46 Injured In 50-Car Pileup In Shelton, Connecticut

Commented Dec 13, 2009 at 20:18:50 in New York

“I lived in Shelton, CT. It's the black ice. One time a 30 minute commute took 4 + hours.

It only takes one car to start a chain reaction. All the cars are bumper-to-bumper.

Ugh!”

“That's sounds like the ride I had home on Friday. It was freezing here in Oregon and by whatever luck there were very few really bad wreaks. I was creeping down the interstate at 30 MPH in third gear.”

“I see your point. But, the saying is pretty true.

My goal when 'arguing' is to, if possible, change someone's mind so that they agree with me. If they zone me out on a technicality, shame on me.

And by calling this gentleman lawyer a 'weasel' and telling him 'people hate you', O'Reilley demonstrated to me that he has no basis for his position, just bluster. So, I zoned him out.”

That lawyer is doing an unpleasant aspect of his life's work. No complaining, even faced up to the great Bill O'Reilly. That lawyer didn't choose the court. Holder did.

Bill O'Reilly is the coward.”

“There was no 'insurance' component to the derivatives being purchased by the Wall Street Banks. The banks were wagering against a 3rd party's ability to collect, not hedging their own position.

It was just a means of directing payments into the Ponzi scheme.”

Knocking Down The Biggest Excuse For The Bailout

Commented Nov 24, 2009 at 12:27:53 in Politics

“AIG FP was running an illegal Ponzi scheme all along. All the 'investors' understood this.

Every contract written by AIG FP was determined to have a risk of $0 in claims. It all went to the bottom line, and got paid out as bonuses. They learned the secret of how to turn lead into gold, and attached a perpetual motion machine to it. Any relationships between risk and reward ceased to exist.

Their analysis was based on their knowledge that housing would rise 5% per year, forever. No matter whether borrowers defaulted or not, the ever-rising property values would heal all wounds.

They were all in on it. AIG, Wall Street Banks, Rating Agencies.

Since it was a Ponzi scheme, it had to collapse eventually. Prime loans, sub-prime, makes no difference. Ponzi schemes always collapse.

So, file charges for Ponzi and Racketeering. Let the courts decide.”

“A hedge is where you pay an insurance company an monthly fee against the bankruptcy of something you've invested in. The fee is lower if the company in which you're invested has been around for 100 years like Lehman Brothers. Entities like school districts and small cities use hedges to guarantee their investments will never wipe them out. There's nothing illegal about it and there shouldn't be.

What we needed and still need is an agency that looks at how something like housing prices affects securities values in many different industries.”

Palin Is Nixon, Minus The Smarts

“Her 'abstinence only' education stance is an attack on ALL our daughters.

Unfortunately for Palin's daughter, she was a simple, perfect poster child for all that is wrong with that outdated theory. And the daughter was right there to highlight her own mother's gross hypocrisy. Not pretty, but inevitable. (Karl Rove would approve).

Then they compound it with the 'abstinence only' advocacy by the daughter, coinciding with the cover of People Magazine.”

Katie Couric was mean to me.

Still has never held a press conference.

If she'll lie about things that are easily checked, and found false, of course people will be skeptical.

If the A/P doesn't fact check, what credible source will? You wouldn't consider the Huffington Post fair and balanced, or the denizens of the blogosphere, either. Should we wait for Fox News to do the fact checking?”

If you were being extorted from then after you made payments you would start to seek a remedy. The President has the power to nationalize private institutions for the nation's safety.

You can't have it both ways.”

“No, at a certain level of incompetence, the results don't get any worse. It would be nearly impossible to be a worse President than Idiot Boy was. 8 more years could make things worse, but that's just due to the effects of compounding interest.

Although I will agree she is more vocal in her extremism, maybe Idiot Boy was just more polite.”

Palin Is Nixon, Minus The Smarts

Commented Nov 24, 2009 at 11:12:50 in Politics

“AnnfromCA, I've seen all the same things you have, and draw a very different conclusion.

I remember in 1972 when Tom Eagleston had to quit as Democratic VP candidate because some reporter discovered Eagleston had received electro-shock treatments. Scrutiny of candidates is nothing new.

She's the shining light for Conservatives. And she's evasive with the truth. And she carries all those kids around like props, everywhere she goes.

Of course she will be examined. That doesn't make her a 'victim' of smears or anything else.”

AnnfromCA replied on Nov 24, 2009 at 11:35:51

“The attacks on her daughter were very much noted by women, even those who voted against her.

That was unprecedented.

The strategy to bankrupt her through frivolous ethics charges offends MANY of us, who really did know what Alaska was facing in terms of ethical problems. Unbelievable.

Whether you agree or disagree with her politics is beside the point. Not only has a very popular governor been the subject of sleaze attacks, so have her supporters been painted as stupid.

The tactic backfired badly with Palin. She outlines the attacks, and I'll be darned if the liberal press didn't turn around and do it again with their absurd fact-checking story by the mainstream AP. Did you bother to actually read it?

One point they made was that she stayed in a hotel that offered robes. I'm serious.

You think people are too stupid to know how nutty that is?

You're wrong.”

Belichick: The Long and Short of It

Commented Nov 18, 2009 at 17:01:15 in Sports

“It's even simpler than that.

If you agree that the cliche 'Whichever team has the ball last will win' applied to Sunday night's game, then Belichik did the right thing. He tried to be the team with the ball last. Manning was getting a TD from either 29 yard line (100% long, 100% short?).

Having failed on 4th down, what if the Patriots allowed the Colts to score on their 1st play? Then it would be 2 minutes, down by a point, receiving a kickoff, and Tom Brady has to get you into field goal territory. I like those odds, too.”
