“While I don't agree with the examples cited regrading Democratic excesses, I can stipulate that Democrats have, in some cases, abandoned or exposed assets and left them twisting in the wind, but that doesn't excuse Issa for his contemptable action. The village that he is willing to destroy in order to save is U.S. foreign policy. Put simply, accepting your point about excesses on the other side, just how many wrongs do make a right?”
“Anne Romney benefits the Romney-Ryan ticket (and Republicans generally) because she steadfastly refuses to say anything meaningful about what the Republican ticket would do once in office.
Anne Romney benefits the Obama-Biden ticket (and Democrats generally) as people become more aware that she steadfastly refuses to say anything meaningful about what the Republican ticket would do once in office.”
“Seeking to alter the platform with regard to Jerusalem and reference to God were surely self-inflicted wounds for the Democratic Party's electoral efforts. Philip Taylor correctly and properly reminded us of our Founders' thoughts on the matter of God, and inserting ourselves on a matter that should be between the Israelies and the Palestinians only brings into question our role as an honest broker in any future efforts to bring peace to an already volatile region and gives our enemies all over the world yet another excuse to claim that we have no regard for the Palestinians' legitimate aspirations. I don't need to refer to the Republican Party as the new Taliban when Torquemada of the Spanish Inquisition will do. For ourselves, let our platform welcome into the tent all people of good will and a sense of community; inviting theists, ateists and agnostics alike. As newly elected President John F. Kennedy so well said at the end of his inaugural address, "here on earth God's work must truly be our own."”
“Sadly, Obama has shown a disregard for citizen involvement unless it's on his terms and for his agenda. He recently used his executive powers to reallocate scarce justice department resources to deport young people who had no say in their having been brought to the U.S. and promised to use executive orders to do what he could to effect greater gun safety in the country.
When the public actually got involved through the political process to legalize medicinal marijuana and set up dispensaries in eighteen states, the use of scarce justice department resources to thwart the will of the people who campaigned for and achieved political change is perfectly fine, but not apply those resources to those whose actions crashed the economy. Dozens are now in custody on federal drug charges and will be brought to trial; how many 'banksters' have been afforded similar treatment? For those who see these cases as dissimilar, HSBC Bank USA was found by the Office of the Comptroller of Currency to have laundered Mexican drug money, and all they got was a $1.92 billion fine (about five weeks profit), and they continue to operate.
I voted for Obama as a superior alternative to his last two opponents and he has done good things, but I am less than sanguine about his call to citizen activism. Remember Bierce's definition of "optimism": the triumph of hope over experience.”
“Going back to the Posner-Scalia controversy that started all this, ‘textualist’ and ‘originalist’ Scalia had to marginalize and ultimately dismiss the occurrence of the phrase “[a] well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state” as a mere manner of speaking in order to extend gun rights far beyond the intent of the drafters of that amendment by deftly ignoring these words that provided the rationale for even having a right to ‘bear arms’. Talk about “judge-made theories” indeed! I think the word “idiotic” quite properly applies to Scalia’s so-called “philosophy of law” and that he is in no way either a consistent textualist or originalist.”
“"White House Mocks Unions For Backing Progressive Challenger [in Arkansas]: '$10 Million Flushed Down The Toilet' "? No, that money spent in Arkansas was, hopefully, not wasted. That was how much money was spent by Democrats who wanted at least some representation for progressive causes in what state. I'd like to hope that the White House got a different message, but the mocking one was one that I, sadly, expected. After all, who are progressives going to go to for representation? Blanche Lincoln?!?!?!? Obama?!?!?! The White House?!?!?!? No way.... These people are the sort of people that give point to the old saying that voting for the lessor of two evils is still evil....”

“Read the comments that accompany this story on Politico. Several of them note that we spend at least one billion per week on invasions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Given Israel's response to its recent actions in the Mediterranean, the $3.1 billion we give them has gone down the toilet as well. Can't wait to find out which "White House Spokesman" made the comment about the unions. Lincoln must be livid as this comment will certainly result in many union workers withholding support for her in the general election.”
