“The Senate was not meant to be democratic. It was meant to protect the Rich and their property. Read about the founding fathers. They made no bones about what they were trying to do.”

“The free market had it's chance in 29 and 07. We need something the people understand. I remember many bankers on TV telling their audience that credit swaps and the like were too hard to explain to the mob. We need much closer regulation by the government.”

“One big consolation is the new more educated class of folks who recognize that they are being screwed by the the upper class. I do not hear the middle class defending the upper class with the old clichés we always heard before. You are just jealous bla bla bla.”

“The founding fathers wanted one body 0f the legislature to be the protector of property, the rich, and the Senate has done their job exceedingly well for all of these years. You are right. We are no longer a true democracy if we ever were. And I taught government for over 30 years. What a waste.
A Parliamentary system might be worth trying.”

“I agree with you Color. I think this health care debate will serve as a good case study for classroom discussion or a book about when our democracy died. What a shame. Capitalism destroys Democracy. Each greedy interest group thinks its interest trumps the general welfare. Dog eat dog capitalism. I've got mine Jack.

I quit. Good luck.”

We should just call ourselves "Corporate America". It is sad to see what the capitalist system has done to democracy.”

The Great Atomic Film Cover-Up

The Great Atomic Film Cover-Up

Commented Nov 11, 2009 at 18:33:22 in Media

“I have seen a documentary on t v called "Japan's Atomic Bomb". The film clams they had tested a bomb and with a little more time they would have used it on our invasion fleet. I think the film has an authentic story and it should be a part of the discussion on this topic.”

Aardvaark replied on Nov 13, 2009 at 16:47:37

“I've said in other places that the "documentary" should have been called a speculentary. It ignores or glosses over some of the hard realities of wartime Japan. They were short on fuel and electric power that they would need for processing uranium, they didn't have the heavy water, they didn't have the research facilities or the scientists needed.

Japan was having problems just building the planes and ships they needed for war, let alone the barges they needed for shipping to to stay alive.

They also didn't have the means for delivery, except for ships. How close do you think we would have allowed a Japanese ship to get? Submarines would be a possibility, but even then, they were in short supply.

In addition, while Japan had many technological advances in the last 50 years, it was still not really a fully developed technological society. I understand that when the Mitsubishi Zero prototype was built, it was taken from the factory to the airfield on an oxcart.

We had all these farm folk who had been tinkering with tractors and cars that we tapped for our industrial war machine.

Captured Japanese planes had their fairings were hand formed. Since there are many variations in hand-built parts, a lot of time had to be spent to make and fit each one on every plane. We were stamping out the same uniform parts on a press for our planes, and little fitting was needed.

Japan didn't have the infrastructure.”

“I don't know if it is possible for you to find this book or not but the book-
"The Bells of Nagasaki" mentions a Japanese atomic researcher who was in Nagasaki at the time the bomb was dropped and his reaction when he realized what had happened.”
