“Here are some Maryland statistics on the state of health care, from Senator Ben Cardin. He is the Democratic Senator who had to be escorted from a town hall meeting by security, after the crowd threatened his life for his support of the Public Option. Anyone who thinks the system needs to stay the way it is, is either an insurance executive, brainwashed by Faux, or already on Medicare and doesn't give a crap about the millions of Americans without coverage:

Escalating health care costs threaten every American family. In 1996, the average cost of a health care policy for a Maryland family was approximately $6,000; in 2006 that cost had risen to nearly $12,000 and by 2016 the same insurance policy is expected to increase to almost $24,000 – a whopping 109 percent increase from 2006. By 2016, health care insurance premiums will consume 32.2 percent of projected Maryland median family income.

Middle-class Americans are particularly vulnerable. Today, health care costs are rising three times faster than wages, eating away the paychecks of millions of Americans. A stunning 72 million Americans are struggling to pay health care bills, and 62 percent of all bankruptcies in 2007 were linked to medical bills.”

Palemoon replied on Nov 23, 2009 at 19:34:23

“Excellent post and thanks for sharing those statistics. I agree, without any real reform, America will essentially turn into a two-class society with the middle class joining the poor.

The area in which I live is a city of only around 80,000 people. A rural city that's only here because of the military base. In this area, you got 3 choices. Work for the base, work for an industry that supports the base, or you end up in a job that guarantees that you stay poor your entire life. And it's probably because of the military base, but my small rural city is the third highest cost of living area in the state of Georgia. Only Atlanta and Savannah are higher. I watch young people around here and I don't know how they do it. Many families have kids living with them through the 20s. And for the kids that do have the urge to get out on their own at all costs, really aren't on their own as they are living 3 and 4 to a single apartment.

Anyways, we better get over the notion that community involvement is bad and that government aid is bad. Otherwise, we're going to have a large majority of this country growing up homeless, uneducated and starving in poverty.”

“Where are your solutions, righties? Don't have any- all you have is negativity, fear, and more negativity. I want to be a rightwinger, so I can covet my precious tax money, make sure there are guns for all, anytime, anywhere, protect every fetus (because before they become liberals or are actually born, we care), and offer nothing but tax-cuts, and abstinence education, when I'm not telling everyone that government doesn't work. Oh, and no Science. All you have to do is say "God Bless..." whatever, and you're in! And don't forget to fear- fear everything!”

“Our teabaggers are eager to pay higher and higher premiums to the insurance cartels. I say let them. Let the rest of us have the choice of a public option. We're already paying for Iraq's health care, so why isn't that "Socialism" good enough for the taxpayers footing that bill?

Oh, and I would like to see the teabagging coalition make a pledge that they will renounce all "Socialist" public health care programs such as Medicare, Veteran's Care, and Social Security benefits.”

Competition is the cornerstone of the Free Market ideal they hold so sacrosanct. One thing the health care debate has made crystal clear is that the majority of Congress has been bought by Big Business.”

Health Insurance Cartels? We love em'! Pharmaceutical companies increasing drug prices every six months; Capitalism at its best!!

Got any alternatives, other than spewing every negative-nelly scenario that can be copied from Faux Noise sites? The Chicken Little routine is getting really old.”

“If America was actually run according to neoCon economic and social conservative ideals, we would look like East Germany, circa 1970s. Thank God for the "Godless liberals" who are here to give a hoot about the poor and disenfranchised.

If you pay your credit card bills on time, every time, and STILL have your interest rates jacked up to 30% overnight, that's just the free market for you, according to our kind-hearted righties. What a load of garbage.

Want to know why there are fewer of you nutters out there today? Because a lot of them have been humbled by this economic crisis, and have suddenly found some empathy- for themselves at least.”

“Lieberman is feeding on the nihilism of the rightwing obstructionists. All lieing, skeeving Lieberman-clones should be forced to disclose every penny they've received from the health insurance cartels, and pharmaceutical industry. This includes Lincoln, Landreu and Nelson. Let the American people see where the "opposition" is really coming from.

Corporate welfare: Plenty to go around. Health care reform to benefit ordinary Americans: A travesty to the conservative/rightwing black-hearted faction. These people literally make me sick. We need reform of our entire political system- 5 political hacks shouldn't have the power to bulldoze over the will of the majority of Congress and the American people.”

“The Democrats keep allowing the rethugs to move the goal line. Why do they do this? The Dems allowed 72 hours before the vote was taken, so the pugs could "read the bill." They knew they would get not one pug vote no matter what they did, but they altered legislation and made numbskull concessions anyway. I am ecstatic over the vote tonite, but it happened despite the Dem leadership's attempts at faux-bipartisanship. You can't bargain with obstructionist nihilists.”
