step to have a trial to determine whether that evidence is indeed to strong enough to prove guilt to the appropriate standard of the court?”

“Hey Sarah, why did you agree to have your picture taken in that fashion if you deem it to be sexist? Isn't that like going to bar, getting drunk and blowing all of your money only to complain about it the next morning and blame it on the bartender?

Nobody forced you to take that picture.”

“Newsweek bought that photo from "stock" from the photographer who took it for "Runner's World."

Newsweek is supposed to be a legit magazine that discusses real issues in a "fair and balanced" way.

This is clearly partisan on the part of Evan Thomas (who famously once said Barack Obama is like a God floating above us) and he and the entire staff at Newsweek should be embarrassed.”

“The medical center ultimately was going to write it off the last I heard. And they had paid for all of the previous ones. And they were especially supposed to pay for this one as the doctor ordered it to be done that way. Specifically writing that he was to be transferred by ambulance to the hospice care facility. My father died of congestive heart failure and was obviously in the end stages of it when this all happened. He was so weak he couldn't even stand without assistance, couldn't breathe without assistance and if not for the pacemaker and defibrilator he had in his chest, it's likely he wouldn't have lasted as long as he did. And during that last hospital stay is when he requested the no-revive orders along with shutting off the defibrilator. Which that was another reason for the ambulance request, they thought it was very possible he might not survive the transfer to the other facility. I don't know all of the details, I'd have to ask my mom about it sometime, but BCBS was trying to deny everything because they claimed medicare wasn't upholding their end of the bargain but they were.”

“I'm glad I live in the USA where hearsay is enough to get someone accused of this. Funny how it is that the only evidence they have against this man is the fact that someone mentioned his name just once in all of the many decades of exhaustive research and analysis and witness testimony.

To me this simply sounds like a lust for vengeance as they do not mention one actual proof that the man did anything. Being a German during WWII didn't automatically mean everyone participated in everything. Just look at us, I have nothing to do with what Bush did while President so why should I be charged?”

OmegaHunter replied on Nov 18, 2009 at 03:16:09

“You didn't actually read the article all that carefully.

It was a witness to the murders that mentioned him by name.

The student interviewed Storm before going to the authorities. Storm did not deny that he killed anyone. Instead he repeatedly insisted that he didn't REMEMBER the killing.

Isn't that odd. If I was being asked if I killed 57 people in some woods I think I could come up with something other than "I don't remember killing anyone."

And that wasn't the only incident that someone said he murdered people. The very next day he is accused of having killed another Jew who couldn't continue on a forced march.”

roshni replied on Nov 17, 2009 at 22:38:18

“Have you read somewhere that he won't get a fair trial??
It is simpleminded to say that every German is being accused by hearsay.
He should be tried if there is enough evidence and convicted if that is the case.”

atomic replied on Nov 17, 2009 at 22:38:13

“I see you are clueless in this area ... and perhaps you did not read the article .... it said that they would have to investigate further for the evidence before he can be prosecuted ... now if you knew anything about what Hitler and the Germans did to the Jews you would know that ever since there has been efforts to bring the most horrific war criminals to justice .... almost all of them that got away assumed new identities and pretended to be normal people living for years doing menial jobs and blending in. This is nothing new and he may turn out not to be the guy but the crimes from that period are so gruesome that any normal person can get behind what ever it takes to unearth these human killing machines.”

“Typical Republicans. Can't speak or write for themselves so they hijack other peoples ideas and works to call their own.”

pearlx2 replied on Nov 18, 2009 at 00:08:21

“That's it -- Republicans apparently have very short attention spans, so they don't read anything substantive, which probably explains why they don't usually have any facts to back up their off-the-wall points of view; they rely almost exclusively on talking points from Karl Rove-types; and when they do try to stray off the reservation with words, they are usually copying someone else's material.

It's so universal among that Party -- you see the same thing from the Republican Congress people, Sarah Palin, and people like Elizabeth Hasselback; I can't stand to listen to any Republican, because every time they open their mouths, they are lying -- or making no sense whatsoever. I usually mute my t.v. when Elizabeth speaks on the View.”

“Interesting, we had the very same thing with a local Republican district attorney for the county I live in.

He was making an election year name for himself by going after people sending their kids to school outside the designated school zones. Wanting to charge them with felonies and other crimes. Already has two families slated to go to trial over it.

Then a funny thing happened. The news media started doing it's job. They asked the Republican district attorney if he would charge himself with the same crime as his daughter was going to a school outside the school zone, in violation of the very same laws he was using against other familiies?

He gave the typical Republican response saying that he was above the law and then went further to state that he was doing it for his daughters safety, that someone might kidnap her if she went to the one high school instead of another because it was somehow less secure.

Republican hypocrisy knows no boundaries.”

“You know, I might not post much anymore as 90% of the crap that goes on these days isn't worth commenting on anymore. But I still come by every day and read. I still have friends that express their frustration of how they keep posting and posting and trying to be heard, but never are. I guess that's why I am mostly retired from the blogging world anymore, because I lost faith in my fellow citizens to give a damn.

And I can honestly say one thing as a former reader of Gung Ho and Soldier of Fortune magazines as teen, signed up for the military still in high schooll, pledged to give my life for my country in the misguided belief that it would somehow make a difference and I was trying to do my civic duty and vote in every single election as soon as I turned 18.... and for what? For the crap we have now?

This is America, it used to mean something. It used to stand for something. And yet we still have so much that not one person should have a want or need for anything in America. Yet, it's capitalism that is denying everything to us, be it healthcare coverage, ability to travel, own a home or even seizing property that was actually paid for. I dare you to stop paying taxes on land you own. Watch how fast it is seized from you.”

“I have BCBS myself and don't trust it anymore. I've had small things denied already over the past couple of years. My problems are nothing compared to what are outlined in the article above. I really feel for these people because of what they must be going through. I've already suffered the indignity of a few things from BCBS, such as denied treatments or their refusal to pay a doctor visit.

Probably the worst thing I've experienced with them is how they treated our family after my father passed away. Suddenly they didn't want to pay ANY of his bills. They even sent my mom a $1500 bill for the ambulance for transferring my father from the medical center to a hospice where he spent his last 2 weeks alive. BCBS refused to pay for that bill claiming it was unncessary. They even went so far as to say we should have transferred him there in our own vehicle. HOW?? How are we going to fit IV's and oxygen machines and other stuff into a family car in order to transfer him, most especially how were we to carry him to the car in the first place?

That is pretty ruthless. It's one thing that they mess with me, but quite another when they start messing with a helpless parent in the final days of their life.”

“That just shows you how ignorant American sports fans are. They think the NFL is a worldwide sport. It's not. It's a very small regional sport even in North America. While it is our national sport, most people outside of the US don't follow it or even probably know it exists.

Now, if you were to ask Montoya if he had ever heard of names like Dan Gurney or Pele or Phil Hill, he would say yes. Funny, most Americans don't even know who Dan Gurney is, or Phil Hill, sadly. Both were international motorsport legends, admired around the world. Phil Hill was America's first World Champion in racecars, capturing the World Title in Formula One with Ferrari in 1961.
