Obama in New Orleans -- Is That All There Is?

Commented Oct 13, 2009 at 11:33:40 in Politics

“Harry Shearer is an articulate man. If only he would use the leverage of his wit to assist, instead of goad, a man with a myriad of high priority tasks on his agenda.

To ask "Is that all there is" of a good man running at top speed does not further anyone's cause.”

luziannagirl replied on Oct 14, 2009 at 09:21:29

“EvasDaddy, Harry does what he does best, and I for one am extremely grateful he's doing it.

Furthermore, I'd be willing to bet President O has plenty of assistance and sweet encouragement from folks on his side of the political isle, to the point he probably craves what Harry has to offer. It can be very hard for high-profile people (especially ones as attractive as our President) to break through the celebrity bubble to find out what's really going on, from people who have nothing to gain nor axe to grind, regarding money or politics or social status.

I'd be willing to bet someone at the White House pays a lot of attention to what Harry has to say and write, and perhaps, even , to what we in the gumbo gallery have to say.”

“Harry's "goading" is probably the only reason Obama is coming for the 90 minute photo-op to begin with. Thank you Harry!”

“I'm totally impressed that you are participating on HuffPost without the benefit of a computer! Simply amazing!

Those of us who must use them don't need legislator's numbers posted, as we only have to Google the name, and presto ... we have the number.

I suggest you visit your local library or borrow a computer from a friend, so that you may enjoy the same broad access as the rest of us.

About Grayson, he is MY representative! I campaigned for him, voted for him, and will support him through thick and thin!

GO ALAN!”

Chris Cuomo said "Going Rouge" on Good Morning America this morning, and they wouldn't let him forget it. The copy he was reading from said "rouge", and that's how he read it. Very funny stuff.”

“No worry there. The Winkin' Wasillan would never show up.”

Tophes replied on Sep 05, 2009 at 21:49:17

“Not showing up is beside the point. Sarah Palin is NOT the President of the United States, so try again elizaW. She also has a track record of saying some pretty questionable things. Now, if an actual President wanted to "have a chat with students" then I'd have no problem with that. Most would have the decency & common sense to leave "politics" out of the classroom.

Btw, there was no uproar when former President George W. Bush visited Booker Elementary School in Sarasota, FL. Visits as such should actually be encouraged!

There is nothing wrong with listening to people with ideas that differ from your own. People need to stop pretending like this is a partisan issue.

Closed-minded people slow the progression of society.”

“Well, "Andrew", it's kind of heartening to think that a 16 year old is interested enough to read Huffington Post and to comment on a current topic. Forgive me, but I'm not convinced you're 16, but if you are, I hope you buckle down a little in English class; your writing is a bit tough to navigate.

I think I got your point, which was that you believe President Obama's speech is somehow costing us money that could somehow be funneled to Arizona, and that you maybe don't want to sacrifice class time? Well buddy, if they force you to listen to our President, I suggest you listen carefully to his message. The topic is all over the place, so it's not exactly a state secret. I can put it in a nutshell for you right here: Value your education, keep at it, do your best. That's it.

Andrew, if that's your name, you need to get busy, buddy ... you're on the right track by speaking your mind, but you'll be way more effective if you put a little work into your research, and a little more substance in your comments.

Even if you're not 16.”

“I am the innovative genius of labor of which Lovine speaks. I can fix anything, build anything, cook anything, I command a respectable wage, sport a reasonable appearance AND an above average IQ.

I used to play the "hero" role, once challenging a giant brute who made a drunken pass at my young wife during a company Christmas party. (The Good Lord graciously saw to it that I was "held off" by friends. Back then, I believed my role to be that of fearless protector.

After learning the errors of hot headedness, I abandoned my movie star machismo, and exchanged for specific deliberative judgment. I retain the capacity to defend the weak from harmful attack, but no longer feel the need to openly exhibit that capacity

One of the first realizations that came from my conversion is that women who are titillated by crude behaviors are not emotionally mature.

I suppose a woman like that deserves a brawler.”

Brilliant.”
