“I'm still trying to figure out the logic (or lack there of) of how this exchange makes soldiers less safe. Cruz is saying that terrorists will stop trying to kill soldiers and will start trying to capture them for prisoner exchanges? Trying to take someone alive is a lot more difficult than trying to kill them.
I won't even go into the fact that its more than likely these guys are tagged and a drone missle already has their names on it or that its very possible the Taliban will not trust them because they were in US custody.”
“Except I'm not a writer and would want a free press and free speech because it is needed for the security of a free state. Weak gun laws make this country less secure and is more harmful to the freedom of our country.”

“I'm a writer, too. What you're saying is that if it's a right you care about, you want to exercise it, but other rights can be sacrificed in the name of security theater.
I suggest you look up Benjamin Franklin's comment about giving up liberty in the name of security.”
“Why are we as a people allowing gun fetishists to continue making laws concerning firearms in this country? Can you imagine if we allowed drug users to write drug laws or drunk drivers to write traffic laws?”

“For the same reason that writers push for broad exercise of the free press, that activists demand broad exercise of free speech, that women who want to control their own bodies demand broad exercise of privacy, that same-sex couples insist on a braod reading of the Fourteenth Amendment, and so on.”
“Henry Ford had a simple business model. Pay your employees enough so that they can buy your own product. He paid his employees well and they in turn bought cars. He realized you can only take from the economy so much before it has nothing left to give.
Walmart is starting to learn that lesson. You can only take so much from people before they have nothing left to give. Walmart want to be high end but no one shops Walmart for high end items because their products are cheap chinese crud. My sister-in-law learned the hard way when she thought she got a great bargain buying bedroom furniture and it ended up breaking apart after a month.
Costco learned that it can give a good deal by not being overly greedy. They have quality products at reasonable prices. Upper middle class look at Walmart as nothing but a glorified dollar store and it will take a whole lot to change their mind about that.”
“CNN is a business. Fox is a business. MSNBC is a business.
Their goal is profit. If truth and integrity get in the way its fun over. You have to look to more meaningful news outlets like PBS Newshour. Their goal isn't profit and therefore they have less bias.”
“What is wrong with Sarah Palin's statements? Truth vs lies.
Talking about Sarah Palin's past as mayor and governor is acceptable as long as you are telling the truth about her record. If Sarah Palin had an affair, which to my knowledge she didn't, or did had an abortion, which to my knowledge she never has, that would fair to talk about as long as the information was accurate. Journalism is about telling the truth and always should be.
However, Karl Rove lied. He lied about how long Hillary was in the hospital (3 vs. 30 days). He lied about the type of galsses she was wearing after her hospital stay. He then used those lies to build supposition that had no basis in reality and he got called out on it.”

“Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel used to have a show called The Man Show. It denegrated women for laughs and was on for about six seasons and appealed to the neanderthal male view. To be fair it made fun of themselves as well. However, it was soon cancelled.
The difference is that Jimmy Kimmel grew up and Adam Carolla didn't. The act gets stale and old. Mean can only get you so far and you have to be REALLY funny to pull it off. Adam Carolla is just not that funny.
I don't care if people use gay humor, but I have a tough skin and can handle it. I haven't faced abuse growing up saying that gay is bad and I am going to burn for it. However, many people have. They are trying to heal themselves and when someone comes along to denegrate them for a cheap laugh they lash out. If Mr. Carolla can't handle that he should get out of the business.”

“Yeah, I took the Man Show to be making fun of the "uber-male" steroetypes much more than making fun of women... But it did do a fair amount of that. That's why I stopped watching after the first season.”
“Anyone that can translate the comments can handle the language. I think its clever and most people are not going to get it. The irony is that more people will probably learn the chemical symbols trying to translate the meaning than they would stusdying in class.”
