“I love this "reason" for deer hunting: HUNT FOR FOOD.
The cost of guns, hunting garb, travel, time away from work, and everything else associated with "hunting" would buy most American families some serious groceries.
Why can't "hunters" just admit the thrill they get from killing?”

“Obviously you two know nothing about hunting or why people do it.
For some, you may be correct in your assumption.
but for most, it's about knowing where your meat comes from...it' s an abattoir.. .knowing that you have taken an animals life in order to feed your family is I guess kind of thrill...i t's also good for the environment as well...sin ce we've killed off their natural predators, they've become very overpopula ted....
Knowing that the meat is clean...no drugs, hormones, antibiotics or any of the garbage they pump into factory farmed meat...kno wing that it's pure, healthy, AND delicious is really quite a satisfying thing.
I only hunt for what I need...I don't trophy hunt, and I don't sportfish. ..
I do realize, that humans are predators. ..we have stereoscopic vision, teeth that can process the flesh of dead animals.
We're carnivores by our very genetics.. .
Half my freezer is filled with venison and wild boar...and wild boar is another topic altogether ...
once you eat fresh wild boar sausage, you'll never eat farm raised pork again...”

Well, it's in their genes, just like it's in a lion's genes. They just don't want to admit it.
I don't get that thrill. That's why I'd rather not see my prey killed. I'd rather leave it to others who do get that thrill. I know that some would consider that hypocritical, and it could very well be, but at least I admit it. That's one of the differences between a Liberal and a Conservative.”

CoolerHeads replied on Oct 25, 2009 at 16:18:09
“I see the "underlying" point. What I am saying, and what you don't seem to understand, is that this ad simply does not work. The ad is supposed to be selling the idea that competition is good. What the ad is actually selling is something quite different. Now, the Right has come out with a clear message. "You don't want the government between you and your doctor." This is clear. How does MoveOn counter? With a metaphor that in no way includes you and me. What exactly is MY stake in this race? Why should I care if fat insurance companies are running? In what way does this make competition good for me? It may make you feel good to watch it, but it does nothing for the cause. But it is slightly better than the MoveOn ad that equated Bush to Santa Claus.”
CoolerHeads replied on Oct 25, 2009 at 14:04:19
“Here's another way to put it. The right has offered up the image of "the government getting between you and your doctor." This is a clear image. It makes it clear what is at stake to me. I close my eyes, and I can picture this. So how does MoveOn respond? "competition is good." For whom? According to the commercial, it's good for the insurance companies. I close my eyes and I get a foggy image of some lala race somewhere. Guess who's not in the image? Me. You. The people. Liberals have to stop being clever and start being smart in their messages.”
