“So, harrymudd ... I take it you would have been one of the passengers screaming for his attorney?”

harrymudd replied on Dec 27, 2009 at 12:51:55

“Talk about putting words into people's mouth. Where did I say anything about lawyers?

I said they should be treated like human beings. I also said I understand they need to be kept until investigation is done. Do you object to having people get a bathroom; food; water and access to their medication? Mind you I am talking about the passengers. This was a very traumatic experience for them and they need at least a place to sit; a glass of water and somewhere to go to the bathroom in peace.”

“Yeah, let's not even consider love, forgiveness, children, or any other of those stupid things.

Anyone who doesn't see that Tiger Woods' best option is to grovel, crawl, and beg his way back into his wife and mother's good graces is too cynical for anyone's good.

I say give him the chance. If he does it again ... POW.”

duze replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 11:40:04

“If she gives him a chance, he's going to do it again. Cheaters cheat. He'll continue with the one who hasn't opened her mouth. Elin will know it, and it will be fine as long as she's not publically humiliated. Ask Hillary Clinton.”

lippp replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 11:05:53

“Tiger was willing to have unprotected sex (as reported by a number of his mistresses) thereby exposing his wife and family to any variety of STD's some of which could be not only harmful but deadly (ie AIDS). He did this apparently throughout his marriage. How do you begin to trust your health and your family's health to someone who never really was loyal to you, constantly lied, and essentially used you as prop to present an image that translated into big bucks and fame. Somehow it appears Tiger is really a wolf in disguise and his wife never really knew who she married. She is a bigger person than most if she stays.”

cltclt replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 10:53:52

“I would agree if it were 1 or two, even three women. He's in the double digits, each one nastier than the last. Porn stars, waitresses, "hostesses", some of them claiming NO CONDOM. Inexcusable and very dangerous. Not even diseases they could pass to each other, what about his chances for eventually picking a fatal attraction. Look at Steve Mcnair. What do you think would have happened to his wife if she'd shown up at that condo? She'd have been the one murdered. I would not stay with Tiger. He can't grovel enough.”

A Rebuttal to Howard Dean: I Am a U.S. Senator, and I Will Vote For This Bill

Commented Dec 21, 2009 at 10:06:34 in Politics

“Kirk has brought me to my senses. After coming VERY close to signing a "kill the bill" petition, I did some research. (I was very uncomfortable with the arm-twist approach, and the Republican-like scare rhetoric of the petition)

Kirk is absolutely correct in his assertion that killing this bill will do more damage than "swallowing it".

Civil rights was also a baby step proposition. I'm sticking with progress, as I am a TRUE progressive.

To insist on perfection during a period of overwhelming odds against it is just plain foolish.

Huffposters are outspoken, Huffposters are right minded, Huffposters are moral, but Huffposters are self destructively impatient.

Cool off, my friends. We've been knocking at this bolted door for decades with no response. We have forced it open, and it was being slammed shut again, but this bill is our FOOT in that door.

Don't pull it out and think that knocking again will get us anywhere.”

themainpoint replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 11:23:01

“"To insist on perfection during a period of overwhelming odds against it is just plain foolish."

I've heard nobody insist on perfection. Most wanted Single Payer & compromised for a Public Option. But we got no real Public Option, either.

It's not about allowing a desire for the perfect be the enemy of the good. It is about not letting more of the same be carved into legal stone & become the long-term enemy of real reform.

The only compromises here have been compromises to the health & bank accounts of Americans who (if lucky enough to afford insurance) already pay more than twice the going rate for health care & die sooner.

Big drug & insurance don't compete for a living like Americans who pay their rigged prices. They take unearned profits by lobbying Congress and making secret deals with the President to decide how much of the average Americans paycheck is going to have their name on it. They take profits by dropping people who become ill. It's killing the middle class, small business and our economy. Balance and fairness must be restored.

If we eliminate artificial prices and the anti-trust exemption, prices will go down by 50%.

If the current reps can't deliver change, we'll do better to vote in reps who can.

Recent quote from the CA Nurses association:
"What we've got now isn't really healthcare reform, it's a reshuffling of the deck chairs on the Titanic as far as our patients are concerned..."””

DietPepsi replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 10:59:16

“Why do you think gutting medicare of 500 Billion dollars without reforming medicare...thus causing it to go broke sooner is an acceptable idea?”

KarmaTheDog replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 10:43:47

“I appreciate what you've said, though I disagree with you. But can you please not keep passing along the "insist on perfection" meme. Perfection was never part of the debate, and this bill is so far from perfection it's not worth mentioning.”

PadrePio replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 10:42:14

“Where is the competition in this bill? Is there any provision that requires a company that has 85% of the health care insurance market in a state give that up? Is there any provision that will punish insurance companies from colluding to fix prices as they do now?

Where is the cost containment protection for Americans? It's all fine that we will transfer public wealth to private industry to subsidize people who can not afford their premiums but what mechanism exists in this bill that will prevent insurance companies from creating in the more affordable plans deductibles and co-pays that are so high that they render the policy useless?

And please note there will still be people who can not afford their premiums. What happens if the fiscal scolds take over in Washington and decide to cut or eliminate the subsidies will the individual mandate be removed at this time or will people become criminals because they can't make their protection payments to Aetna?

Here’s what we really get with this bill,

United
States
Of
Aetna”

“Um, great story, the man obviously did what had to be done, but I didn't read anything that even remotely suggested the "lifting" of a car.

He said "the car was lying on her hips", and that he "just grabbed it, lifted, and pushed it off her".

The miracle is that she wasn't injured, and his fast action certainly insured the good outcome, but it seems that he pushed the car off AS he lifted.

Nice guy though ... he deserves the hero label, regardless.

Grinch comment over.”

JustLucky replied on Dec 19, 2009 at 12:13:47

“The word "lifted" refers to lifting the car, regardless of when he did the pushing. The article says "He says he doesn't know how he managed to lift the Mercury sedan off the child." I've been hearing stories like this all my life about mothers lifting a car off children, etc.”

clocknova replied on Dec 19, 2009 at 09:16:09

Thanks for doing the look-see. In response to your comments:

1) I do my best to keep my own ego suppressed and deliver the message clearly. Succinctness is something I am working on. Thanks for the observation.

2) No one is Frank Zappa, not even Dweezil. I miss the man and have all of the CD's and DVD' and vinyl ever made by FZ. My goal is not to "be" him. Nor is it to try to replicate him. I do my best to live in agreement with much of his philosophy and to share his lyrics when possible. FZ was far greater a man than I can ever hope to even recognize.
Cheers”

You're right on the mark about "jl4141" 's sarcasm, but what's with your need to criticize him for it?

His two lines spoke clearly; your five, not so much.

How can you not get that your whine about his sarcasm is more offensive than his sarcasm about a silly post?

Sheesh.”

FZliveson replied on Dec 18, 2009 at 00:23:35

“EvasDaddy: Thanks for giving me the opportunity to explain. There is no shortage of sarcastic people in this world. I struggle to avoid going to that place a lot. If we are going to make this a better place to live, we need to suppress our egos (punishing and needy mechanism) and strive to be up front with others and deal in the first and second persons when we communicate. Otherwise we are either punishing other people, or seeking approval for being tough on others. Neither of those things will help build positive cooperative relationships or teamwork.

There are a lot of people on this post, who are here for entertainment or to be sadistic. I cannot stop that and I can't say I won't slip and go there myself. But telling the truth and speaking personally is the best way to truly communicate. Join me and the others who want to make a positive difference.
Thanks and Happy Holidays.”

I'm stunned by the people who are so quickly buying into the Republican hype about Obama's "failure".

“I love this "reason" for deer hunting: HUNT FOR FOOD.

The cost of guns, hunting garb, travel, time away from work, and everything else associated with "hunting" would buy most American families some serious groceries.

Why can't "hunters" just admit the thrill they get from killing?”

liberalNmoderation replied on Nov 09, 2009 at 14:24:22

“Obviously you two know nothing about hunting or why people do it.
For some, you may be correct in your assumption.
but for most, it's about knowing where your meat comes from...it's an abattoir...knowing that you have taken an animals life in order to feed your family is I guess kind of thrill...it's also good for the environment as well...since we've killed off their natural predators, they've become very overpopulated....

Knowing that the meat is clean...no drugs, hormones, antibiotics or any of the garbage they pump into factory farmed meat...knowing that it's pure, healthy, AND delicious is really quite a satisfying thing.

I only hunt for what I need...I don't trophy hunt, and I don't sportfish...
I do realize, that humans are predators...we have stereoscopic vision, teeth that can process the flesh of dead animals.
We're carnivores by our very genetics...

Half my freezer is filled with venison and wild boar...and wild boar is another topic altogether...
once you eat fresh wild boar sausage, you'll never eat farm raised pork again...”

“"Why can't "hunters" just admit the thrill they get from killing?"

Well, it's in their genes, just like it's in a lion's genes. They just don't want to admit it.

I don't get that thrill. That's why I'd rather not see my prey killed. I'd rather leave it to others who do get that thrill. I know that some would consider that hypocritical, and it could very well be, but at least I admit it. That's one of the differences between a Liberal and a Conservative.”
