Meaningful Agreement: Obama Says 'A First Step' Climate Deal Has Been Reached In Copenhagen
Commented Dec 18, 2009 at 17:17:14 in Green
“Just exactly how was Obama supposed to go to Copanhagen and make an agreement when he is legally bound by the US Congress to ratify anything he says or does? Isn't that what happened to Clinton? He said he could do something that he was unable to get through the Congress. What is the deal here? China is not making any swift moves either - and it takes both of them. Obama did what he could and at least got things moving again.
The only ones that think Obama is the Messiah are the ones that hate him - the rest of us just see him as a guy that is doing what he can, where he can, when he can, to the best of his ability with the restraints he has within our legislative boundaries .. Could you do more? BUsh did NOTHING, believed NOTHING and we are where we are because he believed the flat-earthers and ignored science.”

“Is America finally able to see how the Senate is dysfunctional -- as in NOT FUNCTIONING? By pulling every procedural gambit allowed - a.k.a. Judd Gregg's memo to GOP - NOTHING is getting past the Senate. Which explains why there had to be an omnibus bill to keep 12 federal departments running. By gumming up the works, the GOP has brought America legislation to its knees. Is THIS what the founding fathers [a.k.a. original teabaggers] planned? I don't think so. It is time to do something procedural about it - from 36 to 139 cloture votes in one year is just beyond comprehension.

Obama Nobel Peace Prize Speech: FULL TEXT

“I voted for Obama as much as for what he appeared to be, as for what he said he was. I haven't been surprised yet. I'm realistic - Obama believes in a government by law - which includes Congress enacting lasting laws - so blaming him for what Congress is unable to accomplish seems stupid to me. Anyone who has read The Audacity of Hope has a roadmap of what he believes and wants to accomplish - so where is the surprise?
I didn't expect everything to happen in 30 second sound bites -- and if you did, you are more stupid than can be imagined. For some reason the Republicans decided the best way to overthrow a Democratic president was to put up a staunch wall of ... nothing. Do nothing. Criticize everything. Blame everything. and deliberately lie about just about everything. Hypocrits? Too kind a word. Let's try smoke and mirrors for 8 years of Bush/Cheney and downright lies.
This is a stark and clear speech of what what is best about humans against what is realistic in what we truly are -- incongruent. We want peace and happiness, but want our OWN peace and happiness. ..to hell with anyone else. This is the world we live in. I think Obama's speech was honest, he admitted he had little to show against others who have been awarded this honor, he explained about what he felt could be done in this real world we live in.”

“I think the main issue is that the GOP controlled Congress for 6 years and ran it into a ditch - blew a trillion dollars in Iraq, trashed our civil liberties under the guise of 'protecting' Americans, and abandoned Afghanistan where Bin Laden set up his camps, for Iraq which had nothing to do with it. So, yeah, it is a bit disingenuous for the GOP to act like the Dems are loving this current situation. Congress needs to legislate - what all the Republicans have done --- is nothing. Sit on their hands and whine...us ing every trick in the book to stop legislation and then whine that nothing is being done. Do they really think that they can keep this up for 3 years and remain a viable party? Let us all hope not. Whether you voted Dem or Republican - you expected your candidate to WORK - not whine. So get off your collective GOP duffs and DO SOMETHING or shut the heck up and go home to your pile of cash and perks you got for doing nothing. UGH!”

Now the GOP is reaping what they have sown and the "tea partiers" have further damaged an already damaged brand. They started it up just because they don't want to accept responsibilty for going along with Bush and are using false patriotism to avoid any blame.
The GOP wen along because they thought they could stir up a few votes but instead they are now in a position of having to fight re-election against the very "tea partiers" they tolerated without speaking out regarding their extremism.
