Just think how good it would be for the economy if he just shipped all the unemployed, and homeless people somewhere else. After all, there are thousands and thousands of jobs in China, India, and the Philippines that used to be American jobs.”

What with the ridiculous delay times for comments being posted, and the (seemingly) uneven moderation, I've almost reached the point where I don't consider it worth the bother anymore.”

“"Obama also is expected to continue for one year a tax break for businesses that allows them to deduct the full value of new equipment."

I've been more than a little concerned about this one since it was introduced. Quite often new equipment increases efficiency, allowing business to shed jobs, not create them. It should at least be amended so that the break can only be claimed when extra jobs are created as a result of the equipment purchase. Otherwise it is just another loophole to be exploited.”

“Steer manure.
Deal with the abusive comments after they have been posted, it's easy enough to put filters in to keep the swear words out. That will keep the debate flowing nicely. If people persistently post unsavory comment get rid of them with a 'three strikes and you're out' system.
The way it is being moderated at the moment makes Huffington Post more like Big Brother than a liberal site.”

hp blogger Macgregor Thomson on Sep 7, 2011 at 11:36:35

“I can see why that might work in theory, but in my experience, discussions on sites that use that method are too often overtaken by vitriolic comments. See my response to a different user here.”

“We've had the war on terrorism, the war on drugs, the war on poverty. Why does America never learn from its mistakes? Isn't it about time that we started admitting to major fail on terrorism, major fail on drugs, major fail on poverty? We could also add quite a few more major fails to the list. Recognising failure usually leads to finding solutions, America needs to learn that lesson.”
