“Funny. :-) Yes I think you're on to something Roy. I'm guessing she like Hawaiians better when they're serving her drinks out of carved out island fruit and showing her "deference". .

She was doing some damage control (in her mind anyway) over her dad's comments and did everything she could to be noticed - but then was noticed - and that just won't do because that makes sense. (??) She also I'm thinking wasn't thrilled with some of the photos that were taken. Everyone remembers during the election when an unflattering picture made the cover of - was it Newsweek?- unretouched. The tea baggers prefer their Sarah pretending to run in pantyhose. I notice she also had forgotten to drape an America flag over the dunes. She never goes anywhere without an American flag to drape. It brings out the color of her eyes.

So she quit again. But it was someone else's fault. That "gosh darned" gotcha media.”

Senator Lieberman: The Joe I Know

Commented Dec 18, 2009 at 01:23:35 in Politics

“You seem a very decent man, Jim. Who's struggling hard to remember the decency that did - or you believed did - exist in Joe Lieberman.

The problem you have now with the negative way he's perceived now is that it has little to do with some policy position. It has to do with a completely tawdry way he's had of flipping and flopping and announcing beliefs, going back on them because "it made liberals happy" and making it quite clear that his position has little to do with conviction over what's best for the country and everything to do with what feels good to Joe Lieberman. Which speaks nothing good of the man. If he didn't want it that way, if he wanted to be worthy of the respect you seem to honestly feel, then he should have kept his friend Jim Kennedy in mind and conducted himself as someone worthy of the respect.

He's behaved badly. The worst being this insistence on calling himself an Independent. I'm an Independent Jim. I know Independents. Joe Lieberman is no Independent. He's a an angry former Democrat and presently a Republican. Unless he flips again. No one would be surprised.

You still seem like a good man though. So remember that and don't defend Joe LIeberman. I somehow sense that he wouldn't defend you - if there was something in it for him in not. Know what I mean?”

Supreme Court about to Gut Campaign Finance Laws...and Democracy?

Commented Dec 16, 2009 at 00:36:42 in Politics

“Whenever I read things like this I remember a tv show that I didn't want to watch because I thought it was over the top. I watched because my husband wanted to and there was pizza and so.... And I was glad I did - and horrified because it seemed to echo something I was watching in my real world.

Did you ever see "Jericho"? It was a drama about corporations taking over America and the lengths to which they'd go. I swear when I read articles like this about institutions that are supposed to protect me and my country - you - from the corporations and individuals with agendas I have to wonder how much of a "drama" it was.”

Clemency for Huckabee

Clemency for Huckabee

Commented Dec 13, 2009 at 21:27:46 in Politics

“It bothers me too David. And I say that as a Christian (a really faulty leaky lousy one) but one who believes absolutely in the separation of church and state.

And if it was fair for Huck to free him I can accept that and not lambast him years after the fact if that were the REASON to free him. Fairness weighted by his responsibility as a representative of the secular state he was elected to govern. He could make a judgement call and it end up being a mistake. But I sense that it had nothing to do with being fair and everything to do with his extremely personal religious beliefs. Religious beliefs that I have every reason to believe that in their evangelical form would never extend to reciprocal mercy for a Michael Dukakis if the RNC had their way.

Does that lay the blame squarely at his feet? No. As you say Clemmons babbled insanity about being Barack Obama's brother to another parole board. (I kind of smiled when you wrote that. All I could think of was the movie Six Degrees of Separation. "But he said he was the son of Sidney Portier!") But he was free to be there babbling because of what Huckabee did. And I think he did it because he was treating his government job like it was church.”

Commented Dec 13, 2009 at 18:11:49 in Politics

“I can appreciate your argument David. But there's a problem with what Huckabee did that goes beyond politics as usual.

You said it yourself: " if justice were to be truly blind, the men (and now women) administering it must not be swayed by pressure from an emotional electorate." But that's exactly what Huckabee did. Not for political reasons - for religious ones. The jury is still out (pun intended or not) but the fact is it was apparently well known that if someone had discovered religion then Huckabee was emotionally swayed by that and was appealing to his religious base with his pardons. We live daily with the fact that the Right have totally blurred those lines as religion and politics are bound in a love knot and you can't really tell the difference when looking at the agenda of the Republicans - but his action is one of the ways that happened. He intertwined religion with politics and helped create that particular problem.

A "Willie Horton for a Willie Horton" in this case might be absolute justice since justice can't be blind when it's blinded not by politics but by religion where it does NOT belong. So when deciding how to treat him this goes beyond politics and straight to the heart of one party in the 2 party system seemingly haunting the halls of our government with a "holy ghost".”

After he was accused of sexual abuse and told people that he was Barack Obama's brother it is the fault of terrible parole enforcement that they didn't realize he was absolutely crazy or choose to lock him up on his second-degree rape charges.”

Then because of a project I had reason to be around her listening to her talk and watching her in action. From the moment she spoke it was the most amazing thing. She physically got uglier. She was an unpleasant person and her mouth shaped around the unpleasant comments. Her mouth and her eyes actually got ugly. Her movements were pushy and you no longer saw a pretty figure - just a Mac truck barreling down at you.

I thought I was imagining it til I heard men comment on it. I thought they all thought she was a babe. Nope. She technically had all the model pretty when she was sitting still. But the moment she animated - they didn't want anything to do with her. It was kind of fascinating.”

“No, it's not okay to lie if you're a woman. Sarah's gotten away with many things that she'd never get away with if she were a man. (If Joe Biden had turned to Gwen Ifill in the debate and said "I may not answer your questions but just talk straight to the American people - the response would have been "It's a DEBATE man. They ask questions and you answer them!" and he would have been roundly mocked.

She plays victim well and often in advance. (She won't debate Gore on climate change because ...what was the advance whine? Oh - his friends would rig it against her (by following debate procedure? See above) and "he wouldn't want to lower himself to debate little old Sarah from Wasilla". He didn't call her a hick - she just planted the idea that he did. In otherwise she lied. Thereby she dodges having to defend her lies and her martyrdom is insinuated for future accountability dodges.

That they won't treat her the way any polician is treated is because she's hiding behind her powder puff is breathtaking double standard and it's kept her from accountability for lies and lack of basic knowledge. She's allowed to get away with it because she's a woman and that ought to make any woman cringe. For that matter - it should make men cringe. Special deference for little old Sarah from Wasilla. Dear Lord.”

“Because she doesn't just disagree texassteph. She disagrees without anything to support her own argument beyond basically "God told me so". (Or in this case - the neocons told her so.) Because her argument isn't intellectually honest - she does no reading or thinking on this topic. The only she does read are missives from the oil industry and big business who very much want to keep on pumping up that atmosphere and pumping up her career.

She can't even keep climate and weather straight. There might be someone with an opposing view that could write an op-ed and there would be room for debate. Palin isn't it. She's the equivilant of the people who kept insisting the sun orbited the earth or that the earth was flat. Long after it was clear that something else was going on.

She's a 2 dimensional person with no real interest or concern for anything but her own private agenda. And as for power always thinking it has vast views? Well that's what Bush had - and what Palin would very much like to have.

“"deniers for hire". You just described her career Rep. Markey.

I believe this is why she quit her job as govenor of Alaska. It was to free herself up to be a professional troublemaker. Another Betsey McCoughey. From death panel to global warming denial and all points in between. All she has to do is sit behind Facebook or the smoke screen set up for her by Rupert Murdoch at the Wall St. Journal or Charles Krauthammer at the Washington Post and allow her ghost writer to toss a wrench into the works to keep anything from working for as long as possible. She creates trouble. She's for hire.

If we ever saw her sitting on a panel debating with experts or even other pols who are informed and having to hold her own and be interrupted and jump right in herself with a salient point or a statistic and carry on the conversation for 20 minutes or an hour defending her "beliefs" against people who know their stuff - she'd be lost. But that won't happen of course because actually defending her position isn't her job.

And I type that with my lily white hands. They were so sure that if nothing else "That One" couldn't win for that reason alone. I'm so delighted they were wrong.

Excellent breakdown of their collective nervous breakdown Mr. Elisberg. Sorest losers in the history of politics. And he's the worst.

And yes there are a lot of happy people out there thrilled that Mr. McCain and Ms. Palin didn't win the election. Only the more accurate word for me is "relieved". If Health Care Fails, They'll Blame Women

Commented Dec 08, 2009 at 10:56:22 in Politics

“You will never get help from the women on the Republican side. It's not going to happen. In light of the new "purity" tests for all politicians - and the purity rating will be all that much harder for women politicians thanks to the anti-woman stance set by St. Sarah of Wasilla - Republican women will never get on board.

Or there will be a few outside of actual governance, women of the PUMA type I'm sure you're familiar with, who like to talk up women's rights while supporting the party that stomps on them. But when it comes down right to it it's just posturing. Republicans as a party obstruct every attempt by Democrats to help women - then turn around and scoff at Democrats for not helping women. And Republican women are their biggest enablers. That's not likely to change - especially in the era of the Tea Bag.

Go on a right wing board and holler "Come on ladies"! See how far you get before they run you off. .”

She proudly voted for McCain-Palin as a blow for the sisterhood, after all, and founded her "women's advocacy" group on the premise that "ladies" should just hush up about reproductive rights already because it's sooo divisive a topic. She only hauls out the abortion rights issue when she thinks she can use it to sew dissent against the president or smear all men as the oppressors.

As for right wing message boards, Siskind is not above trolling Free Republic for support on red meat issues. But she has been smart enough to avoid the "c'mon ladies!" schtick over there. In short, she is a hypocrite.”
