“I cannot figure out for the life of me why this Veteran was beaten to death. What a sad ending for a man who fought for all for which this Country stands, and all of her inhabitants.”

“Stopshouting, you are right on target. When crimes like this happen that apparently are race related, the President needs to speak out personally against ALL of them, be it White on Black or Black on White. He is the President of the United States, not the President of African Americans who happen to live in the United States.”

“There is nothing wrong with traditional Southern cooking. Years ago folks had much more physical activity in their lives; climbing stairs, walking to school or work, farming, washing clothes by hand and then hanging the clothes on a clothesline to dry (I use my clothesline all the time even though I have a dryer-Solar Energy!!!), doing housework with no vacuum cleaners, etc. The extra calories they took in with this style of cooking would be burned off in day to day activities.
Also, in traditional Southern cooking, many folks grew their own food. Chicken, Collard greens, melons of all types, Black Eyed peas, corn for Cornbread, Okra, etc. Don't forget the deer, Gopher turtles, alligators, fish, etc. they hunted. My Father grew up in Florida during the Depression; during that time he fished often in lakes here in Orlando in order to put food on the table. He never lost the habit of fishing.; this is why I grew up with a rod and reel in my hand
Now, believe it or not, even many of us Southerners eat very healthily. I try to eat as much produce and fresh meat (turkey, chicken, etc.) as possible as opposed to more processed foods. I also usually get up at 4 am on weekdays and either go for a 45 minute walk or to the YMCA to swim for 55 minutes.
We still enjoy traditional Southern cooking here; we just don't eat it every day.”

And I see sadness in
the eyes of the one to the right
They are doing the best they can
under their circumstance

I could not bring a child into the world
under those conditions.. it is heartbreaking
for both the parents and the children, to be honest.
I am not a Pollyana.”

“It seems there is a wide range of human interests that can cross gender lines. When I was very young my Mother dressed me in sweet little girl clothes. My parents gave me dolls for Christmas. I can only imagine what they thought the Christmas I requested toy dinosaurs; to their credit they gave me my beloved animals. Now, at 57, I am a straight woman who has an interest in things traditionally male and female. While I do love to knit, cook, dress in feminine clothes (on the rare occasions when I can), etc. I also enjoy hiking, kayaking, fishing, camping, watching stuff on History and Military channels, and so on. By the way, I still love dinosaurs.”

“Depression is a disease. I have dealt with this for most of my life; as well as dealing with a severe case of OCD. It's so easy to dismiss mental disorders as something that the sufferer can just"get over". No, you cannot just snap your fingers, and hey! it's gone. No one tells diabetics to just get over it; neither should those with depression be expected to do the same.”

“I am so sorry for your twin; and your grief.
I would bet if he had lived he would be very happy to know how much he was loved. :)
My Mother told me that she and her Doctor believed she had miscarried between my brother (1950) and myself (1955). I know this sounds really dumb, but every once in a while, when I am alone, I tell my lost sibling how much I love him/her, and am looking forward to seeing him/her on the "flip side", as it were.”

“Dear ROFLatYOU,
It's fine that you don't care what I would like to see; and that you will get back to me when I matter.
Make fun of me if you will, but please don't forget that God will get back to you when you ask Him, that He doesn't care what you would like to see, but He cares about what you need to see and no matter what you say or do He will love you always because you are His child.
I will ask God to bless you, and He will. His blessing may not come in the form you would want, but that is the way it works.
I learned this the hard way.

Between my forensic work and the things I've seen in the jail I've thought, nothing can ever shock me again. Of course I keep getting shocked. If there is any program anywhere that can help, and transform, those who commit such crimes I am all for it.”

“What would happen if an African American walked into a job tomorrow and called a White person a Cracker? How would this be explained to HR? I am a native of Florida, and so am a Florida Cracker in the popular vernacular. I don't mind if anyone (Black, White, Norwegian, Nigerian, Albanian, Chinese, etc.) uses the term Cracker simply to recognize my Florida roots (third generation native!!!) but if an African American were to use the term Cracker when referring to me in a derogatory way, I would be offended. What do you think HR would do in my case?”
