“It wasn't only the party of no who threw us under the bus. At least with the repubs you know what they're all about. The quality of representation we have received from our democratic "leaders" over the last 10 years feels more like a 3 card monty scam. Lot's of lip service and hand wringing and then magically somehow the corporate agenda is always passed.

“No. The big picture will reveal that congress is made up of 535 individuals with different motives. Ben Nelson represents a state with fewer people than the city I live in. He receives more money from healthcare than he can possibly receive from constituents. He is not alone. Our system of government has checks and balances to avoid legislation from being slammed dunked. This particular legislation should be the priority for all congress people including the party of no. Several years ago the campaign finance laws made it necessary for these people to raise money. That is part of the problem. Many years ago we were convinced that the government was bad and that contributes to the problem. We have a media that leans right because it is owned and controlled by the military industrial complex. We get bad information from the news. The public has been dumbed down into believing the lies they hear on certain networks. It is very complicated and frustrating but it is the system we have and we have to elect better people. That is our only leverage. We go to the ballot box and vote these people out of office.”

“Your misplaced party loyalty will be your demise. If all the disaffected libs went republican it would change the entire political landscape. The right would have to change their positions to accomodate their big tent. The Dems would spend some time self reflecting out time in the weeds. The talking heads would explode (yay!), the political class would actually have to work instead of playing their constituents against each other and perpetually groveling for corporate money in exchange for favorable legislation They would not know what to do.”

Rather than spending money supporting toothless legislation movements that are always shot down by big $$, boycott the offending and the offensive.
Vote with your dollars.
More importantly, let them know they lost revenue every time you choose another option.

They will change their minds when it hit's their pocketbooks.
They always do.
It is the American way after all.”

“About 25 years ago in Illinois, a law was passed refusing a marriage license to people unless they took an HIV test. Back then they cost $250 and wasn't covered by insurance. Many people decided to jump over the border and marry in states where a test wasn't required. About a year and a half later, when the state realized how much revenue was lost from marriage licensing, the governor repealed the law but tried to claim a moral victory.
Maine is unique in that it is the only state in this region where same-sex couples cannot marry. If same-sex couples living in Maine want to marry, cross the border. Eventually, people will realize the loss in revenue and be more receptive. Look at Ohio - they passed a referendum legalizing gambling yesterday. It's all about the money, after all.”

???
We have all seen what "trickle down" policies and politics has done, we tried the conservative approach for decades and it landed us where we are today, The so called fiscally responsible conservative Bush administration managed to give the Clinton surplus to the top Bush administration's supporting uber income achievers ( you know, his "base") and still bankrupted the country.
If we are to prevail financially, we will need a new and different approach to health care that is truly fair, equitable and financially balanced.
Doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results is just plain CRAZY.”
