“Well put. Likewise, as talented as Lady GaGa may be -- and I believe she is -- she too comes across, more often than not, as trying too hard. Trying too hard to... shock, as greats like Bowie once did, authentically and with purpose. In her new video for 'Bad Romance,' a fun, energizing song to be sure, she simply throws in everything, including the kitchen sink, and in so doing loses the red thread that makes a performance or any other statement of art memorable.
They're young, and perhaps they will learn, via experience, that discipline, and knowing when to pull back, goes a long way toward rising to the status of icon.”

“I think Lady Gaga could be a better than she is. I finally decided to listen to some of her music intentionally (I assumed that I'd heard some and just didn't know it) and was surprised at how generic it is. With her look and personality, i was expecting something other than poppy dance crap. That's not to say that I think her music is incompetent, she's very good at what she does, but, meh, what she does isn't anything too groundbreaking or particularly interesting. Then again-- look at how the Flaming Lips started out and look at what they're doing now. I hope her music evolves and her quirkiness isn't a *total* put on.”

I believe in technology and the flow of information it encourages. However, there are bound to be consequences. This girl, like many of her generation, is far too 'in touch' with ideas, and possibly with people, that she ought not to be.”

Drop Among Dems, Liberals Major Factor In Obama Poll Slide

“Republicans would gain seats in the '10 elections regardless of perceptions of Obama's performance to date. Historically, Dems have always lost seats during midterm elections when a Dem holds the Oval Office.
However, I agree wholeheartedly with your comment regarding 'staying on message,' something Dems fail to manage time and again. And yes, midterms may well be a bloodbath that far exceeds historical correlations.
I think we both agree that NOW is absolutely the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to aggressively pass essential reform. The window is closing fast, and the fact that the president and majority Democrats have allowed Conservatives to fill a communications vacuum of their own making is astonishing to say the least.
One would think that after three highly successful election strategies -- via Howard Dean, Rahm Emanuel and Obama himself -- Democrats would have also mastered the imperative of effective framing of signature issues. Shockingly, that is not the case.”

“Bush, or any member of his administration, is hardly made of straw. He, and is lies, are all too real. 'Lying president' indeed...
Lies are not always a mere matter of a few disingenuous or duplicitous sentences spoken by one individual, but rather, as in the case of Bush, can take form as a coordinated, labyrinthine web of deceit that results in great harm to far too many.
Tom Ridge's recent revelation regarding WH pressure to elevate the national terror alert level just days before the '04 election... That's deceit, and there you have a president who is a consummate liar.”

“Agreed.
Hawass squashed one of the most important, potential developments in Egyptology via Robert Bauval's compelling hypothesis, if not theory, that the Great Pyramids represented the three primary stars of Orion, specifically, the 'belt.' Considering the fact that much of ancient Egyptian religious beliefs revolved around the heavens -- as evidenced by stars littering the ceilings of countless tombs, among other things -- Hawass consistently prevents further investigative efforts of Bauval and his associates.
Bauval was instrumental in the exploration of the shafts cutting through the pyramids via a sophisticated, traction-based robot, whose camera revealed bronze doors inconceivably yet incredibly positioned midway along a primary shaft.
Egyptology is rife with politics and fear -- to the detriment of us all.”

“Bauval and Graham Hancock are later-day Von Danikens. Their theories are crap. Hawass gave them the treatment they deserve.
Also, Bauval wasn't involved in the exploration of the shafts and the doors found in two of them do not fit your description, as they were stone with copper fittings (there was no bronze in Egypt in the 4th dynasty). The original robot, Upuaut, was built by Rudolf Gantenbrink. Others, such as the University of Manchester, have followed up on his work.
Additionally, the Great Pyramid refers to just one pyramid, not three. Nor do the Giza Pyramids align with the stars in Orion's belt unless you use, as Hancock & Bauval did, very old, overexposed pictures of them. And invert them. And rotate them. Finally, the "primary stars", whatever that means, in Orion are not in the belt. The two brightest stars, Betelgeuse and Rigel, represent a hand and foot of Orion respectively. The brightest overall object in Orion is the Orion Nebula, which represents the bottom of Orion's scabbard.
Go learn the facts.”
