Seems to me if you look at it long enough, it's this impulse to feel or appear superior to other people that drives a lot of people to adopt irrational belief sets...a need for elitism in which they are the elect kind of neurosis/sociopathy. There should be a clinical name for it, probably is but I don't know it. Anyone who claims moral authority to condemn the actions of others has but one set of rules they must be held to- their own. Participating in the reprehensible circus they made of the Clinton scandal, actually impeaching a sitting president over it, and wasting the public's time, money and trust was the real embarrassment- not the foibles of an all-too-human president. The "special" moral status of these hypocrites comes from a self-delusion that their belief systems enable and encourage, and has been at the root of most of the problems of western civilization for the last millenium! These people deserve neither our respect or our silence on these matters. I'm sick to death of being told we have to tread lightly around the "rights" of these pseudochristians, or pretend that their irrational beliefs somehow have any legitimacy, when simple common sense and experience tells us otherwise. He has no choice but to resign, by his own standards. Let's see if he really has the strength of his convictions, or is just another lying, reprehensible neocon.”

When Jesus was asked what the most important commandment was, he stated very clearly it was Love- and to love each other means not to kill, not to bear false witness(lying) and all the laws and the prophets...This aspect of Christianity is something we could sure use today in our country. It's also an aspect of just about all other religions. I see nothing wrong with using these moral guidelines to live your life, as long as the discipline stops at the end of the nose of the believer. Most sensible people reject the fairy tales of Intelligent Design and the thinly veiled hatred of others who are different that some religions/preachers espouse. Bringing them into the Obama camp is just another example of Obama's practical sensibility of the pluralist nature of our republic- no one should be excluded who respects the rights of others, regardless of their own beliefs.
