“The "People" can take care of the term limits at the voting booth! What we really need is CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM! We need to demand that the lobbyists stop stuffing wads of cash into our lawmakers' pockets! That would solve a multitude of sins!”

“What is the point of having treaties and international laws that we have signed on to...if we are not going to enforce those laws and abide by those treaties? Abiding by these treaties implies that people who break these laws are to be held accountable! Why is that such a strange idea to some people who are blasting the ACLU for their stand on the issue?

Bush, Cheney and their cabal of criminals are guilty of war crimes! We all know this...someone needs to continue the call to bring them to justice!”

“You are right in your comments to say that we "should" be able to bring criminal charges against the Bush/Cheney cabal, but I have lost faith that it will. Back in the late summer, it was announced that Attorney General Holder was appointing a Special Prosecutor....then, not another word.

I would like to think that the silence is a sign that the Justice Department is going about its work, putting these cases together, without fanfare, but at this point, it is hard to believe that their announcement was nothing more than a few crumbs thrown to the left-wing base.”

loyalreader replied on Dec 14, 2009 at 08:50:45

“It was probably just a few crumbs. And I believe the last administration set up the present administration for failure. This first year has been tough.”

“"When are we going to clamor for war criminal trials..."? Some of us here, including myself, have been clamoring for over a year for this! I wish I had a buck for every petition I have signed, every email to Congress, etc. I have had my hopes soar at the announcement by AG Holder that he was appointing a Special Prosecutor, only to have them dashed when nothing happens.

Sorry to sound so cynical this morning, but there are two sets of laws in this country....one for "them" and another for the rest of us!”

“The American people deserve a reckoning!

We barely managed to make it through the 8 disastrous years of Bush/Cheney and we want a reckoning! We want a reckoning for an illegal, immoral war in Iraq that has cost us almost 5,000 lives of our bravest and best. We want a reckoning for the trillions of dollars poured down a hole in the sand for oil. We want a reckoning for the war profiteers that drained our treasury and wasted our hard-earned dollars. We want a reckoning for the torture of prisoners, done in our names!

We want a reckoning for the Wall Street cr00ks that stole our retirement funds with their illegal schemes. We want a reckoning for tax breaks for the richest among us. We want a reckoning for the massive increases in the cost of health care insurance. We want a reckoning for tax breaks to companies that ship our jobs overseas for cheap labor. We want a reckoning for the cr00ked politicians that take lobbyist money and then make our laws without regard for the American people.

Will President Obama give us this reckoning? I guess that remains to be seen.”

“I could not have said it better! What really galls me are the senators that are bought and paid for by Corporate America. There should be NO lobbyist money donated at ALL to campaign funds!!!! Our Congress should be putting the welfare of the average american and american family First! Look out America...Our whole way of life, our government is for Corporations and by the Corporations and not the People! If we are not there yet, we soon will be. The Republicans don't seem to mind spending money on War, but hoard their money when it comes to helping the American People or making needed improvements to the functioning of this country...why do you think our infrastructure is crumbling...bridges, dams, levies, water treatment facilities, oil refineries, etc.? Republican idea of government is to wage war, collect a paycheck, get tax breaks for the rich friends and let the rest of the country go to hell.

ALSO: That we set up the Constitution of Iraq to have universal health care and help fund universal Health Care for Israel and fight against it for our own citizens is absolutely shameful!”

The Land Mines Obama Won't Touch

Commented Dec 13, 2009 at 08:41:27 in Politics

“The military-industrial complex wins again....no treaty against landmines while children are maimed.

The military-industrial complex wins again....escalation of the Afghanistan war while women and children are k illed.

The military-industrial complex wins again... passage of a huge defense budget while the American people go without decent health care, homes, and jobs, and education...and children go hungry.

The American people lose again! Why do I feel so terribly betrayed??”

IsobelDeBrujah replied on Dec 13, 2009 at 16:00:50

“"Why do I feel so terribly betrayed??"

I would speculate that it is because you don't have the facts yet comment anyway.

No children are harmed by the land mines the US still has deployed. That mine field is under double armed guard in a demilitarized zone.

Clinton, not Bush, originally implemented this policy ans they did so only after we were denied an exemption for the Korean peninsula. While refusing to sign the treaty we have also drawn down our stock of land mines and retro-fitted the existing mines to become safer.

The hysteria and hyperbole connected to this issue are, frankly, disgusting in their similarity to the fact challenged swill coming out of the radical right. The reasoning for this decision has been made clear for over a decade and yet the left continues to ignore our military commitments in favor of Utopian fantasy.”

“I was most respectful in my email to the mayor and to the authority that runs the Armory. You are absolutely right! Being courteous will win many more friends!

But I did not ask him to "donate" that cost. I asked him to pressure the board to reconsider its demands and to lower the rental fee. I told him that thousands of people could be helped and that he would be considered a hero if he can make this happen. A little stroking of the vanity doesn't hurt!”
