“They cut food stamps and meals on wheels so the old folks and kids of the low wage workers can go hungry.
They're looking to cut Social Security so the old folks who paid into it can be homeless as well.
But there's always money to start a new war someplace on the globe, and fire million dollar a pop Tomahawk missiles at some village in the middle of nowhere and probably wipe out a bunch of civilians.
I am just SO PROUD to be an American- NOT.”
“Since the "person" is incapable of survival without utilizing the womb of the woman carrying it- it's up to HER to decide if she wants to suffer 9 months of pregnancy and the pain of childbirth.
It's up to HER to decide if she is willing and able to bring this new life into the world.
It's up to HER, since it's HER body being used, and any expenses incurred will be up to HER to pay for.
It is not up to me- and for damn sure it is NOT up to YOU to decide FOR her.
This conversation is now over, as you are a person who cannot be reasonable.”
raphael hythlodaye on Jun 29, 2013 at 23:01:48
“I can be reasonable but I do not suffer arrogance lightly. The arrogance of others who think they can decide who lives or dies because they in their pomposity have determined that a child in foster care is not worthy of life. That a child born in poor circumstances is better off dead. That a child born to a teen mother will be a drug addict. The height of arrogance.”
“Late term abortions are rare. Most abortions are performed in the first trimester.
And FWIW- we are NOT "pro-abortion". None of us are PRO abortion- we are pro CHOICE. That's what you zealots don't understand.
And if you want to see kids in true misery just look at the amount of them being killed or abused by their parents, or languishing in the abominable foster care system.
Many will grow up to be drug addicts, prostitutes, or criminals because they learned it from their parents or foster parents.
Most of these kids would have been a lot better off if they'd never been brought into the world.
It would be a much better goal to find loving homes for the unwanted kids in this country than to bring tens of thousands more unwanted kids into it.
Birth control and sex education help prevent pregnancy, but the zealots are against that as well. Go figure.
So this bill is doing nothing but making a lot of noise, wasting a lot of taxpayer money, putting on a show for the religitards by preventing late term abortions which are not likely to happen in the first place.
This is how I see this whole abortion dog and pony show:
"...it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."
raphael hythlodaye on Jun 29, 2013 at 17:32:54
“I cannot believe how negative you pro-abortion folks are. You condemn people to death because of your dark outlook on life. You justify their death because you think they will be addicts or that they will be unhappy. Who in God's green earth are you to say how unworthy of living someone is? You are judge, jury and executioner and revel in your self-elevated position of a deity-hood. You pro-abortionists have no right to decide who lives or dies based on their socio-economic group or family status.”
“Sure it will.
Every pregnancy will be brought to term, all the happy babies will be brought into the world to mothers who will love them and want them.
They will all get blessed by fairies, and get unicorns for their birthdays and live in houses under the rainbow too.
The only thing this will do is drive abortion back underground- like in the "good" old days.
Women will be at the mercy of the back alley butchers once again, and they will die.
But you just keep drinking that GOPTP kool-aid and believing that outlawing safe, legal abortions will actually SAVE lives...”
raphael hythlodaye on Jun 28, 2013 at 18:25:53
“the bill only protects babies near the time of viability. that means the point at which the baby no longer needs to be in the mother to survive. You pro-abortion folks like to talk about how miserable the lives of kids will be if they are not aborted. Here is the story of an abortion survivor. She really doesn't seem to be that unhappy to me.
“hanmeng, here- a simple recipe:
*NOTE* I don't use set measurements, I just guess, and taste, as I make it.
1/4 cup or so of the liquid from the chickpeas.
Fresh garlic. To your taste. I like a LOT! :-)
Lemon juice. About 1/2 a tablespoon.
Extra virgin olive oil. A few tablespoons.
Sesame tahini paste. About 1/8-1/4 cup.
Salt. A pinch.
Parsley for the top.
In a food processor, start adding your chickpeas. Start by pulsing, then increase the time, on low. When the motor starts to strain, add a bit of the chickpea liquid.
Add lemon juice, and tahini paste. Add a pinch of salt.
Add your garlic. It's best to squish the garlic with a garlic press before adding to the food processor. A food processor never chops garlic as fine as it needs to be for this.
Do NOT add the olive oil until the end.
The goal is to make as smooth a paste as possible, but you want it thick, not runny.
When you've got the consistency you want, ie a spoon can stand up in it- and it tastes good to your palate, add the olive oil. For one can of chickpeas a few tablespoons is plenty. You can also drizzle some over the top when you serve it.
Fresh parsley sprinkled on top.
Great with pita bread, or with pieces of flour tortilla, which is how I usually have it.

“$10-15 a ticket.
Noisy kids, crying babies, inconsiderate parents.
People yakking on cell phones or with each other.
People stuffing their faces and crinkling plastic bags.
Yeah- I'm going to the movies- NOT.
I would rather watch at home where I can control my environment and hit "pause" when I have to pee...”
“Their middle class may be below our poor- but it costs considerably less to live in China.
That has to be factored into the equation.
So considering they get health care, and who knows what else- their middle class may actually be better off than our our poor...”
josh slatter on Jun 12, 2013 at 21:02:00
“Plus they are still living on pennies a day.”
josh slatter on Jun 12, 2013 at 21:01:35
“They get healthcare but if you have anything worse than a cold or small cut youre screwed. If you need a brain transplant or anything that is semi serious like a broken bone youre done for.”
“Amen to that.
I hate it when the consumer is blamed because they want "cheap" products.
Well guess what- the products are NOT cheap- just cheaply made. They sell for the same price they would if they were made here.
So all the money saved on labor, and environmental protection goes right in the company's pockets.
That's why profits are higher EVERY single quarter.
They're not fooling anyone anymore.
And our govt not only let's them get away with it- it gives them tax breaks to do it!
That's what really pisses me off.”
“I don't care how good Chinese products get.
If offered the choice of a made in China product vs a made in USA product that cost more- I would buy the USA made one, no question.
I want to be able to support my country, but I can't.
The corporations, with the blessing and collusion of our govt, have outsourced pretty much every manufacturing job to third world countries because of cheap, child, and slave labor.
Talk about blood money...
How can our workers compete with those making 50 cents an hour- if they're lucky? They can't.
Our own govt sold this country out.
Bunch of treasonous bastards- they ought to be in jail.”
“Sorry Sabra, I find your hummus to be about as tasty as wallpaper paste.
I make my own, thank you very much.
Hummus is one of the easiest things in the world to make.
If you have a food processor (don't even consider doing this in a blender) and the basic ingredients- chick peas, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, tahini- you can make better hummus than anything pre-made, and it's quick to make.”

“This article really could have used a recipe. Thank you for yours.”
“Ever see the scifi film "Gattaca"? That's what this sounds like in certain ways.
The premise is that babies are tested at birth for genetic defects, and this determines what they will be able to do with their lives.
Genetically "defective" humans become a new underclass of society, robbed of their right to self-determination.
This film (1997) was ahead of it's time, and is very pertinent to what's going on today with data collection.
I suggest renting Gattaca and Majority Report for those who want to see what the future will be like in this country.”
“Audrey, I don't make them myself, I get them from a local Puerto Rican restaurant.
Yucca is a brown root covered with wax. You have to peel them- it's sort of like peeling a rutabaga. The skin is very tough.
The yucca itself is also very hard. It's a PITA to cut. When I cook yucca in a stew it also requires a long cooking time, at least 3x that of potatoes. There is also a fibrous and inedible "core" in the root that must be removed.
So while I love yucca fries, I feel it's best to let the "experts" handle it's preparation.
That way all I have to do is enjoy. :-)
I'm sure if you really wanted to tackle it you could find recipes on the net though, but I would rather just get it ready made.
I think- and don't quote me on this- that you can buy them frozen like French fries and all you have to do is throw them in the oven or sauté them.
Of course you'll need to find a Spanish market to get them from though...
HTH in some small way! :-)”

“Thank you very much for the info.I think my Mom uses those in her stews. And she has told me they take a long time to cook. Guess I'll have to wait till I stumble across them. I'll keep them in mind. Have a good day. Thanks”
“Tostones may indeed put French fries to shame, but so do yucca fries.
Yucca fries are to die for, although I'm not sure if they're Cuban or Puerto Rican.
The hardest part about making tostones is peeling the damned bananas. Green plaintains are really a PITA to peel.
But oh I do love Cuban food. :-)
And Puerto Rican food. :-)
And Salvadoran food. :-)
And *real* Mexican food. :-)
And southern US, soul food, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, French, Italian, Greek... ok, I just love to eat. LOL :-)
The world would be a much more peaceful place if only everyone sat down together and sampled each other's cuisines.
It's harder to dislike someone you broke bread with...”
Audrey Ferragamo on Jun 2, 2013 at 22:21:32
“How do you make yucca fries? the same way?I know how to make tostones.”
“Sorry, but it is.
Every time a toilet is flushed some of that water is aerosolized and can travel up to 10 feet away.
People washing their hands after using the toilet are touching the faucet with dirty hands to turn it on.
Those germs can migrate into any water you are drawing from that faucet- so- sorry- bathroom water IS different than kitchen water.”
robertaruth on Jun 2, 2013 at 14:21:13
“Migrating germs....Where do you get this stuff? What if your kitchen faucet is within ten feet of the bathroom faucet?
