10 Time-Saving Kitchen Tools Everyone Needs

Commented Aug 22, 2012 at 21:02:49 in Taste

“I agree with most of these, though they are pretty mainstream. I think most folks have scissor and prep bowls (but I could be wrong...) I like this list of that next group of kitchen gadgets that help you save time. These are things that you may not have thought of but once you own them you can't believe you ever lived without them. Happy cooking!

“School lunch is tricky. You want to make it healthy (or at least semi-healthy) but you don't want it to be so bland that your child throws it away and eats another kid's chips. I found this great list of ideas to make lunches more fun. These are all easy things that any busy mom can take a couple of minutes to do.

“Fun post. Totally resonates with me since I have NO style and yet have a 4 year old daughter who has been very specific about her style since age 2-3. It cracks me up how she lays out her clothes and thinks about what jewelry or berets will go with them. I did a whole list / blog post about her picks. Again - I'm not serious about this...its more entertaining than anything else!

Women Engineers Trace Tech Gender Gap To Childhood

“As a women who has tended to work in male-dominated fields (first finance and now technology), this article resonates with me. As a girl I was very into math, science and building. I played with my brother's LEGO way more than he did. I loved puzzles and problem solving and always knew I was good at math and science. I was lucky to have a father who nurtured these skills and confidence in me.

Now I have a daughter of my own and I hope to spark those same interests in my daughter. I think it starts young so I pulled together this list of tips, toys and ideas on getting (and keeping) girls interested in STEM.

“I agree with the comment below - if I go out for ice cream I'm not thinking its healthy...I'm just enjoying a treat. If you want healthier summer treats, you probably need to make them yourself. I found this list good for healthier alternatives to ice cream or popsickles. They are targeted at kids but I would enjoy most. And so easy to make!

“Thanks for the link. And most men would find this obvious/sadly confirmatory.”

Terence Manuel on May 28, 2012 at 21:43:58

“Thanks for the data link.

I really wonder what percentage of those "thousands" of women were married. A plurality of women indicated they were having sex 2-3 times per week. I find that stat to be quite high for married women.

I do not find the number neither shocking nor sad. They are simply a reflection of reality.

“Thanks for the link.

I'm a male and my whole life I've been told that "women want sex as much as men do."

By my own observation of over 50 years, I've never believed that statement. Sexual urgency is much stronger in males than in females.”

“Yikes - all this talk and these articles scare me. And I'm not normally much of a worrier about such things. I don't eat a ton of processed food but I do eat out a fair bit - at fairly nice restaurants not fast food. I was also freaked out a little by this list of "Secrets Restaurants Never Want You to Know" although other people have told me it's not all true. Who has worked in restaurants - any thoughts?

“I'm in agreement that I was not surprised that most of these foods are super salty. Personally I love salty things and I particularly love Salt & Vinegar potato chips (I'm Canadian where that flavor is big.) I am trying to cut back on salty foods and on potato chips in general. So rather than share foods with more salt, here are some alternatives you may not have thought of. They still satisfy that need for salt & crunch but are far healthier.

I enjoyed many of these as a girl or women and look forward to reading them with her. So here they are - maybe a whole other post for HuffPo:

“This reminds me of a great post that a friend wrote on the whole toddlers being kicked off a plane. As she puts it, better to sit near a crying toddler or an obnoxious drunk? I'd take option A. Though in reading about this recent incident, I think the kids (especially an 8 year old) are beyond being uncontrollable toddlers.

Soda's Health Risks: How Bad Is It Really?

Commented Mar 15, 2012 at 16:38:19 in Healthy Living

“As someone who *used to* drink 6-8 (or more) cans of Diet Coke per day, I am well aware of the ill effects of soda consumption. To kick start things, I first pulled together a list of facts (mostly scary) and blog posts on soda addiction. Some good reading here for those interested:
