“That lady is my Representative from Ohio's 9th district, Marcy Kaptur. She is amazing! The right has been trying like hell to unseat her for a decade or so (she's been in the spot for almost 30 years because we love her) and they have never even come close because she fights so hard for her constituents. Not many of them do, anymore. They are mostly in it for themselves.”

dnegri replied on Oct 09, 2009 at 18:00:52

“Doesn't she have just the right "tone" on those cultural issues to make her not exactly a Progressive (i.e., anti-choice). Or am I confusing her with someone else.”

“Little rich kids? Boy are you off the mark. This is not an uprising of just college students like it was in 2004 when a quick crackdown on campus shut down the protests. This is across every strata of Iranian life. Young and old, rich and poor, they are all rising up.

The Iranian government is more afraid of this uprising than they have been of any other since the Islamic Republic was founded. That is why they are trying so hard to pin this on the US. That is the only thing that will rally the Iranian people to their support because there is still a lot of animosity (and rightfully so) toward the US for installing the Shah 50 years ago. However, the people know that this was a home-grown uprising and the chant of "down with America" doesn't even factor in here. The only chant they are using is Allahu akbar!

The same one they used in the '79 uprising and it worked. This may, too.”

Tuckerndfw replied on Jun 20, 2009 at 10:20:59

“Real well informed, I see.

Congress authorized $10 million in September 2006 to be used to hire protesters (or anyone else) willing to try to overthrow Iran's government:

Why do you think they hired stupid college kids?

This is not a "home grown" effort, it is a US gov't financed effort.

“Actually, the Justice Department is part of the Executive Branch, not the judicial. But I agree with your larger point that this is the purview of the Justice Department and not the President's Office. Holder should begin his investigation immediately and, if enough evidence exists (and who at this point besides Hannity and Beck thinks there is not enough), then prosecutions MUST begin.”

“"And Jon Stewart is not a journalist."

No, he just plays one on TV.

And it does a much better job of it than those who actually CLAIM to be journalists. I'd rather have a fake journalist doing real journalism that a "journalist' writing what their corporate handlers tell them to.”

“Right on the mark!!!! Yes, Stewart has a comedy show. So does Colbert. So does HBO's Bill Maher.
Yes, Stewart, Colbert, and Maher are comedians, and yes they have found a WEALTH of material in the politico and news casting realm. What they have done is to expose the manure that has been going on in politics and by the news and commentary segments.
Are they funny? Yes, as satires go. Are they exposing peoples idiocy and hypocrisy? Yes, and the people they are exposing deserve this type of attention. In a way, Stewart, Colbert, and Maher are the lions that make people think twice before they attempt to spread their manure out on the general public using the television media. As far as I'm concerned their shows are always welcome in my living room television set.”

“Obama was actually referring to the number of Primary elections he would ultimately take part in. If you add in the fact that some states have both a primary and a caucus, include the various protectorates (Guam, Puerto Rico, etc) and Washington D.C., there were 57 contests. My goodness but you Obama haters won't let go of a damn thing, no matter how stupid or thoroughly debunked it may be!”

“If he were being suggested for Secretary of Education, then I would have a serious problem with his appointment. But, since the post is for Treasury, even though it was a bone-headed comment, it h as no bearing on the treasury. We need the best and the brightest to take charge at this moment to undo the damage that the crony system of Bush/Cheney has wrought. If Summers is the best person to help undo that damage, than I am all for it. And, I am a woman.”

“I had to click on your bio to find out who you are but I did so only after reading your wonderful piece here. I never really followed sports (except baseball and even there I don't read about it; I only watch it) so I had never heard of you but I am impressed with your writing (party because I completely agree with it, of course, and partly just due to your style).

I do hope you took the time to register to vote, even though your vote won't do much in Kansas (early in the general election, I hoped that Kansas would come around to Obama because his mother is from there but, apparently, that is not enough to move so many strict conservatives and creationists). My poor brother lives in Utah and claims that the Democratic party meetings are held in a phone booth but he still goes to the polls regardless of the futility of the action. It just makes him feel better and more connected to other free thinkers.”

“Unfortunately, the people watching network TV are never going to see this article and will continue to blindly believe whatever the lying sacks tell them on the TV machine.

I am so afraid that McSame will win and, when things go the way I am sure they will if he's in office, the next depression will begin. Not to mention the effects of global warming will become more and more obvious. There will be more people trying to live on less and less land with less and less resources, including food. It will get really ugly. Of course, Democrats will be blamed because they have the thinnest of majorities in congress so it must be all their fault.

At least, that is how the press will spin it. And people will continue to believe it as long as it doesn't interrupt their reality programming.

The real disasters won't even register with the pinheads until it is tooooooo late!

Democracy works for Republicans because they consistently and effectively pander to the lowest common denominator.”
