Network TV is so yesterday and like many American corporations plans to modernize and forward think are not profitable so they continue to be left behind making yesterday's profits or lack thereof. How To 'Fix' The Sunday Morning Shows

How To 'Fix' The Sunday Morning Shows

Commented Dec 30, 2009 at 06:44:22 in Media

“Want to fix Sunday morning news shows:
1. Stop pushing their network corporate political agenda.
2. Get new, young fresh show hosts.
3. Invite guests who really have have something new to say and who will actually answer the question.
4. Diversify panels with new, young fresh pundits.
5. Try something new like inviting real, unpolished citizens on-air to voice their side/opinion.
If this can't be accomplished, then show cartoons instead! Happy New Year!!”

AlphaDoc replied on Dec 30, 2009 at 07:37:53

“Agreed, GunnyJ. MTP is practically a cartoon show now. You'd think the brass @ NBC would realize there's a reason why their ratings skyrocket when Rachel Maddow is a guest on the panel. Get rid of Gregory and bring in Maddow, and I for one will go back to watching.”

“Better still, move your money to a Credit Union. Less hassle and less to no fees. Banks make money from FEES and reinvesting/loaning your money (to foreign interests), more and more on speculative ideas while not loaning anything back to you/community. Credit unions work to serve it's members...period! Try it, you will like it :-)”

whiskyjack replied on Dec 30, 2009 at 07:17:31

“True! Credit Union is DEFINATELY the way to go. I get paid, like most people around the 1st and the 15th of every month. I use direct deposit. I also know that the bank I used to use got my paycheck 3 days before it was put into my account. So, what happened in those 3 days? It earned interest for the bank for those 3 days. When you think about it, how many people do you know have direct deposit from their employer? Thats a lot of interest. The credit union I use, credit my account as soon as they recieve my paycheck, so I get paid 3 days early. The only fees I pay are ATM fees. All my bills are paid montly automaticly, which is also free. I also have the option of joining a mutual fund, or other savings plan, at no extra cost. What bank can do that? My old bank (National City) had so many fees it was rediculous. I was paying almost 40 dollars a month just to maintain a checking account! Paying money to use my own money. So yes, small banks a good, however, for me and my family credit unions are it for now on.”

This HAS GOT TO STOP!! Nominations being held only because "they can"? This process is ridiculous folks....we have to make them pay at the polls in 2010!!”

Tommygun264 replied on Dec 29, 2009 at 07:30:01

“The best way to make either party "pay at the polls" is during the primaries - donate to, volunteer and vote for candidates who represent your values. Even if the incumbent candidate ends of holding on to their party's nomination, they will have at least been given the right message. If you are angry with the Democratic incumbents for not being as liberal and progressive as they promised, support primary challengers who are more liberal and progressive. Waiting until the general election and voting Repiglican because the Democratic incumbent let you down is counter productive. If you succeed in electing the Repiglican, things will only get worse as they continue the same old failed policies that drug this nation down in the first place; and if the Democratic incumbent succeeds in holding on to their seat, they will look at the poll results and think the voters want them to move even more to the right. Support REAL liberals. Don't reward the Repiglicans in order to punish the Democratic incumbents.”

“I'm with you! Everybody wants a badge because they volunteered, campaigned and voted for President Obama....but nobody shows when really needed. Then they cry foul when there is no PO? What did they expect..... Your comment is spot on!!”

Samalabear replied on Dec 22, 2009 at 10:07:16

“On this very site there was an Open Invitation from Wendell Potter for Obama and Congress to visit in August the Remote Area Access clinics in LA. Obama went to a town hall meeting a couple of states over and then went for photo ops in the State Parks -- couldn't be bothered.

Hey, GunnyJ, where were you? How many petitions did you sign? How many protests for the public option did you go to? Did you do any research behind that headline: "Obama's Blue Army Fails to Show Up"? Glen Ford and Bruce Dixon were explaining it quite clearly on Black Agenda Report all summer. Obama spent the whole summer letting pitbull Rahm disparage his progressive supporters.

Rahm just said a few days ago in an article here that the left doesn't matter -- members of Obama's base don't matter!!”

Samalabear replied on Dec 22, 2009 at 09:59:54

“Pure BS. People from the beginning were trying to get their voices heard. They were arrested in Congress, shut out of Obama's staged town halls, Obama refused to meet with groups like PNHP, Mad as Hell Doctors, not once did he show up to support people rallying for a strong PO, if not Medicare for All. Bernie Sanders was there, Dennis Kucinich was there. Obama -- nowhere to be seen. The MSM was not there.

Where were the Obama hero-worshipers. I have never seen any of them out in the street protesting.

Rahm and Obama from July were pushing back against the progressives, telling them to basically cease and desist -- don't push back against the Blue Dogs, who did not want a PO. Why should these people work on behalf of Obama when he and his cronies were doing everything to shut them up?”

BKFactor replied on Dec 22, 2009 at 08:24:00

“Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!

When the politicians returned from recess, they found out a whole lot of people wanted the public option. It was at that point that more focus was placed on the public option. If you remember, media was astonished that the public option wasn't dead ... that the push for the PO was stronger than ever.

Various politicians, etc. want you to believe that progressives were not out there fighting the good fight. There were rallies across the nation for the public option.... few in media chose to cover it (not sensational enough). Media preferred to cover the "down and dirty". Media preferred to cover the opposition, and so did.”

“I may have to stop reading the HP because 80% of the posts are negative. I'm self-motivated, a glass half-full person, but I'm growing tired of the whining! Blaming the President for everything that does not have your desired outcome. A powerful insurance lobby from Nebraska and Connecticut, Blue dogs and a Republican party poised to support nothing except the wars they started, just to name a few things... Cabinet nominations held up on purpose and a level of Presidential rudeness without penalty I've never seen before... Yet many cry foul that nothing is being done is completely unrealistic. You need to get a grip and stop being fair weather friends and just join the Republican party and get it over with... This fight was billed as tough from the beginning. If you're not tough enough then get off the bus!!”

boxman15 replied on Dec 22, 2009 at 09:47:52

“I'm getting sick of it, too. I'm (very) disappointed by the bill, but people are getting so hyperbolic. As much as they complain about Republicans and Teabaggers using fear and hype to get their point across, you'd think they would learn a thing or two.

I critcize this bill for what it is, but I don't ignore the bright spots in the bill. Too many on this site say:

No PO?!?!? Then there's now reform at all!!!

There is plenty of good in this bill, albeit not as much as I, and many others, would've liked.”

cyndeewi replied on Dec 22, 2009 at 08:52:10

“I agree. I have never met a more whinning group of people. President Obama has done his best, it is very hard to make changes to this corporate economy. It use to be all about them. It is slowly changing.”

BKFactor replied on Dec 22, 2009 at 07:40:30

“I've got to add one more thing. A lot of progressives have been very upset over the last week because they learned the "fix was in" on healthcare from the very start. That "fix" was orchestrated by the White House. The "fix" was also in on financial reform. These early on concessions and backroom deals have tainted almost everything the president has supposedly tried to do.

If someone lies to me, I won't respect them or trust them. They're going to have to work on regaining my trust. That, perhaps, may take a considerably long time.

Just a little eye opener: http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/12182009/watch.html

BKFactor replied on Dec 22, 2009 at 07:22:20

“I don't have a problem supporting someone who is telling the whole truth even if it's dire news.

I have a problem with politicians who don't tell the whole truth and use "smoke and mirrors". According to your statements, we should be Pollyanna's. Well, if you constantly say "things are not so bad", you never fix what is bad ... and things could quite possibly get worse.

Applying a "glass half-full approach is good for an individual ... it's not good for the country.”

“What a bunch a sad sacks! I guess I should get used to these type of responses from those with sad perceptions, those who think the President rides in on a white horse and saves the day, no House of Representatives, no Senate and no Lobbyist to get in the way... Obama will save the day! Here's another good one, if those pesky Congresspeople and Senators don't do what I want I'll simply relinquish them of their powers and get it done with somebody else.
Republicans get things done because they stick together. With them its party first (although the people should always be first). We Democrats have no such loyalties and we burn ourselves time and time again. Ask yourself, how many Democratic Presidents have served two terms in the last 50 years? Is it really beacuse they were bad Presidents or is it beacuse Democrats always get swayed by the unified Republican message. The same thing is happening now and will continue until Democrats wake up. We need to stand behind the President and give him the support he needs in the Congress and Senate with elected Democrats who can stand united and pass a meaningful Democratic agenda. What the devil is bluedog Democrat? By the way #1-The President never campaigned on PO or single payer #2 The bill will get better in commitee.”
