High School Twerking Ban Hits Southern California

“As a mother of a middle-school girl I can honestly, and I think, appropriately say that there is no place in schools for anything that resembles what would be done up on the main stage.”

“To "lay it on the worker" is hardly the easy way out. It's their job to be an advocate for a child who obviously needed help. It's deplorable how this child was let down time and time again more than likely by more than one overly complacent case worker who just stopped caring as much as he/she should have considering the job they've taken on.”

clanMcDonald on Jun 5, 2013 at 12:48:01

“Look, the case load is far too larger for these workers.  Do the research.  A case load of 25-30 children is a workable number, not 50-75.  There are workers with more than 100 children to track.  The worker or workers need to be held accountable for this child's death, as should department heads.  I stated to lay all the blame on the worker is the easy way out.  Your flippant response is typical.  Try walking in the shoes of a case worker with 70 kids to track, then let me about complacency. ”

“Amen..and well stated.”

“So when a teacher has 45 kids in her class and something goes wrong, you blame the teacher and not the system that gave her 45 kids? Yes, the worker should have caught it, yes it is tragic, but to say that all blame rests there is, in fact, the easy way out.”

“If i was a parent of a student at Sandy Hook I would be saying today IS the perfect day.”

Parketkat on Dec 14, 2012 at 15:24:03

“really? as a parent you wouldn't maybe be mourning or informing family? You'd be ready to site down and talk legal policy within hours or losing your child? If thats you, I feel sorry for your kids - maybe finish counting the bodies first before you turn to politics. You essentially saying you'd discuss the will of a dead parent before the funeral. glad you aren't a parent!”

Aurical on Dec 14, 2012 at 15:06:06

“That is part of the problem. It is the perfect day period. Too many people don't address issues until they are personally affected. I remember in high school I was the only member of Students Against Drunk Driving that hadn't lost a family member to drunk driving and the members looked at me weirdly. An issue doesn't need to affect you PERSONALLY to be worth standing up for.”

http://apicciano.commons.gc.cuny.edu/2011/07/29/for-profit-colleges-john-boehner-and-educational-industrial-complex/

"The bottom line on all of this is that for-profit colleges have basically become a multi-billion dollar industry controlled by a handful of private companies whose profits stem largely from federal financial aid programs. Many of these for-profit schools have the largest dropout and hence default rates in higher education leaving their former students in debt without having improved their chances for better jobs.
The educational-industrial complex in our country is alive, well and continues to thrive for the benefit of stockholders and politicians."”

“Lots of people judging these two for this - mostly about the money issue. Please be aware that people who have annual passes and visit the park often can do so without spending very much. It's part of the appeal. I'm a stay-at-home mom and my daughter and I have annual passes (parking included) that are paid for in installment payments each month. It gives us a chance to get out of the house for a lot less than it would cost to go see a movie or hang out at the mall. Smart AP holders also know the ins and outs of the park to get the most out of a day (when to go, when to leave, what NOT to pay for, what areas to avoid, and when, etc.). We've gone and have spent VERY little at the park (in some cases under $25). And please take into consideration that in this day and age - when life is not as easy as it used to be - it's a place where, if you choose, it CAN very well be the happiest place on earth for a little while - something we can ALL use every now and then (or every day if that's what floats your boat)”

If it was really wrong and anything other than entertainment, I'm sure CPS would get involved. Do you really think these shows aren't dramatized for the purpose of reality television?”

I sincerely hope TLC reads these comments and understands that this isn't interesting television. It's purely there for the shock value. I, for one, am not interested.”

“this filler makes it 3 CENTS cheaper per pound of beef to produce. I don't think our children's health is worth whatever money they think they're saving the citizens. I wouldn't force them to eat it - they shouldn't be forcing children (in many case don't have any other options for meals during the day) eat it either.”

“Luckily, my daughters teacher has some solid common sense. But she's not always in the lunchroom. If I EVER found out that my daughter was forced to eat food from the school cafeteria I would be in the principals office faster than they could ask "what just happened?!"”

Trollstein on Mar 9, 2012 at 16:26:08

“You don't know me but if my daughter was forced to eat anything that her parents did not approve of, I would cost the school district a few hundred thousands in legal expenses, not counting any possibility of a favorable judgement. I would not settle for any amount. They would be paying lawyers up to a federal civil rights appeal and possibly beyond.”

“Why people remain teachers when they no longer have the desire to teach, lead, support, and be a positive role model is beyond me. It's like a nurse who couldn't care less that one is in pain or a vicious nun/priest. Why stay in the job if you're going to be that hateful to your students? DO everyone a favor and LEAVE the profession. Sounds like she's not sorry it happened...but sorry she was caught. Even more reason for her to no longer be in any classroom EVER again.”
