The Cost of Corporate Communism

The Cost of Corporate Communism

Commented Oct 11, 2009 at 09:40:40 in Business

“Capitalism is a fundamental concept in the American psyche.

The average person cannot wrap their brain around the concept that their vaunted, capitalist economic system is really communistic. They cannot grasp this because they have been indoctrinated with a false view of what our system really is and how it really works. Since birth, Americans are told that capitalism is the greatest economic system in the world and that America is great and the envy of the rest of the world as a result of our strict adherence to it.

I don't know how you get the average person to look past the superficial description of our system to get to its true nature. This is like asking a fundamentalist to question the existence of God. They are not capable of understanding the request and, if they are capable, they are afraid what they might find on the other side of their investigation.”

Gay Rights Speech: What Should Obama Say Tonight?

Commented Oct 10, 2009 at 20:31:16 in Politics

“Religion has nothing to do with the concept of rights. In fact it is quite the opposite; rights were put forward as a way to avoid the religious complications, ambiguities and contradictions of religious doctrines.

The concept of rights that is the underpinning of our Constitution, Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence arose out of the social contract theories of Locke, Hobbes and Rousseau and are devoid of religious arguments, justifications and theories. So trying to bring religion into the discussion about whether or not a group should be granted rights is antithetical to the very core of what rights are and how our rights based laws came into being.

So, unless you can come up with some non-religious argument against gays being granted equal rights, go play Dogma Shoots and Ladders somewhere else.”

“I agree with Scarborough about the current, unsavory state of political discourse and the need for reason and civility.

However, I disagree with his equating the Right’s attacks on Clinton and Obama with the Left’s of Bush. The Democrats in Congress did not spend millions of dollars on special prosecutors, tie up Congressional business for months on end and impeach Bush (not that they didn’t have cause to do so). Many also voted often with Bush’s and the Republican’s major bills. Clinton got no such support from Republicans and they have made it very clear that their approach, to a person, with Obama will be to say “No” to any and all policies. This is not a slight, tactical difference. This is the difference between politics and zealotry.”

“Capitalism in the U.S. exists solely because we, as a society, have decided it is the best economic system to generate goods, services and capital. That we have encouraged and supported capitalism through our laws and efforts should be given serious consideration by those who benefit the most from the system. A social debt is owed and the bill is way past due.”

“Any economic system gone unchecked or improperly regulated will run into serious problems. The problem lies in the theoretical construct that fails to take into consideration the dark side of people's natures, like greed. Once these are allowed in the system, or worse, encouraged, the benefits to society that capitalism can create, stop and it becomes a detriment to society.”

“Forsetti -- so we are going to see an end to corporatist-fascist govt, right? I sense it, and I think it's about to happen, because our present system is unsustainable. May our our President Obama who seems to keep all options open, seize this one, once and for all, for we the people.”

“I believe that any legislation where it can be proven that the legislator or lobbyist caused damage to this country by not upholding the oath of protecting America from enemies foreign and domestic should be subject to criminal charges. What has been happening is that laws have been changed to make criminality legal and this has been at a devastating cost to our country that our whole justice system is absolutely broken.”
