Peter King: Senate Republicans Should Not Filibuster Gun Control Bill

Peter King: Senate Republicans Should Not Filibuster Gun Control Bill

Commented Apr 9, 2013 at 11:51:44 in Politics

“Lets consider whats best for the protection of ones family. What better way then to know you have a right to arm yourself, and the mentally disturbed, the criminal, the straw purchaser and all those who don't have that right, not being able to. Maybe you would reconsider if one of the previously mentioned moved next door to you?”

“The point is there will be no deal because Republicans will not give up anymore revenue. I am one of those who will be effected by Social Security...so believe me, not looking forward to it. Also agree the defense budget is bloated. Slow your roll my friend, don't really believe we disagree on this, and doubt if either plan will be accepted. But know it's all posturing moves for the 2013 mid-terms, which at this point puts Republicans in quite a bad position.”

“It's been on the table for months! Other than knowing the Republicans won't take any deal which calls for revenue...and that's in the plan. Means the deal is a move of posture for the W.H., and won't go anywhere. And would like to know if anyone has a better plan in this conversation, other than saying."no entitlements."”

Roci on Apr 7, 2013 at 16:42:09

“"Why are elderly people being beaten with a hammer like this while they go after the bloated defense budget with a feather pillow?"

You think I wrote that for nothing? At least read what I write before attempting to argue the point.”

“You did say, "Ken Mehlman", I have a problem with associating one's character or personality to another's...think it unfair. Curious though, would you consider the same regarding Bill Clinton's evolution? To be honest I believe most who have gotten aboard have evolved in the past 20-30 years, and will admit we can expect some to just get with the program as it is becoming more politically correct and self-serving for their agenda. Steele being now out of the loop really has no political agenda left.”

“Not an advocate of Mr. Steele, but not one to fault one for past ideologies when evolution is apart of growth. There have been quite a few who have evolved and accept the changing times, and I respect their now acknowledgement of it....then there are those who just haven't come to terms with it whether their faith or ignorance. Democrat here, and if I were to not acknowledge his evolution, how then could I do it for all the democrats who now have come around?”

MiddleRiver on Mar 19, 2013 at 09:42:56

“I'm much more cynical than you. I believe that people like Mr. Steele have always been moderate in their hearts, but they took hard line positions to advance professionally. Look at Ken Mehlman, a closeted gay man who was George W. Bush's campaign manager and RNC chair, who used anti-gay ballot initiatives in Ohio to help win Bush's re-election. Now he pretends to "see the light." A day late and a dollar short. I suspect he now earns consulting fees to help businesses develop "diversity policies." Follow the money.”

“Good morning! Fortunately we didn't have to deal with it, as it wouldn't have been possible to reinstate the unemployment benefits. Of course the next couple of months will really be worth watching...let's keep an eye and an opinion on it..Happy New Year. (wanted to withold that until decision had been made)”

1Truthseeker on Jan 2, 2013 at 12:34:31

“Hello!  I am grateful for the millions of unemployed that the unemployment benefits have been extended, though at a high price. We only have 1/2 of the revenues needed to realistically reign in the deficit and debt.  What enraged me was to learn of the corporate subsidies and extensions for major corporations, particularly Goldman Sachs.  Voters need to let their legislators know how they feel about this and get them repealed.  We need the billions for the people in our country who are still suffering the nightmare of the last economic implosion.  Calling it a recession is a farce!
Wishing you and your loved ones a New Year filled with Well Being, a raining of Miracles and Peace.”

“Shame of that is...lost for 2 million unemployed now having no income at all, and those that will be added monthly to those statistics. Money that would have immediately been placed back into the system with earning of 10 cents on the dollar. (keep an eye out on the percentage of homelessness, and crime going up)”

1Truthseeker on Jan 1, 2013 at 19:39:07

“It is a shame!  The longterm unemployed deserve to be protected.   My expectation is that if we do go over the cliff it will be easier for the Democrats to secure the necessary unemployment extension.  Right now many of the outgoing  Republicans have no incentive.  There are many among them who will not be there come the 1913 session of Congress.  Maybe slushy Boehner will be replaced.”

“Demorcrat here...but totally agree with your statement. I think it's vitally important to have a (2) party system with views to govern our country, adverse opinions are beneficial as it serves to represent what a democracy is, and the people thereof. The tea party...(I refuse to capitalize it) has very much tarnished the Republican Party, and they have done little to protect themselves from being infected. The days of political party bi-partisianship in order to work together to present and represent americans as a whole....are gone. They pledge now is to obstruct. Without consideration for those who they have duped for votes, instead to represent and serve those who have paid for them.”

“That why was must come into play are the specifics...types of guns, control market places by making them accountable for sales. Gun shows were simple driver licenses are enough, no background check...federal regulations where neighboring states don't afford the opportunity to be more so permissible. And most important data banks running efficently, even transfer of property is dated..they do it with cars...not guns?”

“As long as it's a short drive from urban areas to a lawless, loophole state where gun shows, no background check, private sales, none tracable ...well, think you get the picture. Illegal guns become that way due to unregulated sales of guns. Hell, you even need a bill of sale to purchase a car from someone, even taxed. If paperwork of transfer were necessary people would reconsider selling guns to gangbangers.”

Adam Kazan on Dec 18, 2012 at 14:15:02

“good points, yet it seems there is a supply and demand consideration too: Fewer guns will drive up price, which will attract criminals to markets for these commodities, just like with anything outlawed, e.g., alcohol during prohibition, drugs, prostitution, etc.”

“Crazy as he sounds, lets face the facts of his hold over so many Republicans....not to say they are all crazy...(though it appears that way). Factually speaking, the Teapublicans do have as their agenda to bring down the government, could mean by any means possible, and in a capitalistic society...capital is the way! Enter the Koch brothers and their assault on Unions.
Will be very interesting to watch how they operate....with the thought of...destroying government. I can even see the Koch brother moving businesses within these "right to work" states to illustrate job opportunities..slave labor of course. Only way to combat this is to insure Democrates gain state and Congress elections.”
