Divorced and Not Dating

Divorced and Not Dating

Commented Jun 13, 2013 at 13:34:51 in Divorce

“An interesting column, in fact so interesting this is my first actual comment on this site!!!

I’m male and I’ve been single for 18 months. The breakup was rough but I still get on with my ex. At the start of this year I found myself in a situation where I had no job, all my old friends were miles away and on a day to day basis I didn’t see or talk to anyone either in person or via various modern internet ways!

I’m not short of money, I won’t be homeless anytime soon so that’s not a problem. It’s the total restarting of life at 40 that's daunting. I have to begin everything again from scratch. It was frightening at first but now I believe I’ve been given a second chance.

Eventually I will get everything back on track. That includes any relationship but I can honestly say it's the thing I miss the least. I’m not lonely now, I was 4 years ago when everyone said I looked happy. Now that I have found some happiness in life, I have people wondering about my terrible situation!

You can never say never, but I won’t be dating for dating sake. I don’t want to take on baggage that many women carry around with them. (and I know it’s the same for women looking for a man!) I’m better off on my own. As I develop new friendships I find they give me the emotional nourishment that I need.”
