“The Philippines have a very good education system (for a third world country) that includes years of English education. It's not a surprise to anyone who is familiar with the Philippines that starving children can write or know someone who can write in English. As far as contraceptives, you should take the issue up with the pope, as the Philippines are predominantly Catholic.”
“The police investigated and presented evidence to the DA. When the DA didn't charge, the police told the media that they had given the the DA enough evidence to prosecute. The police did their job, the DA failed to do his.”
“Yeah every time I go to my local public school I see teachers driving Mercedes and BMWs with designer clothes. They are all getting rich and live in mansions. (That's sarcasm for the irony impaired. Most teachers where I live can barely afford a car and can't afford to buy a house in their school district unless their spouse does something more lucrative.)”
“No Child Left Behind should be called No Child Gets Ahead, because it has destroyed all the gifted and talented programs that use to exist and devoted all that money to the lowest performing students. There has to be a balance or we are committing national suicide by not encouraging our best and brightest minds.”

“There are a lot of people only the best and brightest go to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc., and if we look at the alumni of those schools in the national news I swear we are being governed by the terminally ignorant.
I'm with you all the way for doing away with No Millionaire left Behind.”
“You don't have a clue what you are talking about, my 12 year old has been in California schools all her life and has never once received a participation trophy. She has received numerous "Student of the Month" ribbons for Math and English, but as those are only given to one student per month, they can hardly be considered "participation" trophies.
If you have time you should volunteer at a local school. What you are describing does not jibe with my experience of guiding my child through the California public school system. Where I live people pay 100s of thousand of dollars for their house to be in the best PUBLIC school district, hardly likely if they were avoiding public schools.”

“You don't get it....I tried once to volunteer for after school reading classes and was told no, I would be "stand by" because the union had to see if its members would do it first, and they would be paid. So much for volunteering...Things change as population changes and generally not for the better., Look at Beverly Hills High..It was among the top 5 high schools in America not so long ago....There is simply no way I would support public schools after the ipod fiascoi at LAUSD!”
“Have you been to a local school and actually talked to teachers? Everyone one of my kid's teachers that I've talked to cared a great deal about my child's education.
I agree with you about tracking, but George Bush's No Child Left Behind program led to the defunding of all gifted programs in our school district, No Child Left Behind provides resources for under performing students, and sucks up all the resources for the the best and the brightest. NCB should also be known as "No Child Gets Ahead".”

“Gee, Bush gets the blame again! How about parents that act more childish than the students? Are they TOTALLY innocent? If I got in trouble at school, I would get my rump kicked when I got home. Nowadays, if a student gets in trouble, it's because the teacher supposedly wasn't watching and a lawsuit results. I don't claim to know the answers, but let's take a look at how we DID succeed in the past and maybe start applying those principals again.”
“You might want to look at a map and see where San Antonio is before making wild assertions. San Antonio is over 150 miles from the border, calling it shouting distance betrays your lack of education in geography, physics and human anatomy.”
“Either that or change the demeaning logo to feature a caricature of a person from the Indian subcontinent to make it offensive to the correct racial group. Just don't expect to keep getting support from IT when you wear your Cleveland Indians cap.”
“So you are positing that if we changed our tax system from a progressive system of income taxes to a regressive sales tax, people who are living paycheck to paycheck but pay no income tax they have low income, would be better off being forced to pay tax on all the essentials that they have to buy every month to survive?
It doesn't seem like logical thought is one of your strengths...”
“Rigid belief systems are responsible for millions and millions of deaths, both Mao and Stalin had a rigid belief in Communism (You could argue that Stalin didn't believe in anything, as he was just a power hungry bureaucrat, but he used the rigid belief system of Communism to justify what he did.)”

“Atheistm was their "belief. No weaseling out with rhetorical explanations.”
“Maybe because he heads a large organization that historically has persecuted Atheists?
Even though I'm agnostic/borderline atheist I still respect those who make genuine attempt to follow Jesus' example. Unfortunately most Christians don't, but this pope, unlike the last one seems to be a genuine Christian.”
“If the first thing you think about when you hear the word gay is "a man parking his anatomy in another man", you are probably repressing homosexual feelings. If you want to avoid dealing with those repressed feelings you should avoid wrestling altogether as it is a very homo-erotic sport.”
“She is also a huge supporter/dependent (thanks to her husband) of the military industrial complex. We desperately need a credible progressive to run against her and get her out of office. DiFi is the one Democrat on my ballot I have never voted for and never will.”
