Conservatives and Off-Base Lefties: Can You Top This?
Commented Oct 12, 2009 at 03:08:52 in Politics
“Solar PowerGuy, did you perchance read the citation provided by the Nobel Committee when they announced the prize? I think that as far as they are concerned being elected was accomplishment enough to earn the recognition. The Daily Mail in London nailed it. OBAMA GOT THE PEACE PRIZE FOR NOT BEING GEORGE W. BUSH.”

“"OBAMA GOT THE PEACE PRIZE FOR NOT BEING GEORGE W. BUSH."
Isn't that SNL's punchline this week?
Hillary Clinton is not Bush, either. During the primaries, she tried to paint Obama as too dovish. If Hillary had become President -- would she deserve the Nobel Peace Prize?
What about a perennial voice of conscience who never stood a chance of winning the Presidency, like Dennis Kucinich? Why not give him the award? In fact, why didn't he win in 2008, or even earlier, when he was better-known than Obama?
For that matter, you and I are also not George W. Bush, I bet that neither of us ever gave two seconds of thought to voting for him. Are we eligible for the Nobel Peace Prize?
Sorry, winning elections is what all politicians do. Making genuine peace: that is what STATESMEN do. I dearly hope to see Obama do just that. As yet, it has been nothing more than campaigning and words. Democrats are very good at those.
I also know, and so should you, that Democrats never seem to see a GOP demand that they don't feel compelled to accommodate. Look at Obama's votes as a Senator, look at his Cabinet, look at Iraq, Guantanamo, Afghanistan, ICAT non-compliance, etc. Then tell me, aren't you remotely concerned that Obama will turn out just like every other prominent Democrat?
The Nobel Committee should have waited until 2013.”
