“As one who lives in coal country, you are totally omitting the devestating environmental and health effects of coal mining, especially mtn top removal. Also, in your cost calculations you must include the fiscal costs-not to mention the human costs- of military involvement in oil exploration, production and delivery. We have been spending billions of dollars to protect sources and puppet governments in mid east, africa, south america, etc since the 1940s. Divide that into every gallon refined and used here.”

“I live in Tennessee and I have no doubt that these ignorant rednecks would vote to opt out just to sick it in the eye of a black President. Then you'd see the same thing that's happening in Texas where those Repubs who shunned the stimulous are now begging for it. Sad that the progressives in Texas have to suffer because the majority morons voted these guys into office. I fear same would happen in many red states.

How's about, instead, the President use his party-leader position and power to kick the sh** outta all Dems who buck him on the public option. Ramm could break some kneecaps. I didn't vote for these guys to be nice. I voted for them to do the right thing. Time for them to GET IT DONE.”

Illinois Doesn't Have To Offer 'Choose Life' License Plates: Supreme Court

“I live in Gawd Awful Tennessee where we have those "choose life" plates. My uber Repub bible-thumpin' neighbor decries the socialist president's health care policies yet refuses to buy health insurance, although he makes plenty of money to do so. So he gets his care at the local county hospital emergency room on the taxpayer's dime.

Last week, he renewed the tags on his TWO cars. You guessed it, TWO "choose life" plates at $110 each.

Will some legal group out there PLEASE help us rid our state of these anti-abortion, anti-constitutuonal plates.”

Michelle Duggar Pregnant: How Long Until The Duggars Take Over The World?

Commented Sep 01, 2009 at 14:15:02 in Comedy

“Obviously, these deranged followers of the " Full Quiver " movement are far beyond help. Their family, as so many others in the cult have a dismal future. Their viability depends on both parents living and working well into the 70s and for many couples that does not happens, so the children's care and safety is certainly in doubt.

As I have done every time these morons end up in the news, smarmy criticism comes easily, but today I have dedicated to do something positive. I , and encourage all progressives to the same, have made a donation of $18 in the name of the the Duggar children to my local planned parenthood office. If we could all make such a symbolic pledge, it would help fund the education needed to stop so many unwanted pregnancies and quickly counterbalance the damage that this family has done .

Remember, one dollar per kid and renew each year for 19, 20, until this stops.”

Pete Stark: Co-Ops The Equivalent Of A

Pete Stark: Co-Ops The Equivalent Of A "Medical Unicorn"

Commented Aug 27, 2009 at 15:15:05 in Politics

“I am currently enrolled in one of the heathcare co-ops out there now, Farm Bureau, which contracts with Blue Cross. I am 55 and have had coverage for 10 years with no major claims. My rates have doubled every 4 years on average and I am now paying 22% of my PRETAX income for 80/20 major medical with a midrange deductible and minimal prescription. They can cancel my policy or raise rates to untenable levels and have done so to friends of mine. In short, these co-ops are NOT the answer. I cannot afford 22% of my income going to insurance for healthcare----not TO healthcare , but to gamble on the chance I might need healthcare. Plus I have no protection against being cancelled or driven out by pricing.”

Forsetti replied on Aug 27, 2009 at 15:33:54

“Grrr, thanks for this reality based example of how co-ops work in the real world and not in some GOP fantasy land. They are nothing more than a repackaged private insurance option and should be treated as such.”

AlsoSarah replied on Aug 27, 2009 at 15:26:46

“My Blue Cross/Blue Shield is 80/20 also with a deductible. Sounds like you have the same thing, a private plan.”

Mazza replied on Aug 27, 2009 at 15:26:13

“Co-ops are an absolute red-herring because you can bet your bottom dollar that the industry will lobby to structure them in such a way that the only way they can gain the necessary purchasing base is to contract to existing insurance companies. They would, to all intents and purposes, be new branches of the industry with a pretty label with which they hope they can appease the progressives.”

jtj replied on Jul 20, 2009 at 10:21:55

“Wow, you correctly understand what "cult" means from which many other words derive. The Latin word "cultus" actually means devotion, to "cultiviate" or care for. Our modern day "CULTure" has changed the word to mean a fringe group of religion. The bumper sticker is actually true and demonstrates the person using it has no understanding of language.”
