Obama: Hurry Up On Health Care, Bypass Usual Negotiations

Obama: Hurry Up On Health Care, Bypass Usual Negotiations

Commented Jan 06, 2010 at 08:22:10 in Politics

“If you would like to blame anyone for the type of Bill we end up with, then blame the Grand Obstructionist Party. Republicans refused to honestly negotiate on health care reform. All they did was lie, obstruct and criticize at every turn. They have offered no plan of their own that is even remotely viable. Oh yeah, allow us to by insurance across state lines. That's what a National exchange (House Bill) does - idiots. Oh, and they will give you $5000.00 dollars (that we would have to pay taxes on) to buy insurance that costs $10,000 plus. That's a GREAT plan (snark)! Now, you want the President and the Dems to give them an opportunity to lie, obstruct, and criticize all over again. Republicans would take everything uttered in negotiations, twist the words and lie to the American people about what's really going on with this bill. And the media would help them do it for the sake of theatrics and ratings. We would not even be talking about a Health Care Bill, even starting in 2014, if Palin/McCain had been elected (i got the order right for the tea-baggers i hope). So, please spare me all the phreaking whining and moaning about what you didn't get.

There are some issues I have with this bill, but given the condition that our institutions are in, I was realistic about what we could actually achieve in the first iteration of HCR.”

Kind of like the Liberals did with Rush's comments on health care (not on health insurance)???”

“You pukes can't have it both ways. Obama pushed through the stimulus package, which according to the CBO created 1.6 million jobs so far. The President's stimulus package was designed to be time released so try to keep up. Also, President Obama asked Bush to request the remaining TARP funds while he was still President-elect.. And this administration has done a far better ( not perfect) job of administering the TARP program, no matter how disgusting it is. It was necessary at the time, but now we need to concentrate on Mainstreet. The very thing you folks are complaining about, now, you want to attribute any success to Bush, but won't t subscribe to the obvious failure Bush was.”

“I never saw Bush in a noose. I did see two shoes actually thrown at the former President and I didn't like it. After I saw he was not harmed, I laughed but I still didn't like the President being disrespected in that fashion. I saw Chavez call him the devil and I didn't like it. I respect the office of the Presidency no matter how incompetent the occupant is. I don't like Bush for what he has done and failed to do as a selected President of the USA. His administration was a disaster. Maybe I don't get it, but what has President Obama done to warrant such uncivilized behavior? Please educate me, because you seem to be an apologist for this type of absurd nonsense.”

“Some people are so consumed by hate, they will never get it. Obama's election is both a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing for the majority of us that judge people based on their character and want a unified country and we thought that we were moving forward. It's a curse that the ignorant few, blinded by the disease of racism, act out in ways that sometimes makes you think that this grand experiment called America is not working and we will not be able to free ourselves from the tar pits of ignorance. President Obama has done nothing but raise beautiful children, take care of his family, and serve the American people. But some of you are so willfully ignorant that you justify this behavior like little children with tit for tat nonsense. It's ridiculous to compare this to similar events regarding Sarah Palin and George Bush. Neither of them are black or considered part of the minority. Neither of them had to deal with the terrorism of lynchings in their ancestors' past. When you put a black man and noose in the same sentence, it awakens in many of us sadness and anger as a result of a tragic past - in this country.”

“We might never understand how destructive the Bush administration was for this country. We had 0 (ZERO) net job creation while Bush was President! What President Obama has done so far is totally underestimated. This country was on the verge of going down the drain and he stopped the slide. Bush was a disaster. He should have never been allowed to be SELECTED for the Presidency.”

SoCalDaveO replied on Jan 03, 2010 at 22:29:26

“That's BS.

The recovery was started on Vush's watch...you can thank him. You can thank Obama and a majority of Senators who also voted Bush's way on TARP 1. By the way, the O administration has contributed next to nothing on the recovery...something like fewer than 15% of the recovery money has even been spent during Obama. So his taking a victory lap over something about which he had next to nothing in terms of input and declaring he pulled us back from the brink is a hollow lie.

Obama's rare gift for Johnny Come Lately Credit Taking is something he is very good at...he has done nothing of any clarity to fix the economy...and everything, everything he has tried has been an abject failure and complete mismanagement of funds.”

“This what happens when you elect ideologues to power, meaning Bush and his neo-con internationalist friends, what more than anything will define the Bush legacy was making stupid decisions, than sticking by them with bad policies. When we listen to the DeMints and Palins of the political world, I don't hear people looking toward the future, I see people mired in the past, who make statements of little substance. True practical conservatism died with the rise of neo, movement and social right wing ideology, to call them conservatives is an insult to conservative ideals.”

“Work , whatever it may be , is a noble thing . There can , however , be no doubt the intent of this image was to provoke a laugh in reaction to it from those who have an archaic and counter - productive view of those not like themselves .

The joke is on the joker . I've seen discussion on race relations make huge strides forward since our elected leader became a person of color . Many of the comments here demonstrate why the joke is on the ones who have attempted to get others to join in the hate such humor represents . They been exposed for poor taste at best , and deep seated issues at worst . We have , each of us , differences among us.

For my part , discussions like this one has allowed me to articulate my feeling on those relations , and to be more sensitive to what being non-white must be like . Soon , I will be among the minority , along with all the rest of the white citizens of the U.S.A. , but I feel no fear . As kids we were not taught by my mom to be racist . While my pop was raised to be so , he has had life lessons from his many offspring . For that I am glad , because he is my best friend .

If shining shoes would have fed his kids , he would have done”

juanjo replied on Jan 01, 2010 at 18:38:08

“Shoe shining is an honorable profession and there is nothing wrong with that. I have met men who were black, white and hispanic who shined shoes and took pride in their work. That is not the issue here at all.

There was a time when job opportunities for blacks were limited to low paying service jobs and back breaking, low paying, manual labor and in many parts of this country it is still the only work available now that most high paying manufacturing jobs have gone to other countries.

The photo is certainly an expression of political opinion and any American is entitled to their political opinion and to express it. No matter how questionable in taste. That is not the issue here either.

The point is this was a government employee on the clock using government services to send personal e-mail to others. That is a violation of policy and she should be disciplined for it. That's the issue pure and simple.”

If you keep her, then you are implying that this is acceptable behavior within your organization. You would also open your organization up to possible litigation. As an American African, I am offended no matter what her race or ethnicity is and I would not want to work with her. Therefore, her employer does not have to make reasonable accommodations for her racism and she should be treated as any other employee.
