Democrats Now "All In" On Healthcare Reform

“Funny isn't it how all the media coverage just glosses over the mandate. What will they mandate next? To me it's a question of civil liberties. The auto insurance argument is flawed. Owning and operating a vehicle is optional, living and breathing is not. States are allowed to opt out of the public option, but individuals are not allowed to opt out of the mandate forcing them to purchase for profit private insurance policies with no guarrantee of services in return.
I have no problem with mandates when everyone pays on a regulated scale such as Social Security and receives benefits provided by a government agency regulated and overseen by our elected government. I have a problem with being forced to play the greed game with for profit corporations.”

“The auto insurance argument makes little sense if any.
The purpose of auto insurance is to protect other drivers. The purpose of health insurance is cover one's self.”

“Prop 13 helps me remain in my home by restraining property taxes. Are you promoting inflating property taxes in order to pay waste, fraud and abuse by our current administration?”
Pliny the Elder replied on Nov 24, 2009 at 11:58:01
“Prop 13 also allows a tiny minority of Republican representatives to block any tax increase, thus rendering your state an ungovernable mess. Also, if your home is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, you should not be paying taxes on it as if it were worth tens of thousands. That is not how taxes work.”

“Maybe because for some of us it has been two years not just a matter of months. Some of us have been very patient. We were promised change, and the only changes we have noticed are fewer jobs, more homeless, and additional expenses in the form of higher fees and local taxes because our states are in trouble, and now we have to budget for mandatory insurance premiums or face a fine and higher utility bills if the climate reform passes not mention continuing to watch gasoline prices manipulated by the very people we bailed out Things have really changed.”

In fact the poorer the rest of us are the more control they have over our personal lives, property and civil liberties.”

“I think the investment in an infrastructure that would allow all residents of the US free access to basic internet connectivity could be a boon to our economy and something we should consider. I am certain the telecom industry wouldn't go for it, but they could like cable tv sell their optional services. Like with tv, anyone that can purchase a tv and a converter box can receive tv broadcasts. Why do we have to pay to connect with the internet? I know there are a few free providers out there, but they limit the hours or are short lived. Think of the innovation that may result with more people connected.”

“If we are really interested in creating jobs we wouldn't focus on business we would focus on industry and the manufacturing of useful goods and services. Business today equates to nothing more than a con game played with funny money. Warren Buffett is a man that really has done nothing except be a stock broker his entire life. The type of person that has benefitted time and again from moving valuable manufacturing overseas in order to squeeze every drop of profit out of it with no concern for the good of the society he resides in. Because the elite 1% don't identify with any society they only identify with greed.”

It does not have to import conservation or technology if we get off the old grids, systems and technologies.”

“In an immediate sense it would not. The market has to go through a correction before it can become vibrant again. In the long term, with a strong sound currency, low national debt, good interest rates and sound corporate tax policies our country would be attractive for job creation and investment. This can be done without child labor or insane work place dangers and our people would have money that actually has value.
Right now our money is rapidly depreciating while inflation rises. Hence why everyone wants to dump dollars. Milk costs twice as much as it did five years ago. Ie. our money does not buy as much. It doesnt matter if we make 1 million a year if basic living costs are 1.5 million.
Our government policy just defies common sense. The idea that we will fix the economy by going into greater debt is silly. Report after report show that these measures are not working. We are losing foreign investors in droves. Our own companies would rather go overseas than stay here. All because we would rather go into more debt to temporarily stave off a market correction that cannot be stopped. At some point we will have to bite the bullet.”

“Perhaps you should have watched the history channel last night. they showed pictures of Japanese civilians on Saipan jumping to their deaths, taking their children with them rather than surrender. Saipan was tiny and only about 1,000 civilians killed themselves.
The scene was repeated on Okinawa.
Japanese civilians in Japan were being taught to fight to the death.
My wife's brother fought in the Battle of the Bulge, then through Germany into Czechoslovakia. He was going to be transferred to the Pacific for the invasion of Japan. Do I think dropping nukes on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a better dead than having millions of Japanese civilians die killing our troops? Damn right I do.
Do not forget such atrocities as the Rape of Nanking. When some chines rescued some American pilots and crew after the Doolittle raid on Tokyo, the Japanese slaughtered 250,000 civilians as a lesson.
And do remember that the Japanese started the war in 1937, long before Pearl harbor.”
