Obama Team Stops Another 9/11, Gets Help From Unlikely Source (Najibullah Zazi's Lawyer)

The tools evolve as our society and technology evolves - Bush's Team didn't invent this stuff and failed worse than any other in recent history.”

“We have no choice - we have to stick it out. At least Pres Obama seems willing to take the steps the military suggests are necessary to succeed, unlike the previous Administration.
So, aside from its potential of becoming the President’s “Vietnam,” what can be done to secure U.S. support for doing the right thing – seeing a war suffering from mismanagement by the previous Administration through to reasonable closure?”

“Thank goodness! More people need to talk about how public health care makes good business sense.
Another consideration: public care might actually produce more jobs. Not only in health care. Ultimately, only corporate big-wigs need to worry about their personal bottom line. Their EEs will most likely find positions w/i the same industry, govt or other industries as freed-up dollars enable business to invest in growth and citizens to buy more.
I've seen the combined monthly average a business and EE spend on health care range from $300 to $1,000+. Imagine the impact of freeing up even a small portion of this....”

Perhaps, if they'd stuck to their principles, they'd be more highly favored, in less risk of being voted out (b/c when you spend all your time trying to soothe those that didn't and are unlikely to vote for you at the expense of those who did, you really think you're chances of winning have improved?) and possibly be one of the most successful Congresses in history.
Instead, this Congress is being led around by those who lost control, which means their watered-down bills are coming out helpless, hapless and wimpy.”

Malkin and Fox News Are Stalking Children Again
Commented Aug 12, 2009 at 20:53:33 in Politics
“Personal stories and their impact on our society are missing to an ever greater extent from the public option discussion.
For example, consider what happens to the families with children suffering traumatic injuries, such as the families of Abigail Taylor and Taylor Strand. Unfortunately, Abigail Taylor (6) did not survive her injuries. (Maybe Fox should focus on the stories of these two girls and their families, instead.)
In our current system, we expect these families to bare the burden of the medical costs insurance will not cover. Because of this unrealistic expectation, communities often ultimately bare these costs in the form of donated $ and services, lost wages and productivity, lawsuits, debt, bankruptcy, etc.
A public option might at least bring balance to the cost burdens insurance will not cover yet has had a hand in inflating.

“It would be cool to compare poll watcher tallies with the "official recorded vote".
Not conclusive, but certainly indicative.
If the Dem & Rep watchers counts are consistently higher, then we have some serious evidence. (I can't believe that every Rep volunteer would be complicit in a fraud, I just know too many decent Republicans - they aren't uncommon.)
To be honest, we NEED a serious case of verifiable voter fraud in this country to wake people up to the dangerously irresponsible and cavalier ad hoc approach that we are forced to endure now.”

“Couldn't CA refuse to enforce it? Who would have standing to challenge CA's decision to ignore the ban in court?
Most state constitutions have provisions that are ignored. For example, a few prohibit certain forms of taxation, which are ignored. Others have very clear church-state separation provisions that are ignored. I'm sure if a thorough scan of CA's constitution was performed, people would find one or more provisions that aren't being enforced.”

How much hate do you have to have when you vote to STRIP rights from someone and destroy their lives?
If Loving vs Virginia were left up to popular vote, black and whites wouldn't be able to marry.

“The answer to Ms. Marsh's question is that it depends on how the concern is expressed.
In the ad, the concern is expressed in terms of Senator McCain being at risk of dying from cancer. We're all at risk of dying from something.
The ad doesn't make any suggestion as to why this is important to the voting populace: fear that Governor Palin would then become President.
Without that, the ad reflects a general concern about any person who might become President: that they might pass while in office. It has little relevance without spelling out the real concern: that Sarah Palin will inherit the Presidency.”

If Dems (and Republicans) give Secretary Paulson carte blanche on this bill/program with no limitations, requirements, etc, then they are contributing to the problem.
It's not like no one knew that the current economic crisis was going to happen; there were stories leading up to the current crisis since the start of this decade. We're now going to reward the greed and hubris that led to this crisis?
Shouldn't we be rewarding something else?”
